NBA Finals Predictions: Thunder or Pacers?
Do the Pacers have a chance against the Thunder in thr NBA Finals? The FTH crew doesn't have much faith in this this series
The Oklahoma City Thunder are now one win away from winning the franchise's first NBA Finals since the franchise relocated from Seattle to Oklahoma in 2008.
The Thunder's one-two punch of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (31) and Jalen Williams (40) combined for 71 in the Thunder's 120-109 Game 5 win over the Indiana Pacers to move to 3-2 in the championship series. Gilgeous-Alexander and Williams are the first pair of Thunder teammates to each score 30 points or more in the same NBA Finals game. Williams' 40 points marked a playoff career-high and marked the third straight game that he's recorded 25 or more points.
'Nobody has their print on us winning basketball games more than Jalen Williams," Gilgeous-Alexander said Monday.
The Pacers' backs are now against the wall as the 2025 NBA Finals shifts back to Indianapolis for Game 6 and they may be down a star player. Tyrese Haliburton briefly left Game 5 after appearing to re-aggravate a right leg injury. He returned to the game, but didn't look to be 100%. He finished with four points and failed to make a field goal (0-of-6 FG, 0-of-3 3PT) in the loss. All eyes now look to Haliburton's health status as he undergoes an MRI.

Rockets officially announce contract extension with Steven Adams
Last Saturday, it was reported that veteran center Steven Adams would re-sign with the Houston Rockets on a three-year deal worth $39 million. On Wednesday, the Rockets officially confirmed that news. As his existing team, Adams was able to negotiate with Houston prior to the NBA's 2025 free agency window, which starts at the end of June. Advertisement The press release reads: The Rockets announced that they have signed center Steven Adams to a contract extension. He was originally acquired via trade with Memphis on Feb. 1, 2024, but made his debut with the Rockets this past season. In 58 games with three starts with Houston in 2024-25, Adams averaged 3.6 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 13.7 minutes per game. From the start of December, he ranked second on the team in plus/minus rating (+189). Last season, Adams ranked second in the NBA in rebounds per 36 minutes played (14.8 per) of players with at least 15 games played. He also averaged 7.5 offensive boards per 36 minutes played, which is the highest in a season by any player in NBA history with 40-plus games played. Dating back to 1996-97, the Rockets were the third team to have a total rebounding differential of 500 or better in a season. Adams also played for the other two teams (Oklahoma City in 2015-16 and Memphis in 2021-22). The deal is fully guaranteed and does not include any player or team options, per Kelly Iko of The Athletic. According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the contract is frontloaded and descends in annual value, which could be useful in future years as more members of Houston's young core land contract extensions with significant raises. Adams' deal will be worth $14.1 million in the 2025-26 season, $13.0 million in 2026-27, and $11.9 million in 2027-28, Smith reports. Rick Carlisle expects Tyrese Haliburton to be a game-time decision for Pacers in Game 6, will prep for either scenario
Indiana Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle wants to make sure all his bases are covered heading into Game 6 of the NBA Finals. With star Tyrese Haliburton expected to be a game-time decision for that contest, Carlisle will have two game plans for the game, one where Haliburton plays and one where he does not. Carlisle spoke about his strategy during an appearance on "The Fan Morning Show" on Wednesday. When asked whether Haliburton will practice Wednesday, Carlisle opted to give a more general answer about Haliburton's status. "He is going to be carefully evaluated over the next 36 hours and will likely be listed as questionable on the injury report and probably will be a game-time decision for Game 6." Advertisement With so much uncertainty surrounding the situation, Carlisle said the Pacers would prepare for both scenarios during their walkthrough Wednesday. "We have to prepare for two scenarios, one where he plays and one where he does not," Carlisle said. Haliburton sustained a right calf injury during the team's 120-109 loss in Game 5 on Monday. Haliburton was injured in the first quarter of the contest and briefly left the game. He returned to the court and played through the issue, but finished with just four points after going 0-for-6 from the field. It was easily his worst game of the playoffs. Following the contest, Haliburton said he intends to play in Game 6 on Thursday. "If I can walk, then I want to play," he told reporters. Advertisement It's unclear whether he'll be allowed to do that. Haliburton reportedly needed an MRI to determine the severity of the injury. The Pacers could opt to hold him out of Game 6 depending on the result of that MRI. If Haliburton is unable to play, it would be quite the blow for the Pacers. Haliburton has averaged 17.9 points, 9.1 assists, 5.8 rebounds and 1.3 steals in the playoffs this season. He's hit multiple clutch shots to propel the Pacers to victory in tight games. Rushing Haliburton back to the court could prove to be a costly mistake as well. An ineffective Haliburton could prove to be a liability on both sides of the floor, and the Pacers can't afford to risk a more significant, long-term injury to their star player. That puts the Pacers — and Carlisle — in an extremely difficult spot with the season on the line Thursday.

Pacers' Tyrese Haliburton a 'Game-Time Decision for Game 6', Says Rick Carlisle
The Indiana Pacers are preparing for the possibility of not having Tyrese Haliburton available to play in Game 6 of the NBA Finals, coach Rick Carlisle said in a radio interview on Wednesday morning. Haliburton has been dealing with a lower right leg injury throughout the series and it worsened during Monday's Game 5 loss in Indianapolis. Haliburton played through it for most of his 34 minutes, but failed to make a field goal in the game and Indiana lost to Oklahoma City 120-109 — falling behind 3-2 in the title series. Now facing a win-or-else scenario, there is a chance Haliburton does not play in Game 6 on Thursday. "He is going to be carefully evaluated over the next 36 hours and will likely be listed as questionable on the injury report and probably will be a game-time decision for Game 6," Carlisle said on Indianapolis radio station 107.5 The Fan. Haliburton, part of the team that won Olympic gold in Paris for USA Basketball last year, was undergoing evaluation Tuesday to determine the extent of the injury. Part of that evaluation was an MRI exam, according to a person with knowledge of the matter who spoke on condition of anonymity to The Associated Press because neither Haliburton nor the team revealed that publicly. ESPN first reported that an MRI was scheduled. After Game 5, Carlisle did not specifically say that the MRI would be part of the team's next moves in figuring out how best to proceed with Haliburton, though made clear that the Eastern Conference champions would be taking a close look at the injury. Given that it is evidently a muscular injury, an MRI is part of the typical evaluation process. [Related: One Win Away! OKC on Verge of NBA Finals Title; Can The Pacers Respond?] "We have to prepare for two scenarios — one where he plays and one where he does not," Carlisle said in the radio interview. If Haliburton cannot play, it would seem likely that the Pacers would promote guard TJ McConnell to a starting role. McConnell has been brilliant throughout these playoffs and sparked a rally where Indiana closed an 18-point deficit to a two-point difference in the second half of Game 5, before Oklahoma City pulled away again and for good. "Depending on the situation tomorrow, we may need him for significantly more minutes," Carlisle said of McConnell. Haliburton left Game 5 late in the first quarter and returned to the bench area with a wrap on his lower leg. He not only returned to the game, he played 34 minutes — but did so while missing all six of his shots and with him barely looking to shoot at all in the second half. He finished the game with seven rebounds and six assists, but only four points. It was the first time in Haliburton's career that he logged at least 34 minutes and failed to make a single field goal. The Pacers, Carlisle said, discussed not letting Haliburton play in the second half. Haliburton vetoed those plans and played 17 minutes in the second half, leading the Pacers in rebounds and assists after intermission. "I mean, it's the NBA Finals. It's the finals, man," Haliburton said after Game 5. "I've worked my whole life to be here and I want to be out there to compete. Help my teammates any way I can. I was not great tonight by any means, but it's not really a thought of mine to not play here. If I can walk, then I want to play. They understand that. And it is what it is. Got to be ready to go for Game 6." The Pacers are scheduled to practice Wednesday. It will largely be a meeting and walk-through session, Carlisle said. Game 6 of the NBA Finals will be played on Thursday night at 8:30 pm ET, in Indianapolis. The Associated Press contributed to this report. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
