Illegal route from Nepal to Gulf via Patna & Mum: 10 arrested at city airport
Mumbai: Ten Nepal nationals were arrested at the city airport in the past week, throwing up a pattern in immigration that begins with an illegal border crossing in Bihar. All 10 were trying to fly to Gulf countries on forged papers.
Police said they allegedly paid Rs 2.5 lakh each to agents back home. Two of them had got Indian passports using fake documents.
Six were intercepted by immigration officials while attempting to travel to Doha and the UAE on May 26, claiming they had been hired for jobs there. Days later, four more, who claimed to be electrical assistants and labourers, were arrested before they could board a flight to UAE. Immigration officer Radha More said the men said their agent in Nepal helped them avoid legal border crossing points and that they took a flight to Mumbai from Patna.
Foreign employment permits issued by the Nepali embassy in Delhi were forged for the racket.
Sahar police probe have found 10 Nepali nationals seeking passage to the Gulf countries had reached the city by using seven porous districts along the 601km Bihar-Nepal border to illegally gain entry into India.
An officer said police are tracking down the Nepali agents and their Indian collaborators and are ascertaining why these men chose to enter India illegally from Bihar's West Champaran, East Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Supaul, Araria and Kishanganj districts when there are legal entry points for Nepali nationals.
On May 26, six Nepali nationals—Ramekbal Mahto Dhanuk (27), Mohammad Samim Alam (23), Raki Yadav (20), Mohammad Haroon Manihar (37), Mobin Musalman (32), and Jogindra Yadav (36)—were intercepted by immigration officials while attempting to travel to Doha and the UAE, claiming they had been hired for jobs there. Three days later, four more—Jogindra Bishnu Das (24), Anish Kumar Sije Das (19), Sindhu Kumar Upendra Jha (22) and Jhagaru Ram Sobhait Das (38), who claimed to be electrical assistants and labourers—were arrested before they could board a flight to the UAE.
Immigration officer Radha More explained that any Nepali national who wishes to travel abroad for work from India has to get an NOC from the Nepal embassy in Delhi. "The four caught on May 29 produced their passports with the NOC, but a communication with the embassy revealed that its system had no data on them."
Police said the first tranche of illegal Nepali nationals was caught after immigration officer Ajay Mhatre detected irregularities in Dhanuk's documentation. "When his colleagues encountered the other five Nepali citizens travelling to the UAE and Doha, they alerted wing in-charge Ranjan Kumar. The Nepal embassy in Delhi confirmed they hadn't issued any NOC or foreign employment permit to these individuals," said an officer.
Police are looking into two alleged Nepali agents, Shakir Yadav and Ahmed, for their involvement in procurement of false documentation and whether they had assisted others in a similar manner in the past.

16 Opposition parties seek special Parliament session on Operation Sindoor, India-Pakistan tensions
Leaders from 16 Opposition parties on Tuesday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding a special session of Parliament on Operation Sindoor and its aftermath. Leaders from several parties, including the Congress, Trinamool Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Samajwadi Party, and Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), held a meeting to discuss the matter earlier in the day. Trinamool Congress MP Derek O'Brien told the media: 'The government is responsible to the Parliament; Parliament is responsible to the people. That's why we are demanding a special session of the Parliament.' Congress leader Deepender Singh Hooda said the special session should address matters from the Pahalgam terror attack to Operation Sindoor to the United States announcing a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 10. The letter said: 'There are serious questions facing the nation about the terror attack, killing of civilians in Poonch, Uri and Rajouri, the ceasefire announcements and the implications on our national security and foreign policy.' Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) was not a signatory to the letter. However, speaking about the party's absence, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said: 'Sharad Pawar is also with us. Supriya Sule is out with the delegation. When I reach Mumbai, I will speak with Sharad Pawar.' O'Brien added that the Aam Aadmi Party is also due to write a separate letter to the prime minister with a similar demand on Wednesday. At least 22 Indian civilians and eight defence personnel were killed in Pakistani shelling in India's border areas. Tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad escalated on May 7 when the Indian military carried out strikes – codenamed Operation Sindoor – on what it claimed were terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The strikes were in response to the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, which killed 26 persons on April 22. The Pakistan Army retaliated to Indian strikes by repeatedly shelling Indian villages along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir. At least 22 Indian civilians and eight defence personnel were killed in the shelling. India and Pakistan on May 10 reached an 'understanding' to halt firing following the four-day conflict. The announcement by Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri came minutes after Trump claimed on social media that New Delhi and Islamabad had agreed to the ceasefire.

Cyberabad cops arrest constable, 5 others amid bid to sell cocaine mixed with ephedrine; drug worth Rs 1 crore seized
The Cyberabad police Tuesday arrested six people, including a police constable, while they were attempting to sell drugs such as cocaine mixed with ephedrine. According to the police, the accused were intercepted near Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally while they were looking for buyers, and 820 grams of the drug, worth Rs 1 crore, was seized from them. Preliminary investigations have revealed that the alleged mastermind, Gunashekar, a serving police constable with the task force in Andhra Pradesh, proposed the sale of ephedrine for profit. Unnam Surendra, another accused, joined the scheme reportedly lured by the prospect of easy money, the police said. Along with associates Dothireddy Haribabu Reddy, Chegudi Mercy Margaret, Shaik Masthan Vali, and Devaraju Yesu Babu, they conspired to sell the drug in Hyderabad where the demand for it is high. According to the police, Surendra collected 820 grams of the cocaine-ephedrine mixture from Gunashekar in Tirupati on May 29, 2025, and then travelled to Hyderabad via Guntur. The group assembled at Jaya Nagar, Kukatpally, to distribute the contraband. On Monday, while the group was moving towards Bhagyanagar in search of potential buyers, a patrolling police team intercepted them due to their suspicious movement and behaviour. Although one of the accused attempted to flee, they were all promptly apprehended. Upon questioning and a subsequent search, the police team allegedly recovered the 820 grams of cocaine-ephedrine, along with a digital weighing machine and the mobile phones used by the accused. The seizure was conducted in strict adherence to procedures under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to identify any other individuals involved in this drug network. The investigation revealed a prior association between Surendra and Mercy, a former employee of Keerthana Finance in Kandukur, Prakasam district, officers said. Surendra had previously referred customers to Mercy for gold loans, receiving commissions for these referrals. A subsequent financial dispute arose between Surendra, Mercy, and Mercy's friend Shaik Masthan Vali concerning the repayment of a personal loan, according to N Koti Reddy, Deputy Commissioner of Police (in-charge), Balanagar zone. Dothi Reddy, a mutual friend of Surendra and a road contractor from Karlapalem in Bapatla, attempted to mediate this dispute. During the mediation, Dothi Reddy informed Mercy about the possibility of a drug deal. Mercy then discussed this with her friend, Devaraju, a private loan agent from Addanki. Devaraju reportedly claimed to have contacts in Hyderabad interested in purchasing the drug, thereby linking the transaction to their pre-existing financial disagreements, the police added.
