Mystical Sufi musical Jo Dooba So Paar to enchant audiences on World Music Day
Celebrating World Music Day, the city presents 'Jo Dooba So Paar,' a theatrical performance exploring Sufi mysticism through music and poetry. Rooted in Hazrat Ameer Khusrau's legacy, the production blends Qawwali, storytelling, and narration to delve into divine love and spiritual surrender. Ajitesh Gupta and Mohit Agarwal lead this immersive journey, promising a soul-stirring cultural experience. In a special celebration of World Music Day, The Kolkata Centre for Creativity will play host to Jo Dooba So Paar – A Mystical Musical Journey , a powerful theatrical performance that invites audiences to experience the spiritual universe of Sufi mysticism through music and poetry. Rooted in the divine legacy of the legendary poet and mystic Hazrat Ameer Khusrau, the production artfully blends live Qawwali, evocative storytelling, and poetic narration to explore themes of divine love, longing, and spiritual surrender. At its core lies the profound relationship between Khusrau and his spiritual guide, Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya — a bond that gave birth to the sacred musical tradition of Qawwali. Infused with traditional Daastaan-goi (oral storytelling), the performance offers rare insights into the human side of Khusrau, weaving together rich anecdotes and timeless verse to present a deeply moving portrait of devotion and creative expression. Spearheading the production is Ajitesh Gupta, a classically trained vocalist and seasoned theatre actor known for his collaborations with Gulzar, Atul Kumar, and Manav Kaul . His commanding stage presence and vocal prowess bring depth and resonance to the performance. He is joined by Mohit Agarwal, a Sangeet Visharad and experienced theatre artist from Mumbai, whose musical finesse and emotive strength further elevate the production. Jo Dooba So Paar is more than a stage performance — it is an immersive spiritual journey that encourages audiences to surrender to the rhythm of the cosmos and the eternal beauty of Khusrau's poetry. This unique confluence of theatre, music, and mysticism promises to be one of the most enriching and soul-stirring cultural experiences of the year.
