New York Knicks next head coach odds: Who will take over for Tom Thibodeau?

Fox Sports4 days ago

Fresh off an Eastern Conference finals berth, the New York Knicks are in search of a new head coach.
The Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday after five seasons.
And with that, the hiring process begins in the Big Apple.
Let's check out the odds for who will land the job at DraftKings Sportsbook as of June 3.
Knicks next head coach to start 25-26 regular season
Michael Malone: +125 (bet $10 to win $22.50 total)Johnnie Bryant: +400 (bet $10 to win $50 total)Jay Wright: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)Mike Budenholzer: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)Rick Brunson: +1500 (bet $10 to win $160 total)Monty Williams: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)Taylor Jenkins: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)John Calipari: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)
Dan Hurley: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)
Under Thibodeau, the Knicks made four playoff appearances in five seasons, including that trip to the East finals this season, where they lost in six games to the Indiana Pacers.
The Knicks had not made it to the Eastern Conference finals since the 1999-2000 season, where they also lost to the Pacers in six games.
Thibodeau had an overall regular-season record of 226-174 as head coach of New York. He was 24-23 in the postseason.
At the top of the oddsboard to replace Thibodeau is Michael Malone, who most recently coached the Denver Nuggets but was fired on April 8, with three games left in the 2024-25 regular season.
Malone served as head coach of the Sacramento Kings during the 2013-14 season, and lasted just 24 games into the 2014-15 season before being fired. He then arrived in Denver for the 2015-16 season and remained with the franchise for the last 10 seasons.
Malone helped the Nuggets make six straight playoff appearances from 2018-2024, winning an NBA title in 2023.
Second on the board is Cleveland associate head coach Johnnie Bryant, who is reported to be one of two finalists to land the head coaching job in Phoenix.

Washington Capitals' Spencer Carbery wins the Jack Adams Award as NHL coach of the year

Spencer Carbery of the Washington Capitals has won the Jack Adams Award as the NHL's coach of the year. The league announced the honor Saturday after members of Carbery's family surprised him with the trophy earlier in the week. Carbery is the first person to be named coach of the year in the NHL, American Hockey League and ECHL. Carbery was a runaway winner of the Jack Adams as voted on by the league's broadcasters, receiving 81 of 103 first-place votes. Winnipeg's Scott Arniel was second and Montreal's Martin St. Louis a distant third. In his second season running an NHL bench, Carbery guided Washington to first place in the Eastern Conference. He helped several players set career highs as the Capitals reached the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. 'The best thing indication is a lot of our guys had career years, and I think he's a big part of it: the way he communicates, the way he holds guys accountable, the way he can fit guys into certain roles and use their strengths,' Capitals general manager Chris Patrick said at his end-of-season news conference. 'I think the relationship between the players and the coach throughout our lineup was excellent this year.' When he was named a finalist last month, Carbery said it was an organizational award. 'I look at our entire staff and everything that they put in, our players, management to provide the players everything,' Carbery said. 'It's for my name to be there as the figurehead of the organization, but I look at that to me that's a team-nominated award of what we've done as a coaching staff, management team, our players, what they've accomplished in the regular season.' Carbery drew praise from counterparts around the league for how he got an aging roster into the postseason in his first season in Washington and took it to another level by transforming the Capitals into one of the league's top teams. 'He's turned them into a deep, four-line juggernaut that just wins hockey games,' said Tampa Bay's Jon Cooper, the longest-tenured coach in the league who won the Stanley Cup in 2020 and '21 and has made two other trips to the final. 'They do everything right. There's no egos on the team and he's found a way to coach a Hall of Fame superstar and coach players that are just surviving to be in the lineup every night and he's found a way to make it all work.' ___ AP NHL:

Phillies place Bryce Harper on injured list with wrist inflammation

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The scuffling Philadelphia Phillies suffered a blow Saturday when they placed first baseman Bryce Harper on the 10-day injured list because of right wrist inflammation before their game against the Pirates. Harper sat out Friday night's 5-4 loss to the Pirates. The move is retroactive to Friday. The two-time National League MVP and eight-time All-Star is hitting .258 with nine home runs, 34 RBIs and eight stolen bases in 57 games. He missed five games from May 26 to June 2 with a bruised right elbow after being hit by a pitch from Atlanta's Spencer Strider. The Phillies are expected to play third baseman Alec Bohm at first while Harper is out, with utility player Edmundo Sosa taking over at third. The Phillies have lost seven of their last eight games, going from leading the NL East by two games to trailing the New York Mets by 2 1/2 games entering Saturday. Philadelphia had won 11 of 12 games before the skid. Infielder/outfielder Otto Kemp's contract was purchased from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 25-year-old, who has yet to play in the majors, was hitting .317 with 14 homers, 55 RBIs and 11 steals in 57 games at Triple-A. Kemp was the International Player of the Month in April. This will be Robert's third stint of the season with the Phillies. The 30-year-old has given up one run in two-thirds of an inning over two games. ___
