IIPA invites entries for essay contest for college students
The Indian Institute of Public Administration, Puducherry unit, has extended to June 16 the deadline for submission of entries for the essay competitions for final year college students.
A press note said participants can submit completed essays of 350-500 words in Tamil and English in any one of the designated topics to iipaprbrc2025@gmail.com by the last date.
The topics in Tamil are 'Emerging challenges in Public Administration', 'Health Administration/ Management' and 'Reforms Needed for Public Administration' and those in English are 'Transforming Governance through e-governance', 'Digital Transformation and AI in Public Administration' and 'Reorienting Management Reforms for Higher Productivity'.
The contest is organised in connection with a IIPA southern regional conference on 'Administrative and Management Reforms' slated for June 26.

Paraguay president's X account likely hacked in Bitcoin scheme
Paraguay's government on Monday said that President Santiago Pena's X account had likely been hacked after the leader appeared to promote trading of cryptocurrency Bitcoin. 'The president's official X account has presented irregular activity which suggests possible unauthorized entry,' the government said in a statement. A post on Pena's account in English, with a Spanish-language statement purporting to be from the government, had declared that the Latin American country had made Bitcoin legal tender and that it would roll out a $5 million Bitcoin-backed reserve fund. The government asked citizens to ignore posts from the account until official confirmation was made available. Paraguay's national cybersecurity team was working with X to investigate the situation, the government added. X did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Demonstrate goodwill by apologising: KVS to Kamal Haasan
Dharwad: Condemning the remarks of Tamil actor Kamal Haasan regarding Kannada language, a group of senior writers, linguists and Kannada activists staged a demonstration in front of deputy commissioner's office in Dharwad on Monday. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Under the aegis of Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha (KVS), the protesters urged Haasan to show his goodwill towards Kannada and Kannadigas by tendering an apology for making the remark and hurting the sentiments of Kannada people. KVS president Chandrakant Bellad said actor Haasan had said Tamil is the root of Kannada and attributed it metaphorically to the "mother-child relationship," he said. Across Karnataka, protests and condemnations broke out in response to his statement. Even when the Karnataka high court questioned the comment and advised him to apologise to Kannadigas, the actor continues to be adamant, Bellad said. "Had a linguistic researcher or a historian of languages made such a comment, it might have carried some weight. But Haasan, who lacks any knowledge about the origin and evolution of the language had no business making such claims. When speaking about language and borders, one must exercise caution. No one should play with the emotions of the people," the protesters said. Scholars of both Tamil and Kannada have already provided documented evidence about Dravidian languages. According to linguistic experts, Dravidian languages evolved parallelly, and no language gave birth to another. The history of the Kannada language dates to thousands of years, the speakers said. Pointing out that Kannadigas have always desired a peaceful life and have shown respect toward all languages, the speakers said KVS will intensify the agitation against Haasan if he does not apologise and withdrawn his statement. Later, they submitted a memorandum addressed to the governor to additional deputy commissioner.

"You lose and say all this...not good to dismiss mandate of people": Nitin Gadkari on Rahul Gandhi's allegations on Maharashtra polls
New Delhi [India], June 9 (ANI): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday slammed Rahul Gandhi over his allegations concerning Maharashtra assembly polls, saying that the Congress leader is making such remarks after losing the polls and it is not good 'to dismiss a mandate'. 'It is not good to dismiss a mandate given by the people. You lose and now say all this,' Gadkari told ANI in an interview. Rahul Gandhi had alleged 'rigging' in Maharashtra assembly polls and called upon the Election Commission to publish consolidated, digital, machine-readable voter rolls for the most recent elections to the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabhas of all states, including Maharashtra, saying that 'telling the truth' will protect poll panel's credibility. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi, who is Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, referred to the ECI's response to his allegations concerning Maharashtra polls and said 'releasing unsigned, evasive notes to intermediaries is not the way to respond to serious questions'. Rahul Gandhi had written an article in an English daily on the issue. Election Commission sources had said that the poll panel wrote a detailed letter to Congress in December last year rejecting its 'misleading' claims about voter turnout data in Maharashtra polls and, instead of writing to the poll panel directly, Rahul Gandhi keeps speaking and writing to media seeking answers to his 'same unfounded doubts again and again'. They said it is not clear as to why Rahul Gandhi is shying away from writing to EC in person himself and get a reply. ECI sources had said that the poll panel had extended an invitation to the Indian National Congress (INC) for interaction, which was scheduled for May 15. However, the meeting was later cancelled at the request of INC itself. Gadkari also countered Gandhi's 'Narender-Surrender' jibe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Gandhi had claimed that cessation of hostilities with Pakistan following Operation Sindoor had been done with mediation of US President Donald Trump. 'The citizens of the country know our government is very sensitive to the matter, how it works, how we respond and how we protect our people. We have almost ended Naxal activities in the country. (Improved) law and order is an achievement of our government,' the Union Minister said. Asked about the tragic stampede outside Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, in which 11 people died during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations, Gadkari said Karnataka government should look into the lapses. 'An inquiry is being held into the matter. Where the lapses happened, Karnataka government needs to work on it,' the Union Minister stated. (ANI)
