Jaden Ivey return update: Pistons provide news on guard's injury status
The Detroit Pistons provided a Jaden Ivey injury update on April 26, a day before they take on the New York Knicks in Game 4.
The team announced Ivey is continuing to ramp up rehab from his broken left fibula injury, which he suffered on Jan. 1. Per a release, Ivey's activity includes "a progression of basketball shooting and skill work along with continued re-conditioning and strength work." His status will be updated again in two weeks, delaying his return to full five-on-five past the first round of the playoffs.

The Pistons trail the New York Knicks 2-1 in the first round of their best-of-seven NBA playoff series. Game 4 is Sunday afternoon in Detroit, and Game 5 is Tuesday evening in New York.
On April 10, the team revealed that Ivey had been "cleared for basketball activity and will now enter the beginning phase of a re-conditioning progression along with a continued progression of court work."

Ivey has been a fixture in the gym after Pistons practices and shootarounds over the past two weeks, participating in individual shooting drills and conditioning work.

Ivey has missed 51 games, including the playoffs, since the injury Jan. 1, when Orlando Magic guard Cole Anthony upended him while diving for a loose ball.
The injury timeline recovery for a fractured fibula is typically 4-6 months. Ivey had surgery Jan. 2, meaning he is just shy of four months since surgery.

Jaden Ivey contract
Ivey is in Year 3 of his four-year, $32.9 million rookie-scale contract signed in 2022 after he was the fifth overall pick by the Pistons out of Purdue.

Ivey made $7.9 million this season, and the Pistons picked up his fourth-year option worth $10.1 million, according to Spotrac.
Ivey is eligible for a rookie extension this summer. If no deal is reached, he would play out the final year of his rookie contract in the 2025-26 season. That summer, the Pistons would almost certainly make him a qualifying offer to make him a restricted free agent, which would allow the club to match any potential offer from another team.

This is a key report as it is clear that the Knicks and Randle were destined to be heading in opposite ways down the road, which allowed New York to capitalize on his value to add a superstar center next to Brunson. The two also reported that the Knicks were 'initially reluctant' to include Donte DiVincenzo in the deal but they decided to do so anyway to land Towns. Josh Hart is glad Jay Wright isn't interested in Knicks head coaching job, saying 'Stay retired!'
Jay Wright has no interest in being the New York Knicks' next head coach and one of his former players is relieved about that decision. Wright — who coached Villanova to two national championships, four Final Fours and 642 wins — had been mentioned as a possible candidate for the Knicks opening. NBA teams have long been fascinated to see if Wright's success in college basketball could translate to the pros. Advertisement The Knicks were a particularly intriguing choice because three former Wildcats — Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges and Josh Hart — are star players on the roster. (Apologies to Donte DiVincenzo, who was traded to the Minnesota Timberwolves last season. But he got an AT&T commercial out of it.) However, Wright told college basketball reporters Seth Davis and Matt Norlander that he is retired from coaching and wants to remain a studio analyst for CBS.
