Over 23 percent of land records in Karnataka still in names of deceased owners
BENGALURU: The State Government, which has initiated a campaign to link Aadhar with Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops (RTC), has found that over 23% of documents related to land ownership are in the names of the dead.

, there are 4.20 crore land owners whose Aadhar numbers have to be linked with RTCs.
The revenue department has completed linking 2.25 crore land owners' Aadhar numbers with their RTCs. Of them, 52.40 lakh owners have been declared dead as per a report.
Tumakuru district has the highest number of such cases with 5.61 lakh owners declared dead, followed by Belagavi with 4.7 lakh owners, Mandya 3.7 lakh and Kodagu and Kolar 2.8 lakh each.
The number of dead land owners is expected to increase if 4.2 crore owners' Aadhar numbers are linked with RTCs. After the death of a land owner, his land should be transferred to his legal heirs. The government has initiated village adalats, where a designated officer from the revenue department will dispose of cases that are not in the court of law.
With Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops still in the names of dead persons (mostly parents), the legal heirs are unable to avail themselves of many benefits, including compensation in case of natural calamities or loans from banks.

State heading towards tough time as quantum of borrowings reduced
The State Government appears to be heading towards a tough time in the coming months as the quantum of borrowings has been brought down yet again. The State has proposed to raise close to ₹70,000 crore loans during the financial year 2025-26. Of these, open market loans were pegged at ₹64,539 crore, ₹4,000 crore loans from Government of India and another ₹1,000 crore through other loans, according to the figures presented in the overall budgetary position of the current fiscal. However, the quantum under the borrowings and other liabilities for the fiscal year has been cut to ₹54,009 crore, going by the provisional details released by the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India for April. This is not the first time the Union Finance Ministry has restricted the borrowings limit of the State. It had imposed similar cuts in the borrowings in the past too citing financial discipline. Interest payment The expenditure on account of interest payment is continuing to rise, imposing a huge burden on the exchequer. The State had made a provision of ₹19,369 crore towards interest payment during the current fiscal and had repaid ₹2,260 crore, 11.67% in April alone, indicating that the total payment at the end of the fiscal could cross the budgetary estimates. It may be recalled that expenditure on account of interest payment in the last financial year was ₹26,688 crore as against the ₹17,729 crore projected in the budget estimates. Meanwhile, the State registered an overall revenue of ₹16,473 crore in April, 5.78% of ₹2.84 lakh crore projected in the budget estimates. Of the total, borrowings constituted ₹5,230 crore and tax revenue ₹10,916 crore. Revenue through GST was ₹4,054 crore, stamps and registration (₹1,126 crore) and State Excise duties (₹1,288 crore). Non-tax revenue and grants in aid and contributions remained non-starters at ₹253 crore and ₹68.85 crore, respectively. Non-tax revenue was just 0.80% of the ₹31,618 crore and grants in aid 0.30% of ₹22,782 crore projected in the budget estimates, according to the CAG report.

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], June 7 (ANI): Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, while inaugurating the new Development Center of Infosys at GIFT City, reaffirmed the State Government's commitment to advancing the AI industry by implementing artificial intelligence-based systems across the state. He stated that the establishment of an AI Centre of Excellence at GIFT City is aimed at creating a unified platform that brings together solution developers, experts, professionals, and startups under one roof. According to the release, the newly operational Development Center of Infosys at GIFT City will focus on delivering advanced financial technology solutions under the FinTech framework. Additionally, it will place a strong emphasis on global services and innovation. In addition, the centre will provide advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI-driven insights specifically tailored for financial institutions. It will also focus on delivering secure and transparent solutions for digital payments, smart contracts, and asset tokenization. Established with an investment of Rs32 crore, the Infosys Development Center is expected to create employment opportunities for over 1,000 professionals, further mentioned in the release. Expressing his gratitude to Infosys for establishing this Development Center in Gujarat, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel stated that GIFT City--envisioned under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi--has emerged as the nation's hub for technology and fintech, hosting several leading global IT, fintech, and new-age technology firms. He further added that the definition of technology has transformed over the past decade as a result of the Digital India Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Funds will be released to expedite PRLIS: Telanagan Dy CM Bhatti
HYDERABAD: Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday alleged that the BRS leaders, when they were in power, looted the state like bandits. Referring to BRS MLC K Kavitha's recent remarks against her own party leaders, he said: 'Even their own family members are now exposing the BRS leaders.' The deputy CM was addressing a public meeting after laying the foundation for 12 sub-stations at Devarakadra. He emphasised that real democracy is being upheld now with funds being spent on public welfare under the leadership of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. Efforts are being made to transform Telangana into a globally competitive state, he added. After laying the stone for 12 sub-stations, he said that the government will fast-track the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme works by releasing required funds. He also announced that funds for R&R and land acquisition would be released immediately. 'The gap between the Narlapur and Edula reservoirs will be filled with necessary funding,' he said and recalled that when `70 crore was needed for the Uddandapur R&R package, the government released them without any hesitation. Referring to Krishna river water, he said the people of Palamuru region dreamed of utilising these waters, which is why they demanded a separate state. 'But during their 10-year rule, the previous rulers couldn't provide irrigation even to a single acre,' he said. The deputy CM also said that all major irrigation projects in the erstwhile Mahbubnagar district — Jurala, Koilsagar, Bheema, Nettempadu, and Kalwakurthy — were completed by the Congress governments. 'If the previous Congress government had given permission for the Palamuru-Rangareddy project, then in June 2015, KCR laid the foundation at Karivena and promised to complete it in three years. It's been 10 years... why couldn't he provide water?' he asked. Vikramarka hailed the free RTC bus travel scheme for women across the state and wondered why the 'financially sound' BRS government failed to implement it earlier. He said the current people's government aims to turn one crore women into crorepatis within five years. 'As part of this, within the first year of our rule, `21,000 crore interest-free loans have been given to self-help groups.' he said. 'You don't need to be an MLA to do business or get contracts,' he said and added, 'You need to elect MLAs who will raise the people's voice in the Assembly and protect democratic values. I congratulate the people of Mahbubnagar for electing such representatives.'
