
Fire crews tackle blaze at derelict Sheffield Ski Village
Firefighters have tackled a blaze at a derelict ski village in Sheffield.South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said it was called to Sheffield Ski Village in Neepsend at about 17:45 BST on Wednesday.A service spokesperson said about 10m x 10m of ski slope matting was involved, with the fire thought to have been started deliberately. The ski village closed after it was destroyed by fire in April 2012 and has been repeatedly targeted by vandals.
In December, Sheffield City Council confirmed it had received £19.4m of Levelling Up funding to help develop the site.

Sheffield's Netherthorpe set for 20mph speed limit
A 20mph (32 km/h) speed limit is set to be introduced on roads in a city suburb following a public have recommended Sheffield councillors approve plans to cut the speed limit in Netherthorpe as part of the authority's strategy to improve road safety in residential areas.A report to be considered by councillors said that, so far, 65 "sign-only" 20mph areas had been introduced in Sheffield, in addition to 12 child safety zones, with a further six schemes currently under report noted that there had been an "unusually low" response to the public consultation over the Netherthorpe proposal, with only three emails in favour of the proposal and two against. According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, the report stated that the low number of participants in the consultation could be "for a number of reasons"."Having looked at the address data, the area is predominantly flats/HMOs, and we tend to receive less interest in schemes (except for parking schemes) from student areas," it council said it was aiming to reduce the frequency and severity of collisions, lower people's fear of accidents, and encourage more sustainable City Council's transport, regeneration and climate policy committee is expected to make a final decision next Wednesday. Surrey men fined after Lincolnshire hare coursing incident

Two arrests and birds seized in Bradford in cockfighting probe
Two men have been arrested and several cockerels seized from six properties in Bradford in connection with an investigation into animal man was arrested on Wednesday on suspicion of causing an animal fight to take place and taking part in an animal fight, while another man was arrested on suspicion of being present at an animal fight, according to West Yorkshire RSPCA confirmed its officers had joined police as warrants were carried out at six addresses in Bradford and two addresses in Burton-upon-Trent and Warrington as part of the investigation.A "number" of cockerels were removed during those operations and placed into the care of the RSPCA, a spokesperson said.
