Tottenham in Europa League chaos as cheeky Bodo/Glimt fans set off fireworks outside hotel at 2.30am

The Irish Sun08-05-2025

TOTTENHAM'S players had their sleep disrupted ahead of their crunch Europa League semi-final second leg by cheeky Bodo/Glimt supporters letting off fireworks.
Pyrotechnics exploded outside the team's hotel down by the waterfront in the sleepy town of Bodo up in the Arctic Circle at around 2.30am.

The disturbance happened as the Spurs squad were trying to get their rest in before the biggest game of their season.
They face Norwegian champions Glimt on their tricky plastic pitch on Thursday evening having won the first leg 3-1 last week in North London.
But they will be wary of Glimt's excellent home record which has seen the Scandinavians beat Porto, Red Star Belgrade, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Olympiakos, FC Twente and Lazio already this season.
It is not the first time Spurs have had fireworks let off by pesky home supporters the night before a European game.

The same thing happened ahead of their January Europa League group game in Hoffenheim, as well as in Marseille in the Champions League back in 2022.
Spurs' preparations had already been hit by the loss of James Maddison to a season-ending knee injury sustained in the first leg.
SunSport understands the England star has damaged his medial ligament and is facing three months on the sidelines, putting him at risk of missing the start of next season.
Boss Ange Postecoglou, who has had an unrelenting amount of injuries to deal with this term, said during his Wednesday press conference: 'He'll miss the rest of this season.

'He'll miss out but that's been a constant of our season, dealing with these things, so we'll overcome that. Everyone else from the first leg has travelled and they're ready to go.'
Captain Son Heung-min is also absent due to a nagging foot injury, but £65million striker Dominic Solanke is back fit after missing West Ham on Sunday with a quad issue.

Colin Sheridan: Life beyond Liverpool already unpredictable for Caoimhín Kelleher

A penny for Caoimhín Kelleher's thoughts. Just days after signing for Brentford AFC, Tottenham Hotspur - a team that finished last season seven places below his new club in the Premier League - sacked their manager and were immediately linked with Thomas Frank, the head coach Kelleher had just agreed to join in West London. Clubs do not 'announce' starting goalkeepers, but, like a quarterback in the NFL, the position has become the centre of gravity around which all teams are built. Any confusion on who your number one is inevitably ends in disaster. Injuries happen and doors for deputies open, just as they did with Kelleher at Liverpool, but being certain who your starting goalie is on opening day is a must for any manager. For a goalie, being certain who your manager will be is an entirely different matter. This is exclusive subscriber content. Already a subscriber? The Welshman, who joined from Swansea in 2014, was due to be out of contract this summer. SunSport revealed earlier this year that Spurs intended to take up the 12-month option on the defender's deal. And they have now triggered that clause, taking the 32-year-old's terms to June 2026. Davies has been a dependable, versatile player for Spurs in his 11 years in North London. He is now up to 358 appearances - taking him level with Darren Anderton - and is one of only 29 players to have featured in 350 or more games for the club. Davies has largely been a back-up centre-back in recent years. But he still made 17 Premier League appearances this season and 28 in total as he won his first piece of silverware for the club by helping win the Europa League last month. The midfielder transfer includes £4.2m in performance related add-ons, and is only £1m behind the club's costliest-ever player Ousmane Dembele. Like his brother Jude, Jobe came through Birmingham's academy and spent two years in the first team after making his debut in 2021 aged 16. Sunderland signed him from the Blues in the summer of 2023 and he quickly became a first team regular. Jobe started 39 out of his 40 Championship games this season, only missing one through injury and two through suspension.
