Former Seahawk says Steelers' DK Metcalf wanted a trade to Raiders

USA Today10 hours ago

DK Metcalf is carrying the hopes of Steelers offense on his shoulders — but a former Seahawk claims he almost went to the Las Vegas Raiders instead of Pittsburgh.
On a recent episode of Da Get Got Pod, former Seahawks Mike Robinson and Marshawn Lynch joked with Raiders HC Pete Carroll about his pursuit of Seattle's players this offseason. After Lynch teased that Carroll "tried to bring everybody up out that building," Robinson chimed in with Metcalf's supposed preference:
"I know," Robinson said. "Remember, DK wanted to go there."
Carroll served as the Seahawks' head coach from 2010 to 2023 — and wasted little time trading for his former Seattle QB Geno Smith after becoming the new Raiders head coach this offseason.
It makes complete sense that Metcalf preferred a reunion with his former quarterback and head coach in Las Vegas, but the Steelers' "really aggressive" trade package for DK was likely stronger than anything the Raiders offered.

Aaron Rodgers says he's ‘pretty sure' the 2025 season with Pittsburgh Steelers will be his last

Aaron Rodgers is 'pretty sure' the 2025 season, his first with the Pittsburgh Steelers, will be his last in the NFL, the 41-year-old quarterback said Tuesday. The four-time MVP signed a one-year deal with the Steelers earlier this month after two injury-marred seasons with the New York Jets. Rodgers' base salary is $13.65 million and he could earn up to $19.5 million with incentives, according to Spotrac. 'I'm pretty sure this is it. That's why we just did a one-year deal. The Steelers didn't need to put any extra years on that or anything,' Rodgers said on 'The Pat McAfee Show.' 'This was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun and peace for the career that I've had.' Rodgers agreed to sign with the Steelers after regular conversations with coach Mike Tomlin over a few months, characterizing the decision during the team's recent minicamp as 'best for my soul.' 'It's been a long run and I've enjoyed it, and what better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL, with Mike Tomlin and a great group of leadership and great guys and a city that expects you to win,' Rodgers said Tuesday. Rodgers also explained why he hasn't disclosed more details about his recent marriage to a woman he has identified only by her first name, Brittani. 'I lived in the public eye for 20 years. I had public relationships. How did that work out? I had people leaking my home information and leaking stories that we bought a house together. I had people calling paparazzi,' he said. 'Didn't want any of that, didn't like any of that, and now I'm with somebody who's private, who doesn't want to be in the public eye, didn't sign up to be a celebrity, doesn't want to be a part of it.' Don't expect that to change when he retires either. 'When this is all done, it's Keyser Soze. You won't see me,' Rodgers said. 'I'm not going to be in the public eye.' On the field, Rodgers hopes to provide stability — at least for one year — for a franchise that has cycled through several quarterbacks since Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season. 'For this year, I'm going to give the Steelers everything that I've got and empty the tank and be super comfortable and satisfied with whatever happens,' he said.

Aaron Rodgers on 2025 season: ‘Pretty sure this is it'

It looks like Aaron Rodgers will be one and done in Pittsburgh. Earlier this month, the four-time NFL Most Valuable Player signed a one-year contract to quarterback the Steelers in 2025. And he expects this season to be the last of his career, he said Tuesday in his appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show." "Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is it," Rodgers told McAfee. "That's why we just did a one-year deal." His $13.65 million contract with the Steelers includes $10 million in guarantees but also nearly $6 million in incentives that could push the total value to $19.5 million. Rodgers will be playing in his 21st season with his third team, following the Green Bay Packers (2005-22) and New York Jets (2023-24). Rodgers, 41, wants to help the Steelers on the field, but he told McAfee he also is committed to helping other quarterbacks on the roster, especially rookie Will Howard. The two started to develop a relationship during minicamp. "I pulled him aside during one of the days and said, 'Listen, I want to help you as much as possible. But I'm not going to overstep my bounds. if you want assistance, I'm here, buddy." Rodgers made it clear he sees potential in Howard, who led Ohio State to the 2024 national championship but fell to Pittsburgh in the sixth round of the draft in April. "I was impressed by him. I thought he looked really sharp," Rodgers said. "He made a bunch of great throws. I think there's definitely some things I can help him with." The Jets, choosing a different direction under new head coach Aaron Glenn, released Rodgers in March and signed former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields. The two teams will meet in Week 1 of the regular season -- Sept. 7 in East Rutherford, N.J. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved

Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers hints at retirement: 'I'm pretty sure this is it'

Aaron Rodgers appears to be ready to hang it up after the 2025 season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. On Tuesday's episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Rodgers was asked if this year would be his last — and this was his response: 'Yeah, I'm pretty sure this is it,' Rodgers said. 'That's why we just did a one-year deal. Steelers didn't need to put any extra years on that or anything. This was really about finishing with a lot of love and fun — and peace for the career that I've had. I mean, I played 20 freaking years. It's been a long run and I've enjoyed it. And what better place to finish than in one of the cornerstone franchises of the NFL with Mike Tomlin, and a great group of leadership, and great guys, and a city that expects you to win.' Rodgers has two records to break this season before he rides off into the sunset — another bow on what has been a legendary, Hall of Fame-worthy run.
