New Delhi: In three separate operations, Delhi Police seized drugs, including pharmaceutical substances, worth over Rs 5 crore and arrested 10 people.
In the first case, narcotics, including opium, charas and heroin worth approximately Rs 5 crore in the international market, were smuggled from Nepal and Manipur.
According to police, on April 15, 52-year-old Jasmer Singh was apprehended for allegedly trafficking opium and charas from Nepal to Delhi and the rest of National Capital Region. Based on a tip-off, officers had set a trap in Burari, where Singh was expected to deliver a large consignment in a car. He was caught during the operation.
Upon inspecting the vehicle, police discovered 5.12kg opium concealed in hidden compartments inside the petrol tank and 3.54kg high-quality charas stashed in cavities in the roof.
Based on Singh's disclosure, three of his accomplices were arrested. From their possession, the authorities recovered an additional 1.88kg opium. They were identified as Raj Kumar (47), Kala (50), and Sanjay Rawat (43).
The members of this international drug syndicate were involved in trafficking charas and opium from Nepal into Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and NCR. They often posed as tourists or cloth merchants during their visits to Nepal, where they sourced the narcotics from local suppliers.

The arrests were made by a team of the special cell. The same team also nabbed one Mohan Lal during another operation.
In the third operation by the crime branch, five men involved in the illegal supply of pharmaceutical drugs in Delhi—particularly around North Campus of Delhi University—were arrested. They were distributing these drugs without any bills or prescriptions. Police recovered 2,360 Tramadol capsules and 135 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup from their possession.
The seized drugs are valued at over Rs 1 lakh in the international market.
One of the arrested, Manish Bhatle, was allegedly supplying these substances in Delhi. He was unable to produce any bill or prescription, or provide a satisfactory explanation for the recovered items. Bhatle told police that he obtained the drugs from his maternal uncle, Devender, who owned a medical shop in Malkaganj.
Devender was arrested, too, following a search conducted at his shop and residence, located in the same building, though no drugs were found at either location.
He later admitted to sourcing Tramadol tablets from a person named Gunnu and the codeine-based syrups from another person called Surender.
Gunnu, identified as a mediator in the illicit supply chain, was arrested and confessed to procuring the capsules from Ankit Gupta, the owner of another medical store. Gupta was also taken into custody. Subsequently, the crime branch team arrested Kapil (28), a medical representative, who used his professional connections to facilitate the illegal procurement of these drugs.

"RCB Should Be Sued": India World Cup Winner Slams Bengaluru Stampede Mess, Namedrops Virat Kohli

Former Indian cricketer Madan Lal has strongly criticized the poor planning and crowd management during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) IPL victory celebrations at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a stampede claimed the lives of at least 11 fans and injured several others. After RCB's long-awaited first IPL title win on June 3 in Ahmedabad, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) had organised a felicitation ceremony in Bengaluru on Wednesday. Thousands of fans gathered outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium, hoping to catch a glimpse of their heroes. However, as the crowd swelled, the situation became unmanageable. Police resorted to a lathi-charge to control the crowd, leading to panic and chaos. Seven people were killed in the resulting stampede, while several others were rushed to Bowring Hospital and Vydehi Superspeciality Hospital for treatment. "People will not forget this —or Virat Kohli. While people were dying outside, there was a celebration inside. It's truly shocking and disheartening. The families of the dead should consider suing RCB and the state government for ₹100 crore for this tragic is also shirking responsibility," former Indian cricketer Madan Lal told IANS. Earlier in the day, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah addressed the media after the incident and announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the family of the dead. Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar defended the arrangements, stating, 'We had arranged for 5,000 police personnel. We couldn't use force on such a young, vibrant crowd.' The authorities have confirmed that the bodies of two persons are at Bowring Hospital and that of four others at Vaidehi Hospital. Six people are being treated in the ICU of the Vaidehi Hospital and three are admitted to the ICU. The government of Karnataka had earlier cancelled the victory parade from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Cricket Stadium, citing security reasons.

'It's shameful Bengaluru couldn't manage 1km victory parade': RCB gave city pride but poor planning brought it shame

BENGALURU: A perfect storm of giddy, overenthusiastic fans, poor planning by officials, bad stadium management, stretched police force, shortage of time, clueless event management and lack of communication between stakeholders resulted in the tragic and totally avoidable, deaths of 11 RCB fans and left 75 injured. At the crack of dawn, RCB lit up social media with the big news: The champions were flying home with the coveted IPL trophy and would celebrate with a grand victory parade in Bengaluru. It was an announcement that caught the cops unawares as they had no communication about it. But it sent the already-electrified fanbase into overdrive. Then came the colossal collective failure: Cops failed to act swiftly and draw up crowd-control plans. Politicians turned the celebration into a photo-op frenzy, brushing aside warnings in their race to bask in reflected glory. Many brought their families to Vidhana Soudha to pose with the cricketers. "RCB gave the city a reason to celebrate. But police and netas turned that joy into grief with their sheer incompetence. It's shameful that Bengaluru couldn't manage a 1km victory parade," said the grieving brother of one of the victims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo Even senior bureaucrats admitted that the lives could have been saved with proper planning and coordination. "The RCB management did not consult us before announcing a victory parade. We would not have allowed it given the crazy celebrations that unfolded on the streets on Tuesday night. But the political bosses were in no mood to listen, they wanted us to go ahead with bandobust," a senior police officer said. Those who fell were trampled Till mid-afternoon, there was no clarity whether there was a parade and where the events would be held. Senior cops were informed only around 2pm to be at the stadium and the assembly. By which time, the crowds had already gathered. At the cricket stadium, the scenes from early afternoon held bad portents. Fans had started flocking to the gates by noon and it was apparent to any bystander that things would get of control soon. TOI reporters, who could not even get in, found that most gates stayed shut and false rumours of gate numbers led to a huge rush. Naturally, barricades collapsed, metal grills broke down and those who fell — mostly young people and women — were unable to get up and got crushed and trampled.

‘No date for six months': Ashok Gehlot slams BJP govt over delay in Kanhaiya Lal beheading case

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has criticised the Bhajan Lal Sharma government over the delay in courts in the 2022 beheading of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal Teli. In a post on X, Gehlot, who was the Rajasthan chief minister at the time of the incident, said that: 'BJP did a lot of politics on the murder of Shri Kanhaiya Lal of Udaipur and made it the main issue of Rajasthan elections. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) took over the case on the very night of the incident. The NIA, an agency under the BJP government at the centre, has this case but even after three years of trial, the culprits have not been punished in a case of such a clear nature'. On June 28, 2022, two people — Mohammad Riyaz and Ghouse Mohammad — had posed as customers and hacked to death Kanhaiya Lal Teli at his shop in Udaipur, over a post shared by him on social media in support of suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. The BJP leader had made comments about the Prophet during a live television debate. 'The family members of Shri Kanhaiyalal have told that this case is not being run on fast track. This case is pending in NIA court, Jaipur. The additional charge of NIA court was with the judge of CBI court who has been transferred due to which the case is not being heard. There has been no date in the case for the last six months,' Gehlot said. 'Before this, the statements of witnesses were going on but the statements of the three main witnesses have not been recorded yet. Of the accused arrested in this case, two have been granted bail so far,' Gehlot said, referring to Mohammed Javed and Farhad Mohammad Sheikh alias Babla. This month will mark three years since the murder, he wrote. 'Rajasthan police arrested the criminals in just 4 hours. Shri Kanhaiya Lal's family was given Rs 50 lakh as compensation and his two sons were given government jobs. But BJP spread a rumour among the public that only Rs 5 lakh was given as compensation and played politics of five lakhs and fifty lakhs,' Gehlot said. Had the investigation been with the Rajasthan Police and not been taken over by the NIA, 'they probably would have been sentenced during our government's tenure itself but it seems that BJP is only doing politics on this case', he said. 'It does not seem that they have any intention of providing justice to the victims,' the former CM said. However, NIA lawyer Sneh Deep told The Indian Express that 'the delay is on the part of the accused'. He said that the accused have been seeking date after date on various grounds, including the demise of an advocate, seeking time for a new one, and dissatisfaction with the one provided to them. 'The advocate of one of the accused comes from Udaipur. He says that he can't come daily so he needs time between hearings. The NIA wants day-to-day hearing in the case and has filed an application for the same,' he said. In November last year, the Supreme Court had issued notices to the NIA and Mohammed Javed on a petition filed by Teli's son Yash Teli against Javed's bail, given in September, by the Rajasthan High Court. While Javed was accused of conducting a recce, the high court had said that 'prima facie, there is not enough evidence to suggest that the appellant conspired with Riyaz Attari or that the appellant knew Riyaz was going to commit the offence of murder.' Earlier, Farhad Mohammad Sheikh alias Babla, 31 at the time of his arrest in July 2022, was granted bail in September 2023. At least 9 persons were arrested by the state and central agencies in the case.
