Fraudulent Fundraiser for Angie Stone Banned by GoFundMe After Raising Thousands

Yahoo06-03-2025

A fraudulent fundraiser claiming to support Angie Stone's legacy just days after her death has been banned by GoFundMe -- after raking in over $12K.
A GoFundMe spokesperson confirmed to TMZ that all donations have been refunded, and the organizer, going by the name "Lenda Peers," has been banned from any future fundraising.
Typically, on GoFundMe, a beneficiary is clearly named if funds are being raised for someone else.
But, this particular fundraiser never mentioned how the money would be used or how Angie's family would be supported. Instead, the bio just gave a brief rundown of Angie's fame and her death.
Speaking to us, the spokesperson added ... "At no point did the organizer have access to any of the donations. GoFundMe has zero tolerance for the misuse of our platform and takes swift action against those who seek to take advantage of the generosity of our community.
"While cases of misuse are rare, donors and beneficiaries are fully protected by GoFundMe's Giving Guarantee. We are continuing to closely monitor the platform for any fundraisers related to the passing of Angie Stone and will remove those found to be in violation of our Terms of Service."
It was definitely suspicious activity ... the $12K that was raised was just a fraction of the $25K goal -- but luckily, it was shut down before it hit its target.
As we told you, Stone's real family is making plans for a public memorial in Atlanta and a smaller funeral ceremony in Columbia, South Carolina. TMZ broke the devastating news she was killed in a traffic accident Saturday morning.

Heart medicine stolen from porch of transplant patient in Glasgow Village

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Tiara Johnson, a heart transplant recipient, is speaking out after her heart medicine was stolen from her porch Friday afternoon. 'I was inside with the door open when it happened,' she said. Her doorbell captured images of the theft. She reported the crime to St. Louis County Police investigators. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now 'It's not an Amazon package,' said Johnson. 'That was my medication I depend on to live.' She fears there will be few consequences because the suspects are juveniles. 'I need them to know the significance and harm they caused,' she said. Johnson reported the crime to her pharmacy. She said the pharmacy is investigating before determining whether the medication will be replaced. St. Louis County Police confirm one juvenile suspect was identified. In cases involving minors, police are limited in how much information they can share publicly. Johnson said even before the crime, she was facing medical debt from the transplant. She started a GoFundMe to help with expenses. 'I fought very hard, almost eight years, to get this heart, and I try my best to be a good steward over my heart in memory of my heart donor,' she said. Local bikers looking for answers from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office after one of their own was severely injured in a hit-and-run

AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) – Family and friends say they want justice for 27-year-old Morgan Gray. Gray was injured in a hit-and-run on her motorcycle on May 28th. She's in critical condition here at Doctors Hospital. And her loved ones say someone needs to be held accountable. The accident occurred just before 9 pm at the intersection of Wheeler Road and Frontage Road. Since this incident, bikers have been coming and forming a prayer circle in front of her window at the Hospital. 'We're Morgan Strong all day,' said Dalton Taylor, a Friend of Morgan. 'This little girl shouldn't be going through this all because of a hit and run. So, it's just pretty much just trying to get peace, get justice.' Summer Ivey, Morgan's cousin, has been working to obtain information from the Richmond County Sheriff's Office about the investigation but told me she feels she is getting the bare minimum from them. 'We've asked for updates. We've called, no reply,' said Summer Ivey, Morgans's Cousin. 'We've posted on social media. We've been loud. We've been doing prayer circles, just trying to be there for her. Her son needs her; her family needs her. Her friends, obviously, and we're just steadily going to fight.' The Sheriff's Office located the vehicle and its owner. The vehicle was a company vehicle. They are collecting evidence about the driver but are unable to say anything at this time. 'We have our suspicions, but there's a protocol that we follow,' said Major Robbie Silas, Special Operations Richmond County Sheriff's Office. 'I have a great team that is working tirelessly, you know, around the clock, trying to find the driver of this vehicle. Again, like I said, we are collecting evidence. The vehicle has been processed, and once we get all that, and we'll run that to the DA's office and let them see all the stuff that we have, and then we'll make those charges.' While they continue to seek answers about what happened and who is responsible, they have this solution to keep drivers on both four- and two-wheels safe. 'Regardless of what the situation is. We're on two wheels. Pay attention,' said Taylor. They have a GoFundMe for Morgan Grey. They are also hosting a fundraiser on Saturday, June 21st, at Street & Trail Motorsports from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Taylor Swift's Safety in Question After Chilling Encounter With Stalker

Taylor Swift's Safety in Question After Chilling Encounter With Stalker originally appeared on Athlon Sports. While pop star Taylor Swift has had plenty to celebrate over the last week after announcing she bought back the master recordings of her first six studio albums, she's also had some difficulties too. Swift, who's dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has spent the bulk of the last four months out of the public eye with her NFL star love interest traveling overseas and taking several offseason vacations together. But it wasn't that long ago that the couple was dealing with a worrying security threat after Kelce's $6 million Leawood, Kansas, home was broken into last year. The incident reportedly left the couple on 'high alert' given Swift's prior history with security issues when she had to cancel several shows during her 'Eras Tour' last year in Austria after it was discovered she was the alleged target of a planned terrorist attack. And now, according to a report from TMZ, Swift has more security issues to worry about after she had multiple chilling run-ins with a stalker recently that prompted her to file a restraining order on Friday. According to documents obtained by TMZ, Swift claims ex-convict Brian Jason Wagner, who's reportedly been harassing her for years, showed up at her house uninvited in May requesting to see her. Wagner has also allegedly changed the address on his driver's license to her home in Los Angeles, and he's even falsely claimed Swift is the mother of his child. Swift asked the court to order Wagner to stay at least 100 yards away from her, her residence, her workplace, and her car. 'Taylor claims Wagner used concerning and threatening language in the communications and tried to divert mail from her residence,' TMZ reported. 'Taylor says Wagner previously showed up to her home at least 3 times in July 2024 ... including one alleged visit where he was allegedly carrying a glass bottle 'that could have been used as a weapon.'' The news prompted several of Swift's fans to hit social media to express their concern over her safety. "I am glad she has Travis to protect her when they are together," one fan wrote. "The amount of potentially harmful weirdos she has in her orbit is scary," another added. "Every single person who stalks her jet, his friends, has GCs passing details on her whereabouts, and feels entitled to her personal all contribute to this sort of thing. And I hope karma finds you swiftly," a third fan exclaimed. "This is exactly why people need to stop posts pictures of Taylor without her knowledge or consent and giving away her location Taylor has all sorts of crazy people after her," one user scoffed. "This is why we don't share her location in real time," remarked another user. Fortunately for Swift, she's spent most of her time this offseason with Kelce, and she's been in Kansas City with him recently as he prepares for the upcoming NFL season. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 9, 2025, where it first appeared.
