FAMILIES, parents, friends and residents have pulled together to help clear the damage caused by a burst water pipe at Care Bears Wonderland in Pinetown.
Kristin Smith from the school said she received a call at about 04:00 saying the school is flooded.
'I called my mom and said we need to get to the school.

'We got there only to see the devastation that amounts to 20 times worse than the 2022 floods.'
The flooding was caused by a huge pipe that burst in Josiah Gumede Road in the early hours of Sunday morning.
'The water diverted to Leeds Crescent and came down to our school and a few neighbouring houses.'
Smith said the force of the water was undescribable.
'It was just loads, loads and loads of water. Every single classroom and playgrounds have been affected,' said Smith, adding that only the swimming pool was not affected.
'Walls are broken, everything is submerged under the water, and looking at the damage, the school will be closed for the next few days,' said a sad Smith.
Smith estimated that it will cost close to R1m to fix the damage.
The school, which looks after 170 children, will be in need of extra hands and other necessities for the next few days. Anyone who wishes to assist can call 083 714 0723.

Avril Street gets green light for rehabilitation

Nine years after Avril Street was washed away during heavy rainfall and flooding, the street is up for rehabilitation. This good news was shared by Ward 20's councillor, Clr Maureen Scheepers. A community liaison officer was elected and the project is officially underway. It is projected that the project that includes the rehabilitation of the whole road and an infrastructure upgrade will take six months. The damage during the storm was so severe that residents damaged their cars, some got stuck, and refuse collection trucks could not access the road. An improved stormwater management will also be done at the same time to prevent future flooding. Sudden winter chill sparks community action: WITBANK NEWS launches warmth drive

All of a sudden the mercury plummeted and winter is here. This sudden shift in seasons has highlighted the realities faced by many in our community. While some are fortunate enough to retreat into warm homes, shielded by adequate clothing and heating, others are not afforded such luxuries. The bitter cold makes the less fortunate more vulnerable. In a call for empathy, WITBANK NEWS is embarking on a project to collect blankets and warm clothes for the less fortunate. Driving this project, WITBANK NEWS advertising representative, Annatjie du Toit, said, 'This drive is an opportunity to contribute to a cause that directly impacts our community, transforming acts of kindness into much-needed warmth.' You can be part of this project by dropping off blankets, jackets, gloves and scarfs at the WITBANK NEWS office at 2 Lana Street in Model Park. WITBANK NEWS will post regular updates on social media and in print about the progress of the project. On July 4, the WITBANK NEWS staff will be at the Gereformeerde Kerk Hoëveld's golf day at Witbank Golf Club. You are also welcome to drop winter woollies off on the day and pop in for a chat. For more information about the winter warmer project, contact Annatjie on 063 605 3454.
