Forgotten Australian Idol winner's son, 17, is following in his musician footsteps
It appears the apple doesn't fall far from the tree when it comes to Damien Leith's musically talented family.
The 49-year-old singer rose to fame back in 2006 when he took out the honours in Channel Ten singing juggernaut Australian Idol.
Although his stardom has somewhat faded in recent years, his son Jagger is certainly following in his footsteps to the stage.
The 17-year-old, who possesses quite a marketable face and chiselled form, has already released a string of singles, with his latest track titled I Miss You dropping back in January.
He's now joining his dad on the road for a string of shows as part of Damien's Ireland Orchestrated tour.
'He wasn't even born when I was on Idol, so it's a pretty amazing thing to be on stage with him,' Damien told Woman's Day magazine.
Damien added that while Jagger's pop sensibilities might differ markedly from his love of traditional folk and rock, he is always a font of advice for his son.
'Jagger will come to me all the time when he might be stuck on a lyric, or he might want ideas for a chorus and I always help him,' Damien added.
'He'll take my ideas on board but he's a pretty independent guy. Even though I'm his dad, if he doesn't like my ideas, he'll tell me.'
And Jagger's not the only one taking after their talented father.
Damien, who also shares son Jarvis, 19, and daughter Kikki, 14 with wife Eileen Stapleton, said all three children are quite musical.
The Idol winner added he hoped that his experiences in the music industry will help hold his children in good stead in their musical pursuits.
'I'm so proud of all three of my kids, they're obsessed with singing and acting,' he said.
'I tell them it's an amazing industry, but you need a tough skin and you've got to be prepared.'
Speaking about his musical brood to the Illawarra Mercury in 2023, Damien said his was the loudest house in the street.
'It is so noisy that any particular time there could be someone singing a song from a musical, while someone else is pounding on the piano while somebody else is playing electric guitar downstairs,' he said.
'I hear the things that they're [my children are] talking about and things that they're planning and it reminds me of when I was about 17 and I'm going "wow, I can't believe that they're so taken by it all"."
Damien sprung to national attention when he was crowned winner of the 2006 iteration of Australian Idol.
He was in good company too, beating the likes of runner-up Jessica Mauboy, Lisa Mitchell, Bobby Flynn and Dean Geyer for the title.
Damien parlayed his idol success into a career that has seen him release nine studio albums, including two number ones.
Damien also picked up an ARIA for his post-Idol album The Winner's Journey as well as a Golden Guitar in 2017 for his track Call me Cray.
When he is not on stage, Damien has also worked as a radio announcer in the Hunter Valley and Wollongong.
The multi-talent is also quite the accomplished author, having penned three tomes - One More Time (2007), Remember June (2007), and The Extraordinary Misadventures of Lake and Birdy (2025)

The Project hosts ignore 'cancellation' rumours as they awkwardly fail to address reports they are getting axed
The Project made headlines this week as reports emerged the Channel Ten show is set to get the axe in favour of a new current affairs show. However, hosts Georgie Tunny, Max Rushden and Susie Youssef refused to address the 'cancellation' rumours on Friday evening. As the show closed out, Georgie, 34, told viewers they would be back on Sunday, but made no mention of claims the network will pull the plug on the show. 'That is it for tonight. Please thank Max Rushden, Susie, and we will see you Sunday,' she said, despite expectations she would announce the show's cancellation. Confused viewers took to X—formerly known as Twitter—to ask: 'Wait... is it still on?!' From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. 'I heard the project is dead?' remarked another. Reports emerged on Thursday saying The Project is set to get the axe following years of sliding ratings. Industry insiders revealed to TV Blackbox a brand new current affairs show is in development to replace the show, with a major format overhaul already in the works. Unlike its predecessor, the new program will reportedly air only four nights a week from Monday to Thursday, scrapping the low-performing Friday night edition. The Sunday edition of The Project, which has aired since 2017, is also expected to be axed, leaving a noticeable gap in Ten's early evening lineup. Sources have revealed the replacement program is being quietly prepared for a launch as early as July or August. It will be a significant shift in tone and volume, with the new show to run 30 minutes per episode, down from The Project's six-hour-per-week live broadcast format. The dramatic cut to Ten's primetime output has left some questioning how the network plans to fill the additional airtime. There is also questions about whether the savings from winding down the show's production—currently managed by Roving Enterprises—will be reinvested elsewhere. Daily Mail Australia previously revealed Ten has poached several high-profile journalists from Channel Seven. Veteran reporter Denham Hitchcock, 7News Sydney's Bill Hogan, and award-winning former foreign correspondent Amelia Brace are set to become Ten stars. The trio are believed to have signed on to front a new current affairs program backed by Ten's head of news Martin White. Amelia and Denham left Seven's Sydney newsroom within hours of quitting and began work at Ten on Monday, while Bill is expected to start in a few weeks. The departures fuel speculation Ten is preparing to launch a prime-time news show to take on Nine's 60 Minutes, Seven's Spotlight, and ABC's Four Corners. Industry sources say the new program will focus on long-form investigative stories and is currently assembling a 'crack team' of reporters and producers. A Ten spokesperson confirmed the shake-up to Daily Mail Australia, saying: 'Following the continued growth and success of our news brand 10News we are investing in an investigative unit that will work on long-form stories.'

Huge blow for Sonia Kruger as long-running television series faces the axe
Channel Seven 's Dancing with the Stars could be facing the axe. The broadcaster is rumoured to be cancelling the beloved Aussie reality series just a week before the 22nd season hits screens, leaving hosts Dr. Chris Brown and Sonia Kruger 's jobs up in the air, according to Insiders claim that the Seven network is tired of forking out large sums of money for the show's production, which is said to cost around $1million per episode. The network's tight purse strings explain why recent seasons have seen shorter production periods, now taking place over five weeks as opposed to ten weeks back in the early 2000s. This isn't the first time Dancing with the Stars has been cancelled by Seven. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. The broadcast was swiped off of Aussie screens in 2015 after viewership numbers made a swift decline. However, it was quickly picked up in 2019 by Channel Ten, who put it back down the following year. It came as a surprise when Channel Seven revisited the broadcast in 2021, with close sources revealing that a big factor in the show's return was Sonia's new role under the network's helm. The cancellation of Dancing with the Stars marks the third program hosted by Sonia, 59, that has been axed by Seven. In October last year, industry insiders claimed the popular Channel Seven star's future at the network could be up in the air. Despite the television favourite once being one of Seven's most in-demand stars, rumours circulated that may no longer be the case after changes at the network. One change included her former hosting gig on Big Brother jumping ship after the reality show moved to Network Ten in 2025 with a rebooted format and new host in Mel Trancia. Another big change for Sonia, who also hosts The Voice on Seven, was her husband Craig McPherson vacating his role as head of news and current affairs at Seven West Media in April. A Seven spokesperson rubbished the Daily Telegraph's claims that these developments had seen the star fall out of favour at the network. 'You are making things up. This is total fiction and completely wrong. To publish this rumour would be deliberately misleading,' the spokesperson said. Despite this, the publication claimed that a 'highly placed source' at Seven said that Sonia was 'vulnerable' citing her reported $1.3 million contract. 'Now Big Brother has gone, she will likely be doing less,' the unnamed source told the outlet. Representatives for the Gold Logie winner threw more water on the rumour fire, telling the publication Sonia was 'happy' at the network. 'Sonia is under a long-term contract with Seven, has not received a pay cut, and is very happy at the network.'

Comedians have the last laugh after fans were left divided over divisive MasterChef Australia episode
Australian comedy trio Sooshi Mango has had the last laugh after their divisive MasterChef Australia: Back To Win episode was a ratings triumph. On Monday night, Channel Ten 's competitive cooking series broke from tradition and instead of having illustrious guest celebrity chefs step in as judges, the comedy trio turned up instead. During an Italian cooking challenge, Sooshi Mango, comprising of Melbourne comedians Joe and Carlo Salanitri and Andrew Manfre, dressed up as Italian nonnas to render their verdicts on the chef's dishes. Despite fans being divided over the episode it was a ratings triumph, and became the show's highest rated episode of the year, attracting an impressive 1.29million viewers. Over the past year, the series has been averaging at under a million viewers making this episode an incredible victory. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the DailyMail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. Sooshi Mango took to social media to celebrate the episode's phenomenal success. 'Holy cannoli! Our episode on MasterChef recorded the highest overnight audience figures of the season so far! Reached 1.29 million people making it the biggest audience of the year!' they wrote. 'Had so much fun with everyone. Was a great day! Who thinks we need our own show?' They added that they found it amusing some viewers were 'offended' by the episode, given that they were trying to be as family friendly as possible. 'Yes!!!! We offended some people! Must have done something right then! If some people were offended by that then they would have lost their minds with the stuff the editors cut from the episode. That was as G-rated as we can get!' they wrote. Following the comedy group's appearance on Monday, fans of the show were left divided. Many enjoyed it, with one person writing on Instagram: 'Absolutely loved tonight's episode so funny, warm hearted, and fun. Thank you'. 'Tonight it was such a lighthearted episode. I loved it' another agreed while one more said 'This has to be the best episode I've seen so far'. However, others were unimpressed, with some branding the episode as a 'disaster' and a 'mockery'. 'Really? It was the worst episode I've ever watched. If they had just added them at the end or something, I would have been fine with it, but the shots during the cook were no added value,' one person wrote. 'Love Sooshi Mango and their scripted content, but this fell horribly flat like a bad soufflé,' a second added and another wrote, 'I'm clearly not the target market. Young men pretending to be old grannies is just so old and dull.' Sooshi Mango regularly parody Greek and Italian culture in their various skits, playing nonnas and 'Ethnic Dads' in their viral videos.
