Canadian teen Mboko extends perfect run to reach 3rd round at French Open
Toronto's Victoria Mboko extended her dream run at the French Open with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Germany's Eva Lys on Wednesday to reach the third round.
The 18-year-old Canadian hasn't dropped a set through five matches — including three wins in qualifying — and has now posted back-to-back main-draw victories at the tour level for the first time.
She improved her season record to 42-5, with most of those wins coming on the lower-tier ITF circuit, where she's captured five titles.
Ranked No. 120, Mboko will next face Olympic champion and eighth seed Qinwen Zheng of China.
In men's doubles, Montreal's Gabriel Diallo and British partner Jacob Fearnley cruised into the second round with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Colombia's Nicolas Barrientos and India's Rithvik Bollipalli. Diallo is also competing in singles and will face No. 35 Tallon Griekspoor of the Netherlands in the second round.
Fellow Canadian Denis Shapovalov, of Richmond Hill, Ont., is scheduled to face Austrian qualifier Filip Misolic in his second-round singles match on Thursday.

Free shuttle service offered for Ford Fireworks
A spectacular display of the Ford Fireworks presented by Target over the Detroit River in Windsor, Ont., Monday, June 24, 2013. (Rich Garton / CTV Windsor) Zehrs and Transit Windsor are marking the 15th anniversary of a popular community partnership by again offering free shuttle service to and from the annual Ford Fireworks. The fireworks over the Detroit River take place on Monday, June 25. With financial support from Zehrs, Transit Windsor will provide complimentary direct shuttle service from Devonshire Mall (3100 Howard Avenue) to a convenient drop-off location near City Hall (350 City Hall Square West), ensuring easy access to the downtown event. In addition, regular Transit Windsor bus service will be free across the community beginning at 6:00 p.m., making it easier than ever for residents to join in the celebration. In the weeks leading up to the fireworks, Zehrs and Transit Windsor also hosted a series of Stuff-a-Bus events. Thanks to the generosity of the community, these events collected a total of 2,860 pounds of food and $1,675. These donations will directly support individuals and families who rely on the services provided by the UHC - Hub of Opportunities. This long-standing partnership reflects a shared commitment to community engagement, accessibility, and support for those in need. Fireworks Night Shuttle: Avoid the hassle of parking and navigating downtown road closures by taking advantage of Transit Windsor's free shuttle service to the Ford Fireworks. Shuttles will depart from Sydney Avenue at Devonshire Mall starting at 6:00 p.m., providing a convenient and stress-free way to get to the event. Following the fireworks, return shuttles will operate until midnight, picking up passengers across from the former Windsor Arena on McDougall Street and returning them to Devonshire Mall. This year's fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025, with Tuesday, June 24 designated as the rain date. Further details on downtown road closures and parking will be available closer to the event night.

‘Best team in Ontario': STA girls win OFSAA AAA Soccer

(Brent Lale/CTV News London) The St. Thomas Aquinas Flames girl's soccer team knew they had unfinished business. After losing in the OFSAA AAA gold medal game in 2024, nearly the entire team returned this year for redemption. The Flames finished the job this time with a 3-2 win over Michael Power St. Joseph high school from Etobicoke in the final. 'It was like something definitely to remember,' said Tienna Martins, Flames captain. 'We worked really hard for it and especially last year when we didn't win, I thought that everyone worked super hard this year to get it back.' After going undefeated (6-0) through round-robin and playoff action, outscoring opponents 19-1, they reached the final. After surrendering a game-tying goal with just minutes in regulation, the Flames drew a penalty. It set up Bella Martins' game winning kick to bring home the title. 'We worked really hard and came out on top for WOSSAA, and then in OFSAA we came up short last year, but this year we really pushed and wouldn't accept anything less than first.' The Flames never lost a game all year but remained confident when they gave up the tying goal. 'There were definitely some hard moments in that game where we had to stick together as a team,' said Tienna. 'I think that we did it emotionally well and we ended up getting the win.' St. Thomas Aquinas Senior Girls Soccer The St. Thomas Aquinas Senior Girls Soccer Team finished their championship season with a 23-0-1 record en route to winning OFSAA AAA. (Brent Lale/CTV News London) This group of seniors finished their final season with a 23-0-1 record, winning TVRA, WOSSAA and OFSAA. They scored 131 goals and gave up just 12. 'The past few days have been crazy,' said Lucie Duffy, Flames goalkeeper. 'Realizing you are the best team in Ontario, it's been really special. Celebrating it with the group of girls as we have like 11 seniors. It's been really, really nice and really special, and the best way we could have ended it.' Fellow graduating player Ava Rogers agrees. 'As a senior was just really special,' said Rogers, an assistant captain. 'You want to go out strong and you want to come out on top. That's what we did.'
