Frank Lloyd Wright's Forgotten Food Truck Design Inspired a New Airstream Trailer
The latest car news, reviews, and features. Legendary American architect Frank Lloyd Wright is known for many spectacular building designs, from unique homes to the Guggenheim Museum. But did you know he also sketched a 'mobile kitchen' food truck concept in 1939? It never went into physical production, but it did help inform this new collaboration between Airstream camp trailers and the Frank Lloyd Wright foundation. Behold the Airstream Frank Lloyd Wright Usonian Limited Edition Travel Trailer. This 28-foot beauty retains Airstream's iconic chrome catarpillar silhouette but adds some of FLW's signature design elements and colorways inside. Airstream will build 200 over the next two years with a list price of $184,900. That's a lot of coin, but hardly outside Airstream's normal pricing. A 28-foot Classic model starts at $179,900. Airstream 'Usonian' was a term Wright used instead of 'American' to refer more specifically to the United States as opposed to North and/or South America. It's also applied even more specifically to the small dwelling designs he did, so invoking it for the trailer's name makes sense. Obviously, Mr. Wright himself did not work on this collab—he passed away in 1959. But the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, which works out of Wright's Taliesin West home and studio in Scottsdale, Arizona, is still very much active and applying his design philosophy to new projects such as this customized camper. Wright's longtime home and design studio, Taliesin West in Scottsdale, Arizona, is now the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation's base. Airstream If you look at FLW's projects casually, you might think his style is all about intense lines and big, sweeping shapes. But the core of Wright's design philosophy was complementing nature. In his words: 'I'd like to have architecture that belonged where you see it standing.' That was translated to Airstream's trailer here by adding windows and rearranging the interior layout a bit to maximize natural light. The primary sleeping area is moved to just in front of the large rear hatch 'to create a focal point for blending interior and exterior,' Airstream explains in a blog post. A slatted ceiling fixture runs along the spine of the interior, 'framing skylights, concealing venting, and creating dynamic light and shadow throughout the interior.' All the interior elements are made of similarly strong and clean-looking dark wood pieces with a very mid-century modern vibe. The sleeping area near the big hatch can convert into couches. Airstream Interior details also play a big part in giving the camper a distinctive Wrightian look, though much of the trailer's smaller elements and accessories were inspired more specifically by Eugene Masselink. He was at one time Wright's personal secretary, and 'one of Wright's most trusted apprentice designers.' Masselink is credited with the Gordon Leaf pattern that appears throughout the trailer. Finally, the color palette is pulled from the 'Wright-curated 1955 Martin-Senour Paint collection,' featuring heavy desert influence and earthtones. The exterior looks pretty standard, except for the little stripe and 'Frank Lloyd Wright' emblem near the back. Airstream Since Wright's food truck was never built, this new Airstream is kind of the only piece of architecture attached to him that's on wheels. Airstream Frank Lloyd Wright might not have lived to see his food truck idea come online. But even though this Airstream looks pretty standard from the outside, I think some of his signatures are pretty well nodded to in the interior. It's a great looking trailer, regardless. Finally—a Wright house on wheels! If you'd like to get a little deeper on the specifics after scrolling through the photos above, check out this contextual video featuring Bob Wheeler and Mollie Hansen from Airstream, and Henry Hendrix from the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, expounding Wright and Airstream's well-known looks coming together in the project. Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham earned record bonus by passing Jim Harbaugh
Arizona State football coach Kenny Dillingham earned record bonus by passing Jim Harbaugh Show Caption Hide Caption ASU football coach Kenny Dillingham discusses significance of Pat's Run ASU football coach Kenny Dillingham discusses how important Pat's Run is to the ASU community on April 12, 2025. The bonuses include $2.604 million for on-field performance and at least $502,500 for academic achievements. Arizona State's Kenny Dillingham has earned more bonus money in a single school year than any football coach at a public school. Dillingham will collect at least $3.056 million in on-field and academic performance-related bonuses for the 2024-25 school year, which surpasses the $3 million that Michigan paid John Harbaugh for winning the national championship in 2023-24, according to a database of public college coaches' contracts maintained by USA TODAY Sports. Dillingham received $2.604 million in football-related bonuses after the Sun Devils finished the season with an 11-3 record, won the Big 12 Conference and earned the No. 4 seed in the College Football Playoff. Arizona State lost its quarterfinal game against Texas in the Peach Bowl finished No. 7 in the final US LBM Top 25 Coaches Poll. Dillingham will also receive at least $502,500 in academic-related bonuses for the team's Academic Progress Rate, Graduation Success Rate, Grade Point Average and enrolling three new scholarship student athletes in the Barrett Honors College. This extra half-million dollars pushes Dillingham past Harbaugh and into first place on the list for most bonus money in a single school year since 2019, when USA TODAY Sports began keeping track of these payments. Most college coaches' contracts, acquired by USA TODAY Sports through public records requests, do not include such lucrative bonus incentives for academic performance. Indiana's Curt Cignetti ($1.5 million) and Iowa State's Matt Campbell ($1.35 million) earned the second- and third-largest bonuses among college football coaches during the 2024-25 school year, and neither has academic performance-related incentives in their contracts on file with USA TODAY Sports. Dillingham gave $300,000 of his bonus to his staff, the school confirmed. The coach earned a $200,000 bonus for winning a ninth regular-season game, which he distributed among more than 20 staff members around Thanksgiving, as has been reported, and later distributed another $100,000, which has not been previously reported. Dillingham's compensation was among the lowest in Big 12 Conference Dillingham's annual compensation in 2024 was $3.95 million, which ranked 11th out of 12 football coaches at public schools in the Big 12 Conference and served as the basis for many of his on-field bonuses. (Baylor and TCU are private schools, are not subject to open-records laws and do not release their coaches' contracts.) Dillingham's annual compensation increased to $5.8 million in 2025, after his contract was renegotiated and approved by the Arizona Board of Regents. Dillingham to receive more than $500,000 in academic bonuses Dillingham will receive at least $502,500 for his student-athletes' academic performance. ∎ $290,000 for the football program's multi-year APR score of 973 out of 1,000 that was released this spring. (5% of his updated 2025 compensation of $5.8 million, the school confirmed, for a multi-year APR score of at least 969. This bonus would have doubled for a multi-year APR score over 974.) APR measures the eligibility and retention of each student-athlete for each academic term. ∎ $100,000 for a team GSR above 86%. (The GSR was 87%.) GSR reflects the NCAA's calculation of the percentage of student-athletes on a team who graduate within six years of entering college. ∎ $62,500 for team GPA equal to or greater than 2.80. (This is the amount Dillingham received during the 2023-24 school year, when the team GPA was 2.84. The 2024-25 team GPA is calculated after summer school. This annual bonus jumps to $100,000 for a 2.90 GPA and to $150,000 for a 3.0 GPA.) ∎ $50,000 for having between three and six new scholarship student athletes enroll in the Barrett Honors College. The Arizona State football team doubled the number of football scholarship student-athletes enrolled, adding three newcomers to increase the total to six. The group is comprised of sophomore defensive back Keith Abney II, sophomore running back Kyson Brown, freshman punter Kanyon Floyd, freshman linebacker Martell Hughes, freshman linebacker Isaiah Iosefa and freshman quarterback Cameron Dyer. How Kenny Dillingham edged Harbaugh's record bonus Harbaugh received $3 million in bonuses for the 2023-24 school year, when Michigan won the national championship, the university confirmed. Harbaugh was eligible to receive up to another $150,000 for an APR bonus, which would have kept him atop the all-time single-year bonus list, but the amount and whether it was paid were at the school's discretion, according to his contract. Harbaugh was not paid the APR bonus for that season, Michigan confirmed, because the payment is made in the spring and he had already resigned to become head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. The non-payment ensures Dillingham will receive the most bonus money in a single school year.

Apple redesigns its operating systems with ‘Liquid Glass' at WWDC 25
Apple's iPhone may not be getting a significant AI upgrade, but it is getting a fresh coat of paint. As are Apple's other operating systems. At Monday's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 25), the company announced a refreshed user interface called Liquid Glass, which features shiny, reflective, and transparent visual interface elements that give the software a more 'glassy' look and feel. Screenshot The design refresh is inspired by Apple's VR headset, the Vision Pro. It unifies the iPhone's design and that of Apple's other devices, with the interface built for the spatial computing headset. This change could also hint at a potential future that could see Apple's operating system and software extended to other surfaces besides phones, tablets, and watches — like AR glasses, perhaps. Introduced at WWDC by Alan Dye, Apple's Vice President of Design, the Liquid Glass interface represents the biggest visual update to iOS, the software powering the iPhone, since the move from the original skeumorphic design to a flat design style in iOS 7. Screenshot With skeumorphism, the idea was to translate real-world objects to the touch screen — like a Notes app that looked like a yellow legal pad. Flat design upended this visual language, opting instead for simple shapes, clean lines, a minimalist user interface, and more colorful icons. Over time, iOS's flat design evolved to have more glossy and semi-translucent layers, like a Control Center that mimicked a frosted pane of glass. Screenshot As Dye explained, the redesign includes the 'optical qualities of glass and a fluidity that only Apple can achieve.' In addition, it will respond in real time to your content and your input, creating a 'more lively experience,' Dye said. The Liquid Glass display is translucent and will behave like glass in the real world. The color of the screen is informed by your content and will adapt between light and dark environments. In addition, alerts appear from where you tap, context menus expand into a scannable list when you scroll and tap. Screenshot The design applies to both the system experiences, like the Lock Screen, Notifications, and Control Center, as well as the app icons. The company says the new icons will look like they've been crafted with multiple layers of liquid glass and will come in light mode, dark mode, and a new clear mode.
