ECB's Villeroy Says Another Rate Cut Is Likely by Summer
The European Central Bank will probably lower borrowing costs again by the summer as trade tensions aren't fueling inflation in the region, Governing Council member Francois Villeroy de Galhau said.
'The Trump administration's protectionism will lead to a restarting of inflation in the US, but not in Europe, which will doubtless allow for another interest-rate cut between now and the summer,' Villeroy said in said in an interview with regional newspaper group EBRA published Tuesday.

Everton have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Carlos Alcaraz from Flamengo. The Athletic reported earlier this week that Everton were progressing in talks with Flamengo and were hopeful of completing a €15million (£12.6m; $16.9m) move by the end of the month. The former Southampton midfielder made just seven league starts for Everton, scoring twice, but has impressed sufficiently for the club to want to make the move permanent. He netted the winner in the 1-0 win over Newcastle United on the final day of the Premier League season last Sunday.

Luxair challenges EU approval of Lufthansa-ITA merger
BRUSSELS (Reuters) -Luxembourg flag carrier Luxair said on Wednesday it had filed a legal challenge before the General Court of the European Union against the European Commission's approval of the merger between Lufthansa and ITA. Luxair said it has no objection to the merger itself but said that as part of the remedies offered by Lufthansa, smaller carriers like Luxair had been sidelined in the allocation of landing slots at Milan Linate airport. In November, the European Commission approved a package of remedies proposed by Lufthansa for the acquisition of a minority stake in Italy's ITA Airways, in which EasyJet, IAG and Air France-KLM would secure more routes. Lufthansa offered the remedies after winning EU antitrust approval in July 2024 to buy 41% of state-owned ITA, the successor airline to bankrupt Alitalia, for 325 million euros ($343.6 million), in a deal designed to boost its presence in the southern European market.
