Residents seek more waste bins for better waste mgmt in lanes

Ranchi: Residents of several densely populated neighbourhoods, including Hindpiri, Tharpakna, Lalpur, Nagra Toli, Bariatu, Karbala, Chutia, and Morabadi have raised concerns over poor waste management in their areas.
The inner lanes and residential colonies continue to suffer due to the absence of enough waste bins, they allege.
The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has installed around 300 pairs of green and blue dustbins across major city roads since May. Residents claim the move has failed to cover the inner high-density areas that generate substantial amounts of daily household and commercial waste.
"In Hindpiri, a dustbin is not visible even after three or four lanes. People end up dumping waste at random corners, which attracts stray dogs and emits foul smells," said Zubair Alam of Hindpiri
A similar situation prevails in Tharpakna and Lalpur, which houses shops, hostels, and apartments.
"Every morning, heaps of garbage are dumped near homes. Sanitation workers often skip the inner lanes," said Neha Kumari of Tharpakna.
Assistant municipal commissioner Niharika Tirkey, said, "Waste bins installed along the main roads are cleaned between shift changes, from 6amto 2pm and 2pm to 10 pm. In inner lanes, our focus is on door-to-door waste collection to prevent dumping."

Post-sunset, the situation gets worse, with garbage spilling onto roads," said Manoj Kumar, a shopkeeper near Nucleus Mall.
"Public hotspots see the most garbage after 6 pm. Food wrappers, plastic cups, and leftover meals pile up. Authorities should ensure additional bins or extra pickups in the evening," said Anamika Dey of Morabadi.
Residents are demanding that the municipal body conduct a fresh survey focusing on inner streets and not just arterial roads. "We are taxpayers, too. Our colonies should not be left behind when it comes to basic sanitation," said Pradeep Tiwari of Chutia.
