Father and baby die in Melaka home, infant suffocates after dad's suspected heart attack
MELAKA, June 19 — A three-month-old baby boy died after he was believed to have been pinned under the arm of his father, who is suspected to have suffered a fatal heart attack, in an incident at Kampung Perigi Hang Tuah here today.
Muhammad Nur Daniel Nuruleffendy was found pinned beneath the arm of his father, Nuruleffendy Ibrahim, 35, who was unresponsive when his wife, Azura Abdul Malik, 40, returned home at about 9.30am.
The man's sister, Masturadiana, 33, said her brother had complained of chest pain the previous day but refused to seek medical attention.
'At the time of the incident, I was at my house opposite my brother's. Around 9.30am, my sister-in-law knocked repeatedly on my door asking for help.
'She said the baby was unconscious and had turned blue after being pinned under my brother's arm. I immediately told her to take the baby to hospital and asked the others to call an ambulance to check on my brother,' she said when met at the lobby of the Forensic Medicine Department of Melaka Hospital.
Masturadiana added that her brother, the fourth of seven siblings, was believed to have been dead for two to three hours before he was found by his wife, lying on his back on the bed.
'My sister-in-law had just returned to work today after three months of maternity leave. She had gone to the office briefly before heading home to take their youngest child to the clinic for his three-month immunisation.
'She had left early, around 6am, to send their two elder children, aged 16 and 15, to school. It came as a shock since my brother had no known illnesses, just some leg pain and gout,' she added.
Meanwhile, Bukit Katil Fire and Rescue Station operations commander Mohd Supian Md Dali said the emergency call was received from the hospital at 9.58am.
'We were informed that a male victim in his 30s had died at the scene, while his baby passed away while receiving treatment at the hospital.
'The hospital had requested a team to inspect the house for possible gas leaks, but following further investigation, it was determined that the man had likely died of a heart attack. As a result, assistance from the Hazardous Materials (Hazmat) Unit was called off,' he said. — Bernama

BUTTERWORTH, June 20 — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is finalising the investigation papers for action to be taken in court against the bus company operator involved in the accident that claimed the lives of 15 Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) students Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the investigation is now in the final stages before being handed over to the Deputy Public Prosecutor to decide on the charge recommendation. We will still take action; if he goes to the hospital we will wait,' he added. In the incident on June 9, 15 UPSI students died when the bus they were in overturned in an accident at KM53 of the East-West Highway (JRTB), near Tasik Banding, Gerik. The bus carrying 42 university students was travelling from Jertih, Terengganu to the university's main campus in Tanjung Malim, Perak when it collided with a Perodua Alza before overturning. — Bernama

Man found dead in vehicle outside Klang motorcycle shop, believed to be shot
SHAH ALAM, June 20 — A man was found dead inside a vehicle, believed to have been shot, in an incident outside a motorcycle shop in Meru, Klang, this afternoon. According to Bernama, Klang North district police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao said the authorities were alerted to the incident at 3.37pm, and when they arrived at the scene, they found the body of a 46-year-old local man in the driver's seat. Former Masterchef finalist, ex-husband jailed 34 years for maid's murder

PETALING JAYA : A Masterchef Malaysia finalist and her former husband have been sentenced to 34 years in jail after they were found guilty by the Kota Kinabalu High Court of killing their domestic worker in 2021. Etiqah Siti Noorashikeen Sulang's former husband, Ambree Yunos, was also sentenced to 12 strokes of the rotan while she was exempted because of her gender, Sabah Media reported. Ambree, a contractor, and Etiqah were charged with killing Nur Afiyah Daeng Damin, 28, at their condominium unit in Penampang between Dec 8 and Dec 11, 2021. They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which provides for the death penalty, or 30 to 40 years' jail, and no fewer than 12 strokes of the cane, upon conviction. Lim said the defence had failed to raise reasonable doubt against the prosecution's case. He said the prosecution had proven three key elements – that the victim died from her injuries, that the injuries were caused by the two accused with intent, and that the pair had acted with a common intention. During sentencing, deputy public prosecutor Dacia Jane Romanus sought the death sentence, saying the case had shocked both Sabah and the nation, and that it warranted the heaviest penalty possible. Dacia said the deceased was a young woman who had left her hometown for honest work amid the pandemic, but ended up losing her life at her workplace. She said the victim suffered daily and was denied her basic human rights. Ambree and Etiqah, who were represented by lawyers Ram Singh and Rakhbir Singh, were previously out on bail.
