Pokémon-shaped Cheeto, ‘Cheetozard,' sells for an eye-watering amount at auction
A Cheeto shaped like the beloved Pokémon Charizard has sold at auction for $87,840.
The Goldin auction house listed the snack as sold on Sunday. The buyer has chosen to remain anonymous. In addition to the snack, the buyer also received a storage box and a Pokémon card. Bidding lasted nearly a month. The opening price was just $250.00. The winning bid came in on March 2.
'Presented is a 3-inch long Flamin' Hot Cheeto in the shape of the Pokémon Charizard, affixed to a customized Pokémon card and encapsulated in a clear card storage box,' the auction's description states without noting that the sale price rounds out at nearly $30,000 per inch.
'It was initially discovered and preserved sometime between 2018-2022 by 1st & Goal Collectibles. The Cheeto surged in popularity on social media platforms in late 2024.'
According to the listing, 60 bids were placed on the uniquely shaped snack. The winning bid was $72,000 plus a buyer's premium, Goldin's receives 22 percent of the final fee.
After posting confirmation of the sale on its Instagram page, Frito-Lay, owners of Cheetos, responded with the 'two eyes' emoji.
Others were less enthusiastic. 'I'm just disappointed in the world right now,' wrote one follower.
'Who the hell bought this? smh,' said another.
However, one person looked upon the Cheeto more positively.
'If I was on death row. I'd want this to be my final meal,' wrote the user.
While one sought to capitalize on the interest in food-shaped Pokemon.
'I got an onion shaped like bulbasaurs back taking offers,' the user joked as Bulbasaur is shaped like an onion.
Charizard is a fire-breathing dragon who is especially popular among franchise fans thanks to his rebellious attitude.
'Goldin specializes in rare and one-of-a-kind collectibles, and the Cheetozard is exactly this. Part of what makes this item so fun and unique is that it bridges two fandoms — Pokémon and Cheetos,' Goldin's head of consignment Dave Amerman told Today.com.
In 2017, a Cheeto that resembled Harambe the Gorilla was sold on eBay for close to $100,000.
This most recent sale has also drawn comparisons to Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan's artwork, a banana duct-taped to a wall, that sold at Sotheby's for $6.2 million in 2024.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet's free update for Switch 2 has 'never looked better'
With updated 4K visuals, ScarVi is leaving gamers with surprisingly positive first impressions. The Nintendo Switch 2 has been officially released today, with fans scrambling to get their hands on one- if there are any retailer's with stock left, that is. The gaming giant is issuing completely free updates to several games for the new console, including Zelda: Link's Awakening, Super Mario Odyssey, and interestingly, Pokémon Scarlet And Violet. The Pokémon game (or technically, the duo of games) on the original Switch has been deemed famously unappealing in the past in terms of visuals. The new update has left gamers wondering if Nintendo have managed to fix these games that Eurogamer described as 'graphical and technical disasters'. The original Scarlet and Violet game(s) has been slammed on Reddit for being 'ugly', with users also complaining of technical errors when playing. But is it possible that Nintendo have managed to fix the visual and technical problems in their updates for ScarVi the new Switch 2? According to early impressions, maybe. ScarVi looks like a completely different game on the Switch 2, according to gaming experts at Nintendo Life. They said: "Okay, granted, it's still not a particularly attractive game, but the performance looks to be running at a mostly rock-solid 60fps, while the visuals have been upscaled to 4K. That's pretty darn impressive. "Not only that, but more Pokémon can be seen in the wild at any one time, and even things like the dreaded windmill have been improved." The Pokémon Violet game for the Switch is available on Amazon for £49.99, and those with the Switch 2 will be able to download the free update. Scarlet is available for slightly cheaper at £37.99, also on Amazon, and either Scarlet or Violet are available on Argos for £37.99. Game reviewer Serebii on YouTube released an early review for the game, and said they were 'incredibly surprised' to see that many of the performance errors from the original game had been fixed in the update. They also said the visuals had seen some serious improvements. They said: "The visuals themselves have seen a bit of improvement, the colours are more vibrant even without HDR, the light bounces off the water better, and the Pokémon models have never looked better. "The particles are just great and really pop, and this is further shown when you terastallize a Pokémon, either in a standard battle or as part of a Tera raid battle." The reviewer also explained that there have been serious improvements in the definition and detail of Pokémon when viewed from far away in the updated ScarVi game. However, there were still some issues with the visuals of the game, particularly in terms of the textures of the landscape. The reviewer continued: "That said, the textural work hasn't really improved for the overworld of Paldea, so you can see more repeating textures on the cliffs in the distance. "And with the increased visual fidelity, it does make [the cliffs] a bit more clear, which may mean you'll notice the repeating a bit more." Gamers who have already got their hands on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be able to download updates for certain games including ScarVi for free, and see these enhancements for themselves. Nostalgic household items every Scottish '90s kid will remember fondly
Looking back at the toys and tech we once used shows just how much has changed since the 90s. If you grew up in Scotland during the 1990s, chances are you look back on the decade with a warm dose of nostalgia. It was a time of Pokémon cards, Tamagotchis, and the Spice Girls. Gameboys ruled playgrounds, Saturday mornings were spent watching SMTV Live, and most of us still remember the screech of a dial-up modem. While it may feel like just yesterday, the reality is that three decades have passed, and much has changed. One surefire way to feel the passing of time is to look back at the things we once used every day. From toys to tech, '90s kids were surrounded by objects that now seem like museum pieces. We have taken a trip down memory lane to revisit the household items and childhood gadgets that defined Scottish homes in the 1990s. Whether it was the ever-blinking lights of a Furby perched on your shelf or the clunky desktop computer your family gathered around, these relics of the past will take you right back. So dust off your VHS tapes and fire up your Discman, here are just some of the classic '90s Scottish household items and toys you'll definitely remember from your childhood.
