Boat capsizes during Kantara-1 shooting, Rishab Shetty, 30 crew members escape unhurt

Shivamogga (Karnataka) June 15 (PTI) A boat capsized in a reservoir during the shooting of Kannada film Kantara: Chapter 1, but actor-director Rishab Shetty and 30 crew members escaped unhurt, averting a major mishap, police sources said.
This incident allegedly occurred during the filming in the Mani reservoir in the Masti Katte region of Shivamogga district, they added.
The accident occurred in a shallow zone of the reservoir, near an area locally known as Melina Koppa, which helped avert a possible tragedy.
However, cameras and other filming equipment are believed to have been lost to the water. The losses are yet to be assessed. According to the Thirthahalli police, who visited the spot, people onboard escaped unhurt. Police are investigating.
Theatre artist Ramadas Poojary told PTI that making a movie on the spirits of Dakshina Kannada is always risky, as the spirits (Bhootas-Daivas) do not like the commercialisation of any activity connected to them.
However, Rishab Shetty, who reveres the spirits, has conducted elaborate poojas to them and was given permission to make the film, says Poojary.
A senior crew member who spoke to PTI on the condition of anonymity said some of the crew members panicked when the boat overturned, but since it was in the shallow waters, all of them waded through to safety. "It shows that the spirits have blessed us in some way," the crew member said.
This incident marks yet another setback for Kantara: Chapter 1, which is grappling with a series of unfortunate events.
In the past month alone, the production team has lost three artists to unrelated incidents, adding to the challenges faced by the film's crew.

Another Tragedy On The Sets Of Kantara: Chapter 1: Rishab Shetty And Crew Escape Unharmed After Boat Capsizes

New Delhi: The much-anticipated Kantara: Chapter 1 has once again made headlines for another mishap during filming. Actor-director Rishab Shetty and his crew narrowly escaped a boat accident while shooting a scene for the film. According to a report by India Today, the incident occurred at the Mani Reservoir in the Masti Katte region of Shivamogga district, Karnataka. A boat carrying crew members capsized in the reservoir. Fortunately, the mishap took place in a shallow area near a spot locally known as Melina Koppa, which helped prevent a major tragedy. While there were no injuries, cameras and filming equipment are believed to have been lost to the water. The Thirthahalli police are currently assessing the accident and conducting an investigation. This incident adds to a string of challenges the film crew has faced recently. Just last month, the production team suffered the loss of three artistes in unrelated incidents. In May 2025, filming was temporarily halted following the death of a junior artiste on set, further delaying the project. Kantara: Chapter 1 is the prequel to the blockbuster Kannada action-thriller Kantara (2022), and is both written and directed by Rishab Shetty. The film is produced by Hombale Films, and co-produced by Vijay Kiragandur and Chaluve Gowda. The story is set during the reign of the Kadambas of Banavasi, and features a powerful ensemble cast including Jayaram, Kishore, and Jayasurya, alongside Rishab Shetty himself. Kantara: Chapter 1 is scheduled for release on October 2, 2025.

From Learning Kathak To Relishing Pani Puri And Vada Pav: Inside Jackson Wang's Trip To India

Mumbai: Popular singer-rapper Jackson Wang, who is on his second trip to India, says he is in the country to "observe, absorb and be inspired" by everyday lives, whether it is sampling Mumbai's street food or playing cricket on the beach with locals. Wang is in Mumbai to promote his upcoming album "Magic Man 2". He previously visited the country for a performance at Lollapalooza India in 2023. During his week-long trip, the singer said he has picked up words like 'Namaste', and 'Shukriya'. He hopes to spend the rest of his time "without a direction and destination." "(Where) I can just go out and experience it myself, and not someone trying to show me around the town. So, whatever the locals are doing, I want to just follow, observe, absorb, learn and also be inspired," Wang told PTI. The 31-year-old singer is a part of the popular K-pop group "Got7", and is credited for hits such as "Blow" and "100 Ways". Wang's new album "Magic Man 2" is a follow-up to his popular 2022 album of the same name. The singer's video of eating spicy street food like vada pav and meeting Hrithik Roshan has already gone viral on social media. His meeting with Roshan also sparked rumours of a possible collaboration on "Krrish 4". But Wang said these reports are fake. "When we're together, especially Hrithik and I, we don't talk about work. So work-related stuff is never brought up in our conversation", he said, adding that "Krrish 4" is a big movie but he is not there. Asked what all he has experienced during his short trip. Wang said, "I forgot the name, but I liked the yoghurt and the crispy ball with beans in it (dahi sev puri). I've also had a sandwich on the street with mayonnaise and cheese, and the potato ball inside the bun (vada pav), I like that too. I am allergic to chilis, but I am okay with spices. I had a great time." Wang, who previously collaborated with Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh on the track "Buck", considers the actor-singer a close friend. 'We're friends (Diljit and I), we are in shoots, and I'm a big fan of his. He shows me a lot of love, and I appreciate him as a senior, as a legendary icon. We never know when it will happen (collaboration). It probably will happen," he said. With nearly a decade in music industry, Wang said he has learnt the importance of taking time off. "When I was recharging, I started writing my personal diaries, which turned into music. The The way the entire 'Magic Man 2' looks is what I felt internally, it's not based on one thing, it's everything in general. Every single song is about what and how I feel about reality, society, and humanity." PTI KKP BK ATR ATR
