In what can only be described as a batting collapse of the highest degree, Richmond's Fourth XI miserably fell short of a massive 427 target by 425 runs. As surprising as it may sound, the UK side lost all of its wickets one after the other, amassing only two runs on the scoreboard.
More surprisingly, only one of the two runs to its name was scored by a Richmond's Fourth XI player; the other was an extra, courtesy of a wide.

Richmond's bowling line-up painfully failed in its task of restricting their opponents North London CC - the side conceded 426 runs in 45 overs. The scorecard, which was later shared on social media, revealed that Richmond bowlers 'gifted' their opponents an unbelievable 92 extras in the game.

Of the 10 players that walked up to the crease to bat for Richmond, 8 departed without making any contribution; all 8 of them were dismissed for a duck. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the Richmond team could not last for more than 34 balls (5.4 overs) at the crease. This collapse of epic proportions can only be labelled a humiliation and as a rarity in the sport.
While the defeat remains a feat to forget, the team's official X handle attempted to salvage the situation.
In an attempt to defend the side, Richmond's Fourth XI posted "A lot of context but still not a result that we are proud of! Our 2's, 3's and 5's all won though!"

But not long ago, the two weren't on talking terms. Speaking to the former South African international opened up on his blunder last year, which he revealed led to Kohli ignoring him for months. But admitted that he was happy when the former India captain started talking to him again around the start of this year. De Villiers was asked about Kohli's retirement from Test cricket, and whether he drew a parallel between his decision in 2018 and that of his former RCB teammate, with both having drawn the curtains "prematurely." He then opened up about his conversation with Kohli about the same, revealing that it was only six months back that the Indian legend began talking to him again after that blunder in 2024. "I know we were in the same boat because we spoke about it. He's been in touch with me over the last six months. Thank goodness! Because I did have a bit of a footfall not too long ago when they were expecting their second child. So, I was very relieved when he started talking to me again," he said. "We all know he went through a bit of a patch and sort of wanted to bounce a few ideas off me. How did I get through certain moments of my life. So, I knew what kind of phase he was going through, considering his age and how many games he's played, and the dynamics of being in the team all the time, the politics thereof as well. There are a lot of things weigh in on you, and so I shared with him from the heart what I felt and what I thought watching him on the screen. I'm happy he is still around playing cricket and that decision comes from the heart and I support him 100 per cent with that," he added. In early 2024, Kohli had skipped the entire home series against England, citing personal reasons. The decision instantly drew criticism from experts, before De Villiers, taking to his YouTube channel, jumped to his defence, saying that Kohli was away from national duty as he and his wife, Anushka Sharma, were expecting their second child. A few days later, he sharply retracted his statement, saying that he had 'made a big mistake.' Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar on the sidelines of the then-ongoing SA20 league in South Africa, he said: "Family comes first and then Cricket. I made a terrible mistake on my YouTube channel. That information was wrong and not true at all. Virat has every right to take a break from national duties due to family reasons. I think whatever's best for Virat's family, comes first. No one knows what's happening there, all I can do is wish him well. Whatever the reason for his break, I hope he can come back stronger, better, and fresh from this." It would have remained just another nondescript village of India's vast hinterland if not for one individual – Shubman Gill. When the newly-anointed India captain walks in the India blazer to toss the coin against England in the first Test at Leeds on Friday (June 20), the village would enter into the folklore of Indian cricket. This is where Gill's cricketing journey began as a three-year-old with a wooden bat carved out of a tree trunk made by his grandfather. Gill's grandparents – Sardar Didar Singh Gill and Gurmail – still live in the house surrounded by acres of farmland. The small stretch of concrete that was built to make Gill bat and the kitchen walls still stand as a testimony to his early toil as a batter. Didar, who is nearing 90, did not want to speak. He, however, was happy and proud to show around the house and Gills' mementos and plaques.
