Yahooa day ago

A deer strike led to a multi-vehicle crash involving a fuel truck on the Maine Turnpike, state police said Wednesday.
Minor injuries were reported, state police said. The deer did not survive.
At around 7:13 p.m. Tuesday, troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash at mile marker 13 southbound on the Maine Turnpike in York, state police said.
An initial investigation found that the driver of a red Mitsubishi Mirage struck a deer in the center lane and the vehicle became disabled.
The driver got out of the vehicle and moved to a safe location off the roadway, state police said, as the vehicle could not be moved from its position.
Shortly after, a commercial vehicle carrying fuel crested the hill behind the crash scene and was unable to stop in time, state police said.
The truck struck the disabled Mitsubishi, causing it to be pushed into the median.
The impact also caused the commercial fuel truck to veer to the right and collide with a BMW crossover vehicle. Both the truck and BMW came to rest off the right side of the roadway.
Authorities limited southbound traffic to one lane for approximately one hour and 15 minutes while emergency crews responded to the scene.
The Wells Fire Department, York Police Department, the Maine Turnpike Authority, National Wrecker Service, and Troop K Commercial Vehicle Enforcement also responded.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.

Mitsubishi recalls nearly 200,000 vehicles due to rearview camera issue

Mitsubishi Motors North America is recalling nearly 200,000 Outlander and Outlander plug-in hybrid electric SUVs because of faulty software that could make their rearview cameras malfunction. The automaker said in a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recall report that the infotainment system inside over 198,900 Outlanders from model years 2022-2024 and Outlander PHEV SUVs from model years 2023-2025 could 'freeze or display a black screen.' That could cause the rearview camera image to 'be lost' while backing up, which could heighten the risk of a crash and make the potentially affected SUVs out of compliance with a federal regulation about rear visibility, according to the NHTSA recall report. Mitsubishi linked the problem to 'improper software programming' in the infotainment system. The recalled Outlander SUVs were produced between early February 2021 and late December 2024, while the potentially affected Outlander PHEVs were manufactured between late September 2022 and April 2025, the recall report indicated. 3 The recall for the plug-in hybrid electric SUVs because of faulty software that could make their rearview cameras malfunction. The recall 'replaces and expands' a prior recall Mitsubishi issued in May 2023, according to the NHTSA. The issue at the center of the recall hasn't led to any known injuries or deaths, the recall report said. Owners of the recalled Outlander and Outlander PHEV vehicles will get a letter in the mail about the recall toward the end of June. They will receive instructions to take their vehicle to a dealership, where it will reprogram the in-vehicle infotainment system with 'countermeasure software,' according to the recall report. The service will not cost customers anything. 3 The issue at the center of the recall hasn't led to any known injuries or deaths, the recall report said. Art Konovalov 'Vehicles previously repaired under recall 23V345 will need to have the new remedy completed,' the NHTSA noted. 'Affected customers will be notified beginning later this month, and we would encourage anyone receiving a notification to contact their local Mitsubishi Motors dealer partner – it does not need to be the dealership from where the vehicle was purchased, any Mitsubishi Motors dealership can assist – as soon as possible upon receipt of the notification to make an appointment for the software update to be applied to their vehicle,' a Mitsubishi spokesperson told FOX Business. In recent months, other automakers have recalled vehicles to address rearview camera-related problems. 3 Owners of the recalled Outlander and Outlander PHEV vehicles will get a letter in the mail about the recall toward the end of June. Volvo put some 413,000 vehicles in the U.S. under recall for a problem that could cause the backup camera image not to show in early May. More than 27,800 Polestar 2 electric vehicles from model years 2021-2025 also faced a recall last month for 'visualization issues' with a rearview camera display. In April, Porsche Cars North America recalled over 8,500 of its 2024-2025 Macan electric crossovers, citing issues that could affect backup cameras. Mitsubishi has a webpage where owners can enter a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) to see if a vehicle is subject to a recall.

The Kyza Creates A Concept To Make The M2 CS Look Tame

Khyzyl Saleem, better known as 'The Kyza,' is a sometimes controversial character. He's designed wacky cars for videogames, some of which occasionally come to life, and he's part of the TWR Supercat project that gives the old Jaguar XJS a whole new attitude far beyond anything the original creators could have imagined. Some love his work, and others hate it - something he's fine with, by the way. The same goes for BMW M cars, and the oddly styled G87 M2, in particular. So what happens when a controversial virtual render artist and designer tries to improve one of the most controversial designs of the modern era? Perhaps somewhat surprisingly, something racier than even the new M2 CS, yet also something more elegant. It sounds like a contradiction, and it is to a degree, but just look at what The Kyza has dubbed the M2-KS. It's hardcore, yet stylish. Back in 2016, BMW created the 2002 Hommage Concept for its annual Villa d'Este showcase, which, as its name implies, paid tribute to the brilliant 2002, which arrived in 1971 (though the 02 series of cars with smaller engines had been around since 1966). With his new render, Saleem has maintained most of the underlying structure of the G87, but in replacing the box flares that come standard on the M2, he's also widened the track. This widening has been applied to the front and rear fascias, too, and that's how the 2002 influence is injected; new shrouds for the headlights create a sleeker, more aggressive look. The squared intake vents and false rear vents have been swapped for more angular and aggressive pieces, and the sides of the car gain additional vents and intakes. Finally, a wider and larger set of concave 827M wheels fills he arches in the same bronze as current CS-badged Bimmers. The NACA duct on the hood, the vents behind it, the massive rear spoiler, and the excessive vents along the side of the vehicle (and even below the taillights) are too much for BMW to ever embrace, but something must be said for how much better the M2 can look with some softer lines. Someday, the eventual replacement for the G87 will have a cleaner look, with inspiration from the Vision Neue Klasse concept. Until then, all we can do is wait. Unless, of course, The Kyza gets enough interest in this look. After all, his Live To Offend bodykit brand has brought wild interpretations of the E36 to life, as well as the E30. BMW enhances production efficiency with advanced Virtual Factory

The BMW Group is advancing its Virtual Factory initiative, with production planners enhancing applications across digital twins of over 30 production facilities to streamline global production planning. The company reports that processes which previously took several weeks for real-world adjustments and testing can now be accurately simulated within the Virtual Factory framework. To prepare for upcoming vehicle launches, the BMW Group plans to integrate more than 40 new or updated models into its global production network by 2027, starting with virtual simulations to ensure stability at the manufacturing sites. The implementation of the Virtual Factory is expected to lead to a reduction in production planning costs by as much as 30%. Virtual planning is integral to the BMW Group's iFACTORY strategy, employing a variety of tools that connect building, equipment, logistics, and vehicle data, alongside 3D simulations of manual processes. This integration is said to create digital twins for all BMW Group plants globally. Using an industrial 3D metaverse application developed on Nvidia Omniverse, real-time simulations facilitate the virtual optimisation of layouts, robotics, and logistics systems. The Virtual Factory is continuously evolving, incorporating generative and agentic AI capabilities, stated the company. For each new product launch, it is critical to ensure compatibility with the production line and to prevent any potential collisions. Within the Virtual Factory, this verification process is automated, utilising construction data and 3D scans. The simulation of vehicle movement and rotation through production lines allows for automatic collision checks, reducing the time required for this process from nearly four weeks to just three days. Previously, identifying potential collisions necessitated the manual guidance of a physical vehicle body through production lines, often requiring extensive weekend work. In the paint shop, this process sometimes involved emptying and cleaning dip coating tanks, resulting in significant costs and time commitments. The BMW Group's Virtual Factory is rapidly expanding its capabilities, which now include automated collision checks, human simulations for optimising manual tasks, and automated mapping of surroundings from existing 3D scans to enhance smart transport systems. Last month, the BMW Group announced that it is enhancing its exploration of all-solid-state battery (ASSB) technology by incorporating large-format ASSB cells from Solid Power into its test vehicle, the BMW i7, which is currently being tested in the Munich area.
