'Yellowstone' finale: What happened with Rip and Beth and what's next?
What's next for "Yellowstone"? Here's a recap of the finale and a look back to our chat with Cole Hauser and Kelly Reilly, plus a potential preview.
'Yellowstone' what? The TV world is currently gushing over Taylor Sheridan's "Landman" and Billy Bob Thornton's crude oil-industry fixer Tommy Norris.
The hit Paramount+ drama series about life in West Texas oilfields that also stars Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and Ali Larter has been renewed for Season 2, Paramount announced Wednesday.
Sheridan's "Yellowstone" (minus Kevin Costner's patriarch, John Dutton) may be seeking new life after officially ending in December with Season 5, Part 2 on the Paramount Network. But "Landman" has continued the producer's streak of hits since premiering last November, with what Paramount+ claims is its most-watched global series premiere yet.
"Landman" was so spot-on that Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' emotional cameo visiting the hospital bed of Hamm's Monty Miller went viral — and was almost powerful enough to erase the memory of his football team's miserable season. Thornton earned a Golden Globe nomination for best actor in a drama series, but lost to Hiroyuki Sanada for FX's "Shōgun".
The Season 2 premiere date has not been announced. But here's what's happening on the other Sheridan shows.
'1923' continues 'Yellowstone' saga in Season 2
After 2021's "1883" series established the origins of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, "1923" carries the family saga through the Prohibition era. In Season 2, currently underway, Jacob (Harrison Ford) and wife Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) defend the early ranch from the evil land baron Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton), a cynical early ski-resort proponent. Prodigal nephew Spencer (Brandon Sklenar) and his pregnant bride Alex (Julia Schlaepfer) race home to help save the sacred family plot and breed future generations before the April 6 season finale.
Next up for 'Yellowstone' world: Michelle Pfeiffer in 'Madison'
"The Madison" is the next "Yellowstone" spinoff, starring Michelle Pfeiffer as New York widow Stacy Clyburn, who trades Madison Avenue for the Madison River Valley of central Montana. The exact connection to the Dutton clan is still unclear, except that Clyburn has the family's grit in the series expected in the fall.
Jeremy Renner vows 'special' Season 4 of 'Mayor of Kingstown'
Just like star Jeremy Renner, beleaguered prison-town fixer Mike McLusky just keeps on rolling in "Mayor of Kingstown." After fending off the Russian mob that tried to muscle in on the action in Kingstown, Michigan, in 2024's Season 3, the perpetually battered McLusky will return for Season 4, Paramount+ announced in December. The gritty series also stars Hugh Dillon, who rocks, literally, as Detective Ian Ferguson. Dillon is the frontman of the rock band Headstones as well as an executive producer and Sheridan's co-creator.
Production is underway. Renner posted a moody Instagram photo from train tracks last month, promising that Season 4 "is shaping up to be something special."
Stallone won't sing in 'Tulsa King' Season 3
Sylvester Stallone's Dwight "The General" Manfredi is still ruling his growing Oklahoma crime family of adorable misfits in "Tulsa King." However, in November's Season 2 finale, a hooded Manfredi was dragged into a mysterious government office and told, "You work for us, now." Paramount has not officially greenlit Season 3, but Stallone is certain it will happen. Even before President Trump named him a "special ambassador" to Hollywood in January, Stallone, an executive producer, promised a third season and a suitable big-name actor to play his government handler. Don't worry, Manfredi won't sing to authorities about his friends; he's no prairie canary. The government relationship will be beneficial to Manfredi's operation.
'Tulsa King' Season 2 finale Stallone explains who got whacked and which enemies got closer
Zoe Saldaña will bring Oscar gold to Season 3 of 'Lioness'
Lioness chief Joe (Zoe Saldaña) survived another perilous mission, ending Season 2 last March with a brutal firefight in Iran. There has been no official announcement, but "Lioness" is a slam dunk to return for Season 3. Saldaña told Vanity Fair in November, "I signed up for three seasons at least, and so you do have a sort of contractual obligation to fulfill."
Saldaña will be packing gold with her tactical equipment. The actress won best supporting actress Oscar for "Emilia Pérez" at the 97th Academy Awards this month.
'Yellowstone' Season 5 heads to Peacock. When is new show?
In the ever-shifting Sheridan-verse, previously announced "Yellowstone" spinoffs like "1944" have moved to the back burner while "2024" looks to become the next version of "Yellowstone."
The table is set for the reported new series, centered on Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), or a sixth season of the original "Yellowstone" without Costner's Dutton (RIP, the finale casket was magnificent). Reilly is ready, Hauser is ripped. But fans are still waiting for the official update. The Season 5 finale (streaming on Peacock starting Sunday) ended with the couple starting fresh on a new ranch about 40 miles from Dillon, Montana. As Rip said to Beth in the closing scene: "Saddle your horse."

Amanda Seyfried Grossed Out She Invited ‘Dictator' Harvey Weinstein to Past Sundance Premiere: ‘It's Just the Way It Was — We All Needed Him'
Actor Amanda Seyfried said Hollywood is a 'safer' place since the downfall of Harvey Weinstein, while cringing over the influence the movie mogul used to wield. In a roving conversation for Variety's 'Actors on Actors,' Seyfried and two-time co-star Adam Brody reflected on how filmmakers would court Weinstein's attention for indie projects – including their own 'Lovelace,' a 2013 Sundance Film Festival selection that Weinstein ended up acquiring for distribution. More from Variety Amanda Seyfried and Adam Brody on Making 'Jennifer's Body,' Surviving 'O.C.' Fame and 'Mean Girls': 'Paramount Still Owes Me Money for the Likeness' Harvey Weinstein Says He Has 'Regrets' and 'Acted Immorally' Ahead of New York Retrial Verdict: 'But Never Illegal, Never Criminal' Kate Hudson, Adam Brody and the Cast of 'Yellowjackets' Kick Off the Inaugural Newport Beach TV Fest Over a decade ago in Park City, Utah, Seyfried recalled seeing Weinstein 'in a car. Slow motion, he's like rolling down his window and I'm like, 'Are you going to come to 'Lovelace' tomorrow?'' Weinstein told Seyfried he was meant to fly home during her screening but wound up delaying his trip, she told Brody. The 'Mamma Mia' and 'Long Bright River' star said she and her agent celebrated in that moment. 'Lovelace' followed mainstream adult film star Linda Lovelace and her infamous 1972 movie 'Deep Throat.' Brody played her X-rated scene partner. After the premiere screening in Sundance, Seyfried said Weinstein approached her and said he'd bought the project in the room for $3 million. 'I gave him the biggest hug… And it was actually his brother [Bob Weinstein]'s company called Radius, who just fucking trashed it and threw it away and didn't do anything with it and that's fine,' Seyfried said, also using the word 'dictator' to describe the studio head. 'The whole room was buzzing [because Harvey bought it]. He was like the big papa of the room … But it's just the way it was — we all needed him to want our project if it was an indie, because that meant it was going to go somewhere.' Brody remembered Weinstein as 'setting a tone' of fear, before deadpanning: 'What is he doing [now]?' Weinstein is currently sitting trial for sex crimes in New York. As for 'Lovelace,' Seyfried wasn't kidding. The project went on to gross only $1.5 million at the worldwide box office on a reported $10 million budget. Seyfried, currently an Emmy contender for her Peacock cop drama 'Long Bright River,' is grateful that Weinstein's reign of terror has ended. 'Hollywood's a safer place,' she said. 'People were scared of him. And when people are scared of someone, the right things don't happen.' ‘Maybe Happy Ending,' ‘Sunset Blvd.' Win Key 2025 Tony Awards: Full Winners List
Maybe Happy Ending was the top winner at the 2025 Tony Awards, winning six awards including best musical, best original score written for the theatre and best book of a musical. Will Aronson and Hue Park were winners in all three categories – with Aronson and Park being among the producers of the musical. Maybe Happy Ending is based on a South Korean one-act musical. The musical follows two life-like helper-bots, who discover each other in Seoul in the late 21st century. The 78th Annual Tony Awards, hosted for the first time by Cynthia Erivo, were held at Radio City Music Hall in New York City on Sunday (June 8). The show was broadcast live coast-to-coast on CBS, and streaming on Paramount+ in the U.S. More from Billboard 2025 Tony Awards: 11 Things You Didn't See on TV Kylie Minogue Joins Prestigious '21 Club' at London's O2 Arena Kevin Parker Previews New Tame Impala Music During Barcelona DJ Set Darren Criss, who was part of the chart-conquering Glee phenomenon and has had such solo successes as A Very Darren Crissmas, won two Tonys for Maybe Happy Ending – best actor in a leading role in a musical and as one of the producers of the show. The versatile performer won a Primetime Emmy for his role as spree killer Andrew Cunanan in The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story (2018). Nicole Scherzinger, who had four top 10 hits on the Hot 100 with The Pussycat Dolls, won best actress in a musical for Sunset Blvd. Glenn Close won in the same category for the original production in 1995. Scherzinger beat Audra McDonald for a revival of Gypsy. McDonald has won more Tonys than any other performer (six), but has now lost in her last three nominations – for Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune (2020), Ohio State Murders (2023) and now Gypsy. Trailing Maybe Happy Ending on the list of shows with the most awards were: Buena Vista Social Club with four awards; Sunset Blvd. and Stranger Things: The First Shadow, with three; and Purpose, The Picture of Dorian Gray and Oh, Mary! with two each. The productions that experienced the biggest shut-outs, going home empty-handed, were: Dead Outlaw, John Proctor Is the Villain and The Hills of California, each of went 0-7 on the night, and Floyd Collins and Just in Time, each of went 0-6; and English, Good Night, and Good Luck and Gypsy, each of went 0-5. Sunset Blvd. also won best revival of a musical (beating Gypsy, among others). The original production won best musical in 1995. Greg Berlanti is among the producers of the revival. Buena Vista Social Club features music recorded by Buena Vista Social Club. The musical is set in Havana, Cuba and follows the lives of four musicians, and their eventual collaboration in 1997 on the landmark album Buena Vista Social Club. The music in the show is presented entirely in Spanish. The original album was inducted into the National Recording Registry in 2022 and the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2024. This musical is based on a 1999 documentary about the making of the album that received an Oscar nod for documentary (feature). Several people won for their Broadway debuts, including Sarah Snook, best performance by an actress in a leading role in play for The Picture of Dorian Gray; Jak Malone, best performance by an actor in a featured role in a musical for Operation Mincemeat: A New Musical; and George Reeve, best scenic design of a musical for Maybe Happy Ending. Snook won a Primetime Emmy in 2023, outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role as Shiv Roy in HBO Max's Succession. Paul Tazewell won best costume design of a musical for his work on Death Becomes Her. Tazewell won an Oscar earlier this year for best costume design for Wicked. 'A Black queer boy from Canton, Ohio had no idea that in 2025 he would have the year he has had,' Tazewell said in a accepting his Tony. Cole Escola won best performance by an actor in a leading role in a play for playing Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary! Julie Harris won best actress in a leading role in a play in 1973 for playing the former first lady in The Last of Mrs. Lincoln. Kara Young won best performance by an actress in a featured role in a play for Purpose. She won in that category last year for Purlie Victorious. She's the second actress to win two years running in that category. The first was Judith Light in 2012-13 for Other Desert Cities and The Assembled Parties. Moreover, she's the first Black actor to win back-to-back Tonys in any category. Erivo and Sara Bareilles sang 'Tomorrow' from Annie over the In Memoriam segment. It was an apt choice, as that song's composer, Charles Strouse, died in May. Also in the spot: actors including Richard Chamberlain, Linda Lavin, Jean Marsh, Gavin Creel and James Earl Jones and producer Quincy Jones.
