New ‘dirty' Mountain Dew collab with beloved fast food brand is bizarre — and fans can't wait to try it
They're dewing the unexpected.
Move over, Baja Blast. Fans of Taco Bell and Mountain Dew's cult-favorite beverage might be surprised to learn that the soft drink brand is partnering with a new fast food chain to debut their foray into the 'dirty soda' trend.
Now, the drink fountains at KFC are dispensing a limited-edition Peaches and Cream Sweet Lightning soda, the fried-chicken chain recently announced.
The new drink is a modern twist on the original Sweet Lightning drink, which launched exclusively at KFC in 2019, now with an added swirl of sweet vanilla cream

Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning Peaches and Cream soda is meant to taste like a sweet honey creamsicle, perfect for summer.
'Leaning into the viral dirty soda trend popular among Gen Z and Millennials, this bold new flavor hits restaurants starting June 9,' KFC said in the announcement. 'For an extra twist, customers can add a vanilla cream swirl to elevate every sip.'
The dirty soda trend sees people mixing fountain soda with syrups, cream and other candies, a combination popularized by Mormon communities in Utah, which gained popularity and took over TikTok thanks to 'The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.'
This isn't Mountain Dew's first dirty soda collab of the year. The new drink at KFC follows Mountain Dew's Mango Rush at Little Caesars, Baja Cabo Citrus as part of the Baja Blast lineup, and Dragon Fruit at Walmart.
The release of the Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning Peaches and Cream soda is part of KFC's collaboration with the upcoming film 'F1: The Movie' starring Brad Pitt.
KFC is also bringing back the fan-favorite Fill Ups in four different combos with options for tenders, fried chicken and KFC's Famous Bowl for just $7.
KFC's Mountain Dew Sweet Lightning Peaches & Cream is only available for a limited time — and fans are already excited.
'I think it sounds awesome, and I'm excited to try it!' one person shared on Reddit.
'I would definitely go out of my way to try this at least once,' another wrote.
'They've had sweet lightning for a while and … it's a great flavor! It's one of my favorites!' someone noted.

'Haptic Trailer' For Brad Pitt's 'F1' Lets You Feel The Race On iPhone
In the movie "F1" Brad Pitt, shown opposite Damson Idris, is a Formula One racer who gets another ... More chance to prove himself. Want to feel what it's like to be Brad Pitt as a Formula One driver tearing around a racetrack? Apple has released a 'haptic trailer' for the upcoming racing film F1 that brings racing sensations to iPhones. The trailer leverages the phone's Taptic Engine to deliver vibrations that sync with the onscreen action as Pitt straps in for some high-speed shenanigans. Apple promises that viewers will 'experience the power of the engines, the rumble of the curbs and the intensity of every gear shift like never before with responsive vibrations.' That makes the haptic trailer sound more dramatic than it actually is, but the revs and roars are still a fun, novel way to draw interest for the film and demonstrate another way technology is making entertainment experiences more multisensory. The trailer works on iPhones 18.4 or later. F1, out in theaters June 27 from Apple Original Films, stars Pitt as Sonny Hayes, a fictional Formula One prodigy in the 1990s who has to retire due to a crash and now lives in a van and gambles his life away. In the film, a former teammate played by Javier Bardiem convinces Hayes to return to Formula 1 to save a struggling team and get the chance to prove he's still got it. I think we all know where this one's headed. 'As the engines roar, Sonny's past catches up with him and he finds that in Formula 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition, and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone,' reads a description of the film directed by Joseph Kosinski of Top Gun: Maverick, who also directed Tron: Legacy. Apple premiered the haptic trailer during this week's 2025 Worldwide Developers Conference. There, the company announced, among other things, its next iPhone operating software, iOS 26, which promises to screen scam calls and hold your place in the dreaded phone waiting line when you're stuck on hold. F1 features several F1 drivers including Lewis Hamilton in addition to starring Pitt, Bardiem, Damson Idris and Irish actor Kerry Condon, who gives Pitt's character a tough talking to in the trailer. 'They saying Sonny Hayes isn't a has-been,' she tells him. 'He's a never was.' Gauntlet thrown! Apple first introduced haptics to the iPhone in 2015 with a tiny motorized actuator that delivers subtle tactile sensations to confirm actions like toggling a switch or unlocking a device with Face ID and also provide discreet notifications when a phone's on silent. Last year, Apple released a number of accessibility features for iPhone users, including Music Haptics, which uses the Taptic Engine to layer synchronized sensations onto audio so those with hearing loss can get a more immersive listening experience. Feel the need for speed but don't have an iPhone? Here's a non-haptic version of the F1 trailer.

Instagram Wants Gen Z. What Does Gen Z Want From Instagram?
How badly does the photo-sharing app Instagram covet young users? On Thursday, it introduced the most expensive brand campaign in the app's history, according to Meta, and it is squarely focused on Gen Z. 'We're 15 years old now, and I think one of the core challenges we face is: How do we stay relevant?' Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, said in an interview. The campaign, a series of digital advertisements and billboards featuring stars like the musicians Rosalía and Tyler, the Creator, casts Instagram as a launchpad for scrappy creative types. (As opposed to, perhaps, a social media behemoth whose owner, Meta, is facing a landmark antitrust trial.) It is just one way in which Meta is acting on its long-simmering anxiety that Instagram risks being written off by a younger generation that expects a looser, less manicured social media experience. 'It's just a lot less pressure posting on TikTok,' said Sheen Zutshi, 21, a college student in New York. She uses Instagram to send direct messages to her friends, but sees it as a more curated option — the sort of place where someone might earnestly post a photo of the night sky, like her older cousin did recently. 'It's just really cute, because she's a millennial,' she said. Instagram is the third most widely used social media site among teenagers, behind YouTube and TikTok, according to a 2024 report from Pew Research. In a survey conducted this spring by the investment bank Piper Sandler, nearly half of teenagers said they considered TikTok their 'favorite' platform. In interviews, a dozen members of Gen Z, ranging in age from 15 to 26, said they still used Instagram to keep in touch with friends, scope out crushes, build businesses and pore over cooking videos, despite worrying at times about the app's effects on their mental health. But out of all of its features, they seemed least interested in the polished, public photo feed that had once been Instagram's marquee offering. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
