Letran ousts Arellano to book finals rematch vs. four-peat seeking Benilde

Colegio de San Juan de Letran made sure it ends today, pulling off a masterful 30-28, 25-12, 25-21 win against Arellano University to enter the finals of NCAA Season 100 women's volleyball on Tuesday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre.
The win sent the Lady Knights to their second-straight finals appearance, arranging a championship showdown with three-time defending champion De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

Arellano sweeps Mapua, sets up finals duel vs Letran in NCAA men's volleyball
NCAA Arellano University swept Mapua University, 25-20, 25-15, 25-15, in the do-or-die match of the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball Final Four on Friday to advance to the finals. The Chiefs are returning to the finals after seven years and will face Colegio de San Juan de Letran for the title. Arellano also erased a twice-to-beat disadvantage against no. 2 team Mapua. The Chiefs led 7-4 in the third set before they made a 11-3 run to claim an 18-7 lead. Eventually, Arellano led 23-9 before Mapua made a 5-0 run and tried to trim the deficit. Penny Curamen then put Arellano at match point before Adi Villados' attack went out in the following rally as Mapua salvaged one. Jayvee Valenzuela's service error, however, handed the victory to Arellano. "Pinag-usapan namin na one point at a time lang, kung ano ang usual na ginagawa namin sa training, gawin lang namin," Arellano head coach Bryan Vitug said. AC Guinto led Arellano with 15 points, while Penny Curamen added 12 points. Jiwen Sinuto and Carl Berdal had nine points each, while Villados stood out as he made 20 out of Arellano's 20 excellent sets. Arjay Ramos was the only double-digit scorer for Mapua with 10 points, with Barbie San Andres limited to just six points. Mapua will face Benilde in the battle for third. NCAA Colegio de San Juan de Letran and Arellano University aim to topple twice-to-beat teams De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and Mapua University for tickets to the NCAA Season 100 men's volleyball finals. Letran and Benilde will face off on Friday at 12:00 p.m., while Arellano and Mapua will battle at 2:30 p.m. at the Filoil Centre in San Juan. Last Sunday, the Knights swept the top-seeded Blazers, 25-17, 25-23, 25-23, with Bembem Bautista and Vince Himzon leading no. 4 team Letran. Letran head coach Bryan Esquibel said they will still rely on defense as they take on the Blazers anew. "Same pa rin ang magiging paghahanda natin, kailangan pa nating pagpursigihan ang net blocking and floor defense kasi doon manggagaling ang magandang atake and ma-minimize natin ang error." Esquibel said. Bautista had 17 points from 15 attacks and two blocks, while Himzon had 12 points. Benilde's top scorer Rocky Roy Motol, meanwhile, was limited to eight points then with John Austero posting a team-high 11 points. The third-seeded Chiefs, meanwhile, hope to return to the Finals for the first time since 2018. "Ang usapan namin sa training, ang mindset namin is one point at a time lang muna. Kung pupuntos kami, dapat trabahuhin namin," Arellano head coach Brian Vitug said. Before making a Finals return, the Chiefs need to beat the no. 2 team Cardinals first. In their Final Four match last Tuesday, Arellano defeated Mapua, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17, 25-13. AC Guinto had 19 points, while Carl Berdal had 13 points in the crucial match. Jiwen Sinuto and Jake Pangilinan also came to the rescue for the Chiefs with 11 points apiece as Adrian Villados made all of Arellano's 19 excellent sets. Letran's Vince Himzon played with injured finger in Final Four match vs. Mapua
By JUSTIN KENNETH CARANDANG,GMA Integrated News Not even injury could keep Colegio de San Juan de Letran's Vince Himzon from giving his all in their Final Four match against De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde. Prior to the Knights' semis match against the Blazers, Himzon posted a photo of his finger wrapped with bandage as he was nursing an injury. "Medyo masakit pa po," Himzon told GMA Integrated News after their four-set win against the top-seeded Benilde. [It's still hurts a little.] The injury, however, did not deter him in this game. Himzon had 12 points, the second highest output for the team in terms of scoring following Bembem Bautista's 17 points. It was a good thing that he pushed through despite the pain he was experiencing then. "Nag-chat sa akin [si coach] sabi kumusta 'yung daliri mo? Sabi niya, ire-reserve niya ako sa Linggo. Sabi ko, 'di puwede coach, ilalaban ko na 'to. Nandito na eh," he said. [Coach said to me in a chat, how's your finger? He said he would reserve me for Sunday. I said, we can't, Coach, I'll fight through this. We're already here.] Himzon then vowed to give their all as they aim to reach the finals and topple the powerhouse from Taft Avenue. "Mas maganda pa po ang igagalaw namin sa Friday, paghahandaan po ulit namin and magtutulong-tulong kami and hahabaan namin ang pasensya namin sa isa't isa kasi doon kami mahina," he added.
