Mega investor Warren Buffett's impending retirement will mark the end of an era. For six decades, the 'Oracle of Omaha' has consistently beaten the market. Nifty climbs above 24,700 level; pharma shares rally for 2nd day
The key benchmark indices traded with moderate gains in morning trade, supported by buying interest amid positive global sentiment. While investors await the outcome of the RBI policy meeting later this week, they are also closely monitoring bond markets, Brent crude trends, and global trade developments. The Nifty traded above the 24,700 level. Pharma shares rallied for the second consecutive trading sessions. At 10:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex advanced 357.15 points or 0.44% to 81,355.40. The Nifty 50 index added 117 points or 0.48% to 24,730.65. In the broader market, the S&P BSE Mid-Cap index rose 0.41% and the S&P BSE Small-Cap index added 0.68%. The market breadth was strong. On the BSE, 2,420 shares rose and 1,108 shares fell. A total of 210 shares were unchanged. Buzzing Index: The Nifty Pharma index jumped 1% to 21,585.35. The index increased 1.08% for the two consecutive trading sessions. Dr Reddys Laboratories (up 2.88%), Glenmark Pharmaceuticals (up 2.46%), Zydus Lifesciences (up 1.98%), Laurus Labs (up 1.76%), Lupin (up 1.74%), Aurobindo Pharma (up 1.48%), Cipla (up 1.23%), Natco Pharma (up 0.94%), Mankind Pharma (up 0.65%) and Alkem Laboratories (up 0.61%) advanced. Dr. Reddy's Laboratories rose 2.88% after the company announced a collaboration with Iceland-based Alvotech to co-develop and commercialize a biosimilar to Keytruda (pembrolizumab) for global markets. Stock in Spotlight: CESC shed 0.09%. The company said that its subsidiary, Purvah Green Power, has signed a framework agreement with Envision Energy India for the supply and commissioning of 1 GW wind turbine generators (WTGs)

U.S. Stocks Mixed as ADP Jobs Data Misses; Trump Pressures Fed, Bond Yields Slide
Weaker-than-expected job growth and a surprise services sector contraction weighed on markets; Trump calls for rate cuts, while housing and chip stocks rally. The Dow dipped 91.90 points or 0.2 percent to 42,427.74, the S&P 500 inched up 0.44 points or less than a tenth of a percent to 5,970.81 and the Nasdaq rose 61.53 points or 0.3 percent to 19,460.49. payroll processor ADP released a report showing much weaker than expected private sector job growth in the month of May. It also said private sector employment rose by 37,000 jobs in May after climbing by a downwardly revised 60,000 jobs in April. Following the release of the ADP report, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social urging Fed Chair Jerome Powell to lower interest rates. Institute for Supply Management released a report showing service sector activity in the U.S. unexpectedly saw a slight contraction in the month of May. It also said its services PMI fell to 49.9 in May from 51.6 in April, with a reading below 50 indicating contraction. The Fed is still widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged at its next meeting later this month, with CME Group's FedWatch Tool currently indicating a 95.6 percent chance the central bank will leave rates unchanged. Broader markets showed a lacklustre performance, housing stocks moved significantly higher on the day, driving the Philadelphia Housing Sector Index up by 1.7 percent. Semiconductor stocks were considerably strong, as reflected by the 1.4 percent gain posted by the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index. Gold and pharmaceutical stocks also saw some strength on the day, while energy stocks came under pressure as the price of crude oil gave back ground following a two-day surge. Asia-Pacific stocks moved mostly higher. Japan's Nikkei 225 Index climbed by 0.8 percent while China's Shanghai Composite Index rose by 0.4 percent. The major European markets also moved upside. The German DAX Index advanced by 0.8 percent, the French CAC 40 Index increased by 0.5 percent and the U.K.'s FTSE 100 Index edged up by 0.2 percent. In the bond market, treasuries moved sharply higher in reaction to the latest U.S. economic data. As a result, the yield on the benchmark ten-year note, which moves opposite of its price, plunged 9.5 bps to 4.36 percent.

Alphabet to keep hiring engineers while AI advances
Alphabet Inc.'s Sundar Pichai said his company will keep expanding its engineering ranks at least into 2026, stressing human talent remains key even as Google 's parent ramps up AI investments. Speaking at the Bloomberg Tech conference in San Francisco, Pichai said he will continue to invest in engineering in the near future. US tech leaders like Microsoft Corp. have trimmed more staff this year, reflecting in part the enormous investments needed to ensure leadership in AI. The firings have stoked fears about the technology replacing certain job functions. Pichai stressed that the company remains committed to sending traffic to the web. 'We took a long time testing AI Overviews and prioritized approaches which resulted in high quality traffic out. I'm confident that many years from now that's how Google will work.' Pichai has led Google since 2015, when he took the reins from Google co-founder Larry Page pledging to focus even more on AI. Asked about what qualities the public can expect to see in the company's next CEO, Pichai quipped: 'Whoever is running it will have an extraordinary AI companion.' At the same conference on Wednesday, Meta Platforms Inc. Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth said that there's been a cultural shift in the Silicon Valley and it is now more palatable for the tech industry to support the US military's efforts. The company announced a partnership with defense contractor Anduril Industries Inc. last week to develop products for the US military, including an artificial intelligence-powered helmet with virtual and augmented reality features. Anduril's co-founder Trae Stephens and other industry leaders such as Perplexity AI Inc. Chief Executive Officer Aravind Srinivas will join the Bloomberg Tech summit on Thursday.
