PSG boss Luis Enrique blasts FIFA over Club World Cup pitches as he compares them to 'NBA courts full of holes' - and claims the ball has been 'jumping around like a RABBIT'
PSG manager Luis Enrique has taken aim at the quality of the pitches at the Club World Cup following the European champions qualification to the round of 16.
The French side beat Seattle Sounders on Monday to top Group B and send Atletico Madrid crashing out of the controversial competition.
Enrique's side will now take on former PSG forward Lionel Messi and his Inter Miami side in the knockout stages, but the Spaniard was far from happy following the comfortable 2-0 victory over the Sounders.
Following the match, which was played at Seattle's home stadium, Lumen Field, Enrique shared his anger at the standard of the pitch.
'I wouldn't imagine an NBA court full of holes,' said the 55-year-old. 'What I really care about is the state of the field of play, and I say this on the day we've won.
'The ball bounces almost like if it were jumping around like a rabbit.'
Enrique guided PSG to their first-ever Champions League triumph last month as his players put on a clinic to record a record final victory over Inter Milan in Munich.
However, the former Barcelona boss has now suggested that his team has to play differently in the United States due to the low quality of playing surfaces in stadiums and in training.
He continued: 'Lumen Field is an example. It used to be artificial turf and now it is natural grass and they have to water it by hand - they did so at half-time but the field was dry again in 10 minutes.
'For our game, this is a problem. It's very different from European pitches. The grass is different and therefore, it is not so easy to have the same smoothness to play our style - but we did adapt well and we're very happy.'
Enrique is not the only person to have criticised the pitches at the Club World Cup with Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham also commenting on the situation on the same night.
After scoring in Los Blancos' 3-1 win over Pachuca, which secured Xabi Alonso his first victory as head coach, Bellingham revealed just how the surfaces in the US have taken a toll on his body.
'The pitches aren't great at all,' Bellingham admitted. 'It holds the ball up. The ball barely bounces. It's tough on the knees as well. Hopefully, it's something that someone will look at, going into next year.
'It's important we protect the players as well as giving the fans a great spectacle and giving them great games like today.'
By topping Group B PSG have been rewarded with a date with Lionel Messi's Inter Miami in the last 16
Bellingham was featuring in his 61st game of what has been a longer-than-usual campaign, and while he intends to make that 66 by the end of the Club World Cup, he also can't wait to have shoulder surgery after the tournament.
The England midfielder currently plays large with a brace on his shoulder in order to get himself through matches unscathed.
However, now he wants his 'old body back' and has now 'ran out of patience' over what has been an ongoing problem over the past year.
'Yeah, yeah, I'm definitely feeling it (the fatigue),' Bellingham told Mail Sport. 'With the new kits, new managers, and new players coming, it probably kids you into thinking it's a new season.
'But you've already got 50 to 60 games in your legs and in this heat, you can definitely feel it. But the way I and the team are approaching it is that it's five more games of graft and everything we've got to try and bring home another title.'

The singer made a surprise appearance for the welcome night of Kelce's annual 'Tight End University', an NFL event for players who play the same position as the Chiefs star which also raises money for charity. After pictures first emerged of her appearance on Monday night, a clip has now been circulated that seemingly shows Swift discussing her potential future mother-in-law. 'Also blonde,' Swift can be heard saying, enthusiastically. 'I have less charm!' Swifties think the singer was discussing Donna because Kelce himself then quickly followed up by explaining why his mom wasn't there on the night itself. 'She's out working,' Kelce clearly says. The singer was sat alongside Donna in a suite at Arrowhead Stadium in September 2023 when they went public with their relationship. And since then, she often joins Travis's mom at NFL games to cheer Kansas City on. It is not clear who every person is that is gathered around Swift in the latest clip to go viral of the power couple but San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle is stood close by while Swift is talking. According to Entertainment Tonight, Swift and Kelce were happy to take on a low profile during the Monday night drinks. A source was quoted as saying: 'Taylor and Travis kept things low-key, staying mostly towards the back of the VIP area, laughing and mingling with close friends.' The source added they looked 'very much in love.'

Report: Hawks acquire Celtics' Kristaps Porzingis in 3-team trade
June 25 - The Boston Celtics are sending Kristaps Porzingis to the Atlanta Hawks as part of a three-team trade also involving the Brooklyn Nets, ESPN reported on Tuesday. Atlanta will receive the 7-foot-2 Porzingis and a second-round draft pick; the Nets get Hawks guard/forward Terance Mann and their No. 22 pick; and the Celtics gained Atlanta forward Georges Niang and a second-rounder, per the report. The Celtics, who on Monday reportedly sent two-time All-Star guard Jrue Holiday to the Portland Trail Blazers, will be out of the salary cap's second apron with the trade of the oft-injured Porzingis and save a projected $180 million in tax penalties, ESPN reported. Boston reportedly is actively involved in trade talks involving multiple players on their roster following star Jayson Tatum's Achilles tear in the second round of the playoffs. Porzingis, 29, was an All-Star in 2017-18 with the New York Knicks, who drafted him with the No. 4 overall pick in 2015. Derailed by injuries, he missed the entire 2018-19 season with a torn ACL and has played fewer than 60 games in six of his last seven campaigns. He missed the start of this past season following offseason ankle surgery. The torn medial retinaculum injury, considered "rare," occurred during the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks, which the Celtics won in five games. Porzingis averaged 19.5 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.5 blocks and 28.8 minutes in playing in only 42 regular-season games (all starts) last season. He also played in 11 playoff games (seven starts) and averaged 7.7 points, 4.6 rebounds and 21.0 minutes. For his career, Porzingis averages 19.6 points, 7.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.8 blocks and 30.8 minutes in 501 games (500 starts) for the Knicks (2015-18), Mavericks (2019-22), Washington Wizards (2022-23) and Celtics. He earned $29.2 million this season and is due to earn $30.7 million in 2025-26. The Los Angeles Clippers selected Mann in the second round of the 2019 draft. The Clippers traded Mann to the Hawks on Feb. 6. He averaged 9.8 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 22.7 minutes in 30 games (one start) for Atlanta -- all improvements over his earlier averages in 37 games (12 starts) for Los Angeles. For his career, Mann, 28, averages 8.1 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 22.1 minutes in 412 games (169 starts) for the Clippers and Hawks. The Indiana Pacers picked Niang in the second round of the 2016 draft. Niang, who turned 32 on June 17, has averaged 7.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 17.5 minutes in 544 games (32 starts). Niang has played for the Pacers (2016-17), Utah Jazz (2017-21), Philadelphia 76ers (2021-23), Cleveland Cavaliers (2023-25) and Hawks, who acquired him on Feb. 6. He averaged 12.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 23.0 minutes in 28 games (two starts) for Atlanta. --Field Level Media
