Low-budget tours to Hong Kong have become increasingly popular among mainland Chinese visitors, especially those travelling from the nearby cities of Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Guangzhou. To get a feel for the experience, Post reporters joined one of the tours costing 79 yuan (US$11) for two people, with lunch included. The full-day trip took about 60 people by coach to eight major attractions across the city. Some tourists said they were drawn to the low cost of the tour and booked it for their first trip to Hong Kong.

Is this the end of summer US study trips for Chinese children?

For two decades, it was popular for many Chinese families to send their children on 'study tours' overseas – most often to the United States – during the summer. The programmes generally involved summer camps jointly organised by American universities and language institutions, as well as visits to colleges, museums and tourist attractions. In 2019, before the Covid-19 pandemic , around 1.3 million Chinese students spent part of their summer holidays studying overseas , according to a report by Beijing-based consultancy with the US ranked the most popular destination. The access to elite US education and an English-language environment proved to be big attractions until this year when changes in American visa policies sent a chill through families. It started last month when the administration of US President Donald Trump announced it would increase visa scrutiny of Chinese students, especially those with ties to the Communist Party or studying in 'critical fields'.

Cristiano Ronaldo to play in Hong Kong? City to host Saudi Arabia Super Cup

Cristiano Ronaldo could be among an array of big-name footballers descending on Hong Kong in August after it was confirmed the city would stage the Saudi Super Cup. The four-team tournament, involving Al-Nassr, Al-Ittihad, Al-Hilal and Al-Qadsiah, will be staged at Hong Kong Stadium from August 19 to 23. Superstar Ronaldo has spent the past 2½ years with Al-Nassr but his contract expires at the end of this month. However, after scoring his 138th international goal in Portugal's Nations League final victory over Spain on June 8, he indicated he was likely to extend his stay with the Riyadh club.
