BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A convicted felon pleaded guilty to illegally possessing two firearms Tuesday.
Kelvontae Wallace, 26, of Pell City, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of machinegun, according to U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona.
Between Dec. 2023 and Jan. 2024, Wallace illegally possessed a firearm and a machinegun on two separate occasions, according to the plea agreement:
Brighton City Councilman Jerome McMullin charged with releasing video of double homicide during active investigation
Talladega police officers responded to call of a person shot at the Orange #1 gas station on Dec. 15, 2023. They arrived and found a victim lying on the ground that had been shot multiple times. Surveillance video from the store showed Wallace drive up to the store, exit his vehicle, and shoot the victim with a 'Glock switch.'
On Jan. 2, 2024, authorities went to Wallace's apartment to arrest him for warrants for first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied building, stemming from the December incident in Talladega. When officers arrived, Wallace attempted to flee, but officers caught and arrested him. They recovered a loaded weapon from his apartment.
