'It's in our control. It's a great position to be here,' Jayawardene said during MI's training session on Tuesday. 'The message from me to the boys was to focus on our routines, the way we train, the way we plan, and how we've approached the tournament.'

A win over Delhi will secure MI the fourth and final playoff spot alongside Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings.
However, a loss would put their fate in the hands of other results, particularly the DC vs PBKS match on May 24.
'We've played good cricket to deserve to be in that situation. We'll go out and try and play our best game of cricket tomorrow,' Jayawardene added.
Commenting on the updated playing conditions allowing one extra hour per match to counter weather disruptions, Jayawardene remained cautiously optimistic. 'If it helps, it helps, but if you have serious rain, I don't know whether the extra hour is going to matter.
Still, everyone would prefer a game over a washout.'

On squad availability, he confirmed replacements were lined up for departing overseas players: 'Two of them — Richard Gleeson and Charith Asalanka — are already here. Jonny (Bairstow) will arrive tomorrow.'
Jayawardene praised his side's resilience: 'We were in a similar must-win scenario after being 4-1. The boys reacted well. Even in the last game, we gave ourselves a great opportunity.'

No Shubman Gill! Panesar Backs GT Batter To Be Next Superstar Of Indian Cricket
Last Updated: Former England spinner Monty Panesar has backed Sai Sudharsan to become the next superstar of Indian cricket. Sudharsan was in red-hot form for GT in IPL 2025. Former England spinner Monty Panesar has reserved big praise for 23-year-old left-handed batter B Sai Sudharsan and backed him to become the next superstar of Indian cricket. Sudharsan, who has earned his maiden India Test call-up for the upcoming five-match series against England starting June 20 in Leeds, was in red-hot form for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2025. He played 15 matches for the Shubman Gill-led side as an opening batter and, with the help of one century and six fifties, amassed a total of 759 runs. For his super show with the bat, Sudharsan won the Orange Cap in IPL 2025 and also bagged the Emerging Player of the Season award. The Tamil Nadu-based batter has played three ODIs and one T20I for Men in Blue so far, and he is now expected to play a big role for Shubman Gill & Co. in the upcoming five matches. Ahead of Sudharsan's much-awaited Test debut, Panesar, who played 50 Tests for England from 2006 to 2013 and picked up 167 wickets, said that the left-handed batter is very aggressive and fearless and could be the next superstar. 'The one thing that I want this Indian team to do is carry on the legacy of Virat Kohli. The way he played Test cricket. I would like to see the young Indian team play like that," Panesar told InsideSport. Sudharsan, who is likely to make his Test debut as a No. 3 batter, has 1957 runs to his name in 29 First Class matches played so far. He hammered a double century for Tamil Nadu against Delhi at Arun Jaitley Stadium in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season. First Published: June 09, 2025, 15:18 IST

Aaqib Javed's bold plan to transform Pakistan's cricket academies
Aaqib Javed (Image credit: PCB) NEW DELHI: Former Pakistan pacer and head coach Aaqib Javed has vowed to transform the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore into one of the most productive academies in world cricket. Aaqib, who took over as director of the NCA two months ago following his stint as interim head coach of the national teams, said he aims to make Pakistan's academies a benchmark for other cricketing nations. "We shouldn't have to look at other academies for guidance but develop our own system which other countries would look towards for guidance," he said in a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) podcast. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Aaqib revealed that he has set a six-month timeline to implement a structured system at the NCA and its regional branches in Karachi, Multan, and Faisalabad. "These academies should be run on a system where we groom and produce quality players of all age groups for the national teams and also provide players with the best rehabilitation facilities," said the former cricketer, who also serves as a national selector. He noted that while the NCA in Lahore is well-equipped, it has lacked a truly effective and productive system for years. "We are also trying to restore the biomechanics equipment and lab back at the NCA after it was outsourced by the board and dedicate the academy in Karachi only for women's cricket," he added. Bombay Sport Exchange Ep. 6: Harish Thawani on cricket's TV market and the watershed moments Aaqib, who has previously coached the UAE national team and served as Pakistan's bowling coach, emphasized that his long-standing goal has been to identify and nurture talent and to establish a system that ensures academies function efficiently, regardless of changes in PCB leadership. The NCA was established in 2002–03 during the tenure of former PCB chairman Lt. General Tauqir Zia and was later renamed in honor of the late Bob Woolmer , who served as Pakistan's head coach for four years.

India's Nets Session: Siraj Sledges Pant, Bumrah Troubles Gill, Gambhir Does This
Gambhir reportedly took guard behind the nets and observed how Rishabh Pant and newcomer Sai Sudharsan performed in the nets. During this period, Gambhir was constantly spotted speaking to Sudharsan, hinting at a much-anticipated debut for the top-order batter, who has done wonders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Gujarat Titans over the last couple of years. The IPL might be over, but Mohammed Siraj and Rishabh Pant still seemed to be playing for two different teams, considering the tenacity with which they went against each other in the nets. There were some intense sledging episodes between the two, with Siraj leading the charge. Pant, however, remained unfazed and tried to give his all in the nets to the pacer from Hyderabad, as per journalist Vimal Kumar. The BCCI selection committee's decision to promote Shubman Gill as India's Test skipper ahead of Jasprit Bumrah didn't go down well with all. Many believe Gill should've been made Bumrah's deputy, even if there was a concern over the pacer's long-term fitness and availability. In the nets, Gambhir put Gill and Bumrah against each other, forcing an enthralling battle to unfold. Bumrah bowled in the nets as if he were out to prove a point in a must-win game. Gill would often get beaten in the nets, giving another proof of the Indian pacer's supremacy over the rest of the seamers in the world. Not just Gill, Bumrah bowled to other Indian batters too, producing a long spell. But, it was against Gill that the pacer really put all he had in him into the ball. A few members of India's senior team for the England tour are also with the India A side, that is involved in an unofficial Test series against England Lions. The likes of KL Rahul, Dhruv Jurel, Nitish Reddy, Karun Nair, etc. are looking to prove their worth to the management by scoring runs for the India A side. As the second unofficial Test concludes on Monday, some India A players will join the senior team for an intra-squad match. The first match of the 5-Test series between India and England begins on June 20 in Leeds. Listen to the latest songs, only on
