Labrador City's safety manager, Wayne Power, says the snowplow naming contest was a great opportunity to engage the community and town staff. (Town of Labrador City/Facebook)
In Labrador City, you now might hear someone say "there goes Truck Norris," or "look, it's Adam Sand-ler."
Kids from the town were given a chance to name five new snowplows in a recent contest.
The names Ctrl-Salt-Delete, Plowabunga and Winter Warrior were also among the winners.
The town's safety manager, Wayne Power, says he jumped on the opportunity after seeing other municipalities hold similar contests.
Labrador City ended with over 3,500 entries from children between four and 12 years old.
"I got to be honest, the creativity, the enthusiasm and the efforts that were made by the kids spoke for itself," said Power.
In the coming days, Power said the winning names will be printed on the trucks for the whole town to see.
He said he and his staff went through all of the entry forms.
Once they had the list down to 30 entries, they posted it in the public works' break room. All 35 employees weighed in by checking off their favourites, and the final five were selected.
Kaylee Marsh came out on top by winning the first two spots with her suggestions Truck Norris and Ctrl-Salt-Delete.
"Overall, it was amazing. The kids today enjoyed it, I got to say, and I'll be honest, we enjoyed it as well," said Power
The winners got toy Tonka trucks and gift cards as their awards.
And the town will be going through the process again in the summertime, as they'll have new pieces of equipment to name. But those names will be decided by the town's seniors.
"We'll have the contest and we'll bring them inside and then and we'll present them with their awards. So we're looking forward to that," said Power.
For Power, this was an opportunity to engage with the town's employees.
"Bringing something like this into a small community such as Labrador City was huge for the employees. They love it. It just increases the employee engagement here as well," said Power.

Leawood police give fawns a chance at life after their mother died

Leawood police made some new four-legged friends Monday, when they were called to rescue two baby deer who became orphaned after their mother was injured on a rod-iron fence and died. A resident discovered the two fawns on their property, and Leawood police and animal control departments quickly jumped into action to save the fawns, who were too small to survive on their own. Animal control officer Carla Lewis led the charge. Lewis and multiple officers spent much of the day trying to rescue the fawns and find a place for them to stay. According to a Facebook post from the Leawood police, Lewis eventually found a team that could take care of the deer. 'Without her dedication and determination, they would have slowly starved,' the Facebook post read. According to Lewis, the fawns were taken to Beavers' Den Wildlife Rehabilitation Center outside of Udall, Kansas, and three hours southwest of Leawood. The Beavers' Den is a licensed wildlife rehab center that rehabilitates injured and orphaned mammals, according to its Facebook page. The fawns will likely stay there until they are a little bit older and can fend for themselves in the wild.

Five-star loos lead to 'toilet envy'

Eight public toilets in the Chichester district will be refurbished after getting council approval. The plans follow the demolition and rebuilding of the old toilet block in Tower Street. The new Tower Street toilet, which opened earlier this month, cost more than £200,000 and has been said to be inspiring "envy" in other areas after receiving positive Google reviews. The cost of the latest scheme has not yet been revealed but will be made up of money from the Asset Replacement Fund and from reserves. Chichester District Council does not legally have to provide public toilets, but leader Adrian Moss said they were important to residents, adding that the Tower Street project had been "a triumph". Councillor John Cross added: "There is a bit of toilet envy going on with other district councils because our Tower Street toilets have been given a five-star rating on Google and other district councils want the same!" The toilets set for improvement are in Bracklesham Bay in Bracklesham, Pound Road car park in Petworth, Lifeboat Way in Selsey, Northgate car park in Chichester, Avenue de Chartres car park in Chichester, Hillfield Road in Selsey, Kingfisher Parade in East Wittering and Marine Drive in West Wittering. The council will now look for a contractor to carry out the work, which will be a phased approach over the next two years, said the Local Democracy Reporting Service. Coast Guard searching for missing fishing vessel off Cape Cod

The Coast Guard is searching for a missing fishing vessel last seen off Cape Cod. The F/V Seahorse, a white 30-foot fishing vessel, is two days overdue and was last known to be fishing near the Target Ship Wreck near Eastham. The Coast Guard says a cell phone ping last placed the ship two miles offshore of Chatham. The vessel is captained by Shawn Arsenault. Anyone with information regarding the vessel is asked the Southeastern New England command center at (866) 819-9128. This is a developing story.
