Ex-Blackburn Rovers man seals fourth promotion with dramatic finale
Former Blackburn Rovers midfielder, Corry Evans, celebrated his fourth career promotion after helping Oldham Athletic back into The Football League.
The Latics were promoted at Wembley on Sunday after beating Southend United 3-2 in a dramatic National League play-off final. Micky Mellon's side had trailed twice but scored two goals in as many minutes in the second half of extra time to snatch victory.

Evans played his role in earning the promotion after joining Oldham on a short-term deal until the end of this season in January. He has made 10 appearances for Oldham, who finished fifth in the National League and had to beat FC Halifax, York City and Southend to book a spot in League Two.

The 34-year-old started each of the three play-off clashes and lasted 101 minutes in Sunday's showpiece event. Victory means Oldham will be back in the Football League after two seasons in the fifth tier.
Sunday marked a fourth promotion of Evans' career, including 2017/18's League One promotion at Ewood Park. He also helped Sunderland out of the third-tier and won promotion during his spell at Hull City with Oldham rounding off an impressive feat.
Evans joined Sunderland from Rovers in 2021, having made over 200 appearances in a seven-year stint.

Next Middlesbrough Odds & Betting: Edwards Wanted at The Riverside
Rob Edwards is the favourite to take over the Middlesbrough job (Bradley Collyer/PA Wire) It's not really a surprise that Middlesbrough are looking for a new manager, but what is surprising is the timing of the decision to sack Michael Carrick. It's nearly five weeks since Boro finished 10th in the Championship, four points off the play-off positions, confirming the Teessiders to a ninth successive season in the second tier. Advertisement Carrick guided Boro to the play-offs in his first season but has missed out in the last two seasons and after finishing with fewer points than the previous campaign, coupled with having to watch their local rivals, Sunderland, get promoted, the decision was made to remove the ex-Manchester United and Tottenham midfielder. Assistants Jonathan Woodgate and Graeme Carrick have also left the club, so it is a chance for a clean sweep at the Riverside. Next Middlesbrough Manager Odds Manager Odds Betting site Rob Edwards 7/4 William Hill Steve Cooper 5/2 BetVictor Sean Dyche 3/1 Parimatch Jan Dahl Tomasson 4/1 BetVictor Danny Rohl 5/1 BetVictor Roger Schmidt 8/1 talkSPORT BET Tried and Tested Promotion Winners Wanted Steve Cooper was the initial favourite installed by betting sites, but he's already been ousted as attentions turn to former Luton boss Rob Edwards. Advertisement He has been out of work since he was sacked by the Hatters in January with the side just two points above the Championship relegation zone, but that shouldn't overshadow the amazing job he did in taking them up to the Premier League. He guided the side to a play-off final win over Coventry City in May 2023 to see them back in the top-flight for the first time in 30 years, and Middlesbrough would be love to be celebrating that this time next year. Edwards is 7/4 to be the next Middlesbrough manager, but if they do want him then they may face competition with Bristol City also reportedly interested. Edwards has also been installed as the even-money favourite to be the Robins boss. Cooper is next on the list in the next Middlesbrough manager betting market and reports in the north-east suggest he's been shortlisted for an interview. Advertisement He is another manager who has achieved promotion from the Championship, taking Nottingham Forest up in May 2022. He has been out of work since leaving Leicester in November, but he has admitted he is ready to return to management, albeit with a preference to work abroad. Some betting sites have cut Sean Dyche's odds to 3/1, but there's been no mention of the ex-Everton boss being in the frame in local reporting, despite the success he enjoyed at this level as Burnley manager. Another name linked is Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl, who was the favourite for the Southampton job before Will Still was named manager last month. He guided Wednesday to 12th in the league last season and with everything currently going on at the club, who have been charged with multiple breaches of EFL regulations relating to unpaid wages, he might be looking for an escape route. Advertisement Rohl is also on the shortlist to be the next Leicester City boss, according to reports, and is as short as 1/2 for that position on certain betting apps. Boro Could Consider Challinor Of those contenders with double-figure prices, talk of a move for 10/1 shot Robbie Keane has been dismissed, but there's a possibility the Tessiders talk to ex-Boro midfielder Gary O'Neil, who is out of work after leaving Wolves last season and is a 16/1 chance. A new name on the list is Stockport manager Dave Challinor, who has done an outstanding job with the League One side, taking them from the National League up to League One in three seasons. The Hatters reached the League One play-offs last season before they were beaten in the semi-finals by Leyton Orient. Advertisement He has also achieved promotion from the National League North with Fylde and promotion back to the EFL with Hartlepool United so he has had success wherever he has been. Football betting sites are offering 20/1 on him to make the move to the Riverside Stadium but it is nice to see the former Tranmere Rovers and Stockport defender finally getting some recognition. Spurs move to sound out Thomas Frank as they weigh up Postecoglou's future
Tottenham have met with intermediaries to discuss a potential move for Brentford's Thomas Frank. Spurs have been considering whether to persist with their manager, Ange Postecoglou, since the end of the season and his future remains in doubt. Postecoglou brought glory to the club when he ended a 17-year trophy drought by overseeing a win over Manchester United in the Europa League final. The victory transformed the mood in and around Spurs, with some fans feeling he deserves the chance to carry on. Advertisement The chair, Daniel Levy, cannot easily overlook the disastrous Premier League campaign in which the team finished 17th with 38 points. Postecoglou admitted after the last match against Brighton on 25 May that he was in the dark over his future and the silence since then has not boded well. Spurs are giving serious thought to Frank, having been impressed with his stellar work at Brentford. The Dane joined them in October 2018 when they were in the Championship and got them promoted via the playoffs in 2020-21. He has established them in the top-flight; they finished this past season 10th with 56 points. Brentford have thought that Frank will stay with them for another season and there would be obstacles for Spurs to overcome, including paying to acquire him. They would also have to pay off Postecoglou, who has two years on his contract.

Next Bristol City Manager Odds & Betting: Wellens & Edwards on Robins Radar
Bristol City are on the hunt for a new manager after Liam Manning left the club to become the new boss of Norwich City in the last week, with the 39-year-old signing a four year contract at Carrow Road. Manning had taken over at Ashton Gate in November 2023 and guided the Robins into this season's Championship play-offs, finishing sixth in the regular season before a disappointing 6-0 aggregate loss to Sheffield United in the semi-finals. Advertisement Norwich were willing to pay the Robins a sum to secure Mannings services after their own 13th-placed finish last season, but Bristol fans will be wondering where that leaves them ahead of the 2025/26 season starting in August. The City board will be eager to secure a new manager as soon as possible with pre-season preparations set to get underway later this month, so we've taken a look at the leading contenders on betting sites to take over the mantle at Ashton Gate. Next Bristol City Manager Odds Ex-Premier League Bosses in The Race Former Luton Town manager Rob Edwards is the current joint-favourite to take over at Ashton Gate, with the 42-year-old having been sacked in January after a run of defeats in the Championship. Advertisement Though the Hatters ended up getting relegated, Edwards' reputation is still solid having guided Luton to an unlikely promotion to the Premier League in 2023 and he's currently a coach in demand with bookmakers making him the favourite in the next Middlesbrough manager odds betting. Edwards would likely be more favoured than Richie Wellens, who is also currently 1/1 on football betting sites to take the Bristol job. Wellens took Leyton Orient to the League 1 play-off final this season, though the defeat to Charlton coupled with the loss of several key players could mean that he looks to depart Brisbane Road. Ex-Aston Villa and Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is next on the list at odds of 5/1, with the former Liverpool midfielder having left Saudi side Al-Ettifaq in January. Advertisement Gerrard won the Scottish title with Rangers in 2021, but has seen little success since then and left Villa when they were near the relegation zone in October 2022. The Englishman is among four former Premier League bosses who are supposedly in the running, with ex-Wolves manager Gary O'Neil at 20/1 and former Leicester and Nottingham Forest boss Steve Cooper offered at 16/1. Lower League Managers Ready to Step up? Several managers from teams and divisions below Bristol City are in the running for the Ashton Gate hotseat, led by Wellens. Former Notts County and Swansea City boss Luke Williams has been touted at 8/1, though his name has appeared infrequently in local press and he has been out of work since leaving the Swans in February. Advertisement Stockport manager Dave Challinor is another 8/1 candidate as it stands, with the 49-year-old leading his side to the League One play-offs last season, having taken them from non-league football in three seasons. Within the Championship, John Mousinho is another name that has popped up, with the 39-year-old Englishman offered at 12/1 on some betting apps having attracted interest after managing to keep Portsmouth in the division after their promotion the season beforehand. Outside bets It is seen as unlikely that either O'Neil or Cooper join the Robins, with the latter having expressed an interest in working abroad and O'Neil out of work since leaving Wolves in December. Advertisement Marti Cifuentes and Ruben Selles are the two bosses with Championship experience who are seen as outside shouts for the job, with the former priced at 16/1 and Selles at 20/1. Cifuentes is currently on gardening leave after guiding QPR to 15th last season, and while he was supposedly on the shortlist to take over as West From manager, former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason has now taken over at the Hawthorns. As for Selles, he presumably did not instil much confidence in prospective suitors when he was sacked by Hull having almost fallen to relegation. That leaves one other candidate at 20/1 – former Norwich caretaker boss Jack Wilshere. The ex-England and Arsenal midfielder took charge of the Canaries for the final matches of the season but left the club after being informed that he wasn't being considered for the full-time job, and despite plenty of time as an assistant, it may be seen as too much of a jump to give someone so inexperienced a top role at this stage in his career.
