Loh Siew Hong's ex-husband dies amid custody battle and domestic violence trial
PETALING JAYA, June 10 — Muhammad Nagahswaran Muniandy, the former husband of Loh Siew Hong, has died at the age of 38, according to Free Malaysia Today (FMT).
Nagahswaran's death was confirmed by Loh's lawyer, Shamsher Singh Thind. He had been embroiled in legal battles with Loh over custody of their three children and allegations of domestic violence.
The custody dispute began in 2020 when Nagahswaran, a Muslim convert, unilaterally took the children to Perlis and converted them to Islam.
FMT reported that court orders had already granted custody to Loh, starting with an interim order in December 2019 and progressing to full custody by March 2021.
Their divorce was finalised in September 2021.
Loh, who left Nagahswaran in 2019 citing domestic abuse, sought a habeas corpus order to reunite with her children in early 2022.
The High Court ruled in her favour, allowing her to regain custody. The children were previously placed in the care of preacher Nazirah Nanthakumari Abdullah.
In April 2024, the Federal Court ruled that both parents must consent to a child's conversion, affirming that Loh's children remained Hindus.
An appeal by the Perlis government to reinstate their Muslim status was dismissed this April, according to FMT.
Nagahswaran had a criminal record, including serving time in Kelantan prison for a drug-related offence, which was cited by Loh during the custody battle.
Last year, Nagahswaran was charged at the Sungai Petani sessions court for allegedly causing grievous hurt to Loh in 2019.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on RM10,000 bail, with the trial set to begin this September.

Early investigations suggest that the suspect was likely emotionally distressed due to pressure to excel academically. 'Perhaps because the mother was a teacher, she wanted her children to achieve excellent results. The suspect was due to sit for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination this year. 'He was likely often scolded and told to study harder. Neighbours reported frequently hearing arguments from the house,' Dzulkhairi told a press conference at the Melaka police headquarters. According to Dzulkhairi, the suspect is believed to have attacked his mother while she was in her bedroom. The older brother is said to have rushed to her aid, leading to a struggle that resulted in both victims being fatally stabbed. 'The suspect then allegedly ordered his younger brother to leave the house, but the boy refused. The suspect then attempted to stab him as well. 'Although seriously wounded, the younger sibling managed to escape and was later rescued,' Dzulkhairi said. He said the suspect had attempted to dispose of evidence by discarding his clothes in nearby bushes. A folding knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was found in the suspect's school bag in the garage. The suspect's younger brother has been sent to Hospital Melaka for treatment. The bodies of the suspect's mother and older brother have been sent to the forensics department of the same hospital for a post-mortem.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : A 34-year-old lorry driver died after an accident involving three heavy vehicles on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) near Yong Peng, Batu Pahat, in Johor this morning. The three vehicles were an eight-tonne lorry, a tanker lorry and a trailer lorry, The Star reported. 'Following the impact, the driver of the trailer lorry was injured and remained trapped in the vehicle,' Yong Peng fire and rescue department operations commander Hafiz Othman was quoted as saying. He said the rescue teams deployed specialised equipment to extricate the injured victim but the driver was later pronounced dead by an officer from the health ministry. According to Hafiz, the other two drivers, aged 37 and 42, did not suffer any injuries. The incident comes just days after 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students died in a horrific crash in Gerik, Perak, involving a chartered bus. According to police, the bus overturned after it hit a Perodua Alza. The crash also left 33 people injured, including the bus driver, his attendant and the four passengers in the Alza.

MACC nabs 4 over alleged misappropriation of NGO funds
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission seized over RM5.9 million in assets, land, and cash in bank accounts, according to a source. KUALA LUMPUR : The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested four individuals, including three committee members of a non-governmental organisation (NGO), on suspicion of conspiring to misappropriate funds belonging to the NGO where they work. According to a source, the suspects – two men and two women in their 30s – were arrested between 4pm and 7pm yesterday when they came to give their statements at the MACC office in Melaka. 'Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were believed to have committed the offence between 2015 and 2025. They are suspected of conspiring with the NGO chairman, who is alleged to have abused power and misappropriated funds for personal gain,' the source said. Following the arrests, the MACC seized RM900,000 in cash, jewellery, nine plots of land located in Melaka, Penang and Selangor, and four residential units in Melaka. MACC said 14 bank accounts – eight belonging to individuals and six to companies – with a total balance of about RM5 million were also frozen. Magistrate Nur Afiqah Radhiah Zainurin today granted a remand order until next Tuesday for all four suspects, following an application made by the MACC at the Melaka magistrates' court. Meanwhile, Selangor MACC director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin@Hamim, when contacted, confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
