An 11-day NEPA review? Interior just did that.

E&E News27-05-2025

The Trump administration on Friday signed off on a uranium mine in Utah after just 11 days of review, a move that critics argue is illegal and undercuts the nation's bedrock environmental laws.
The Interior Department approved an updated plan — originally filed in 1981 — for the Velvet-Wood uranium and vanadium mine in eastern Utah as part of the Trump administration's process for fast-tracking mining, oil and gas projects.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum in a release declared the decision 'groundbreaking' and a 'first-of-its-kind expedited review' that clears the path for developing critical minerals amid a national energy emergency. 'By streamlining the review process for critical mineral projects like Velvet-Wood, we're reducing dependence on foreign adversaries and ensuring our military, medical and energy sectors have the resources they need to thrive,' said Burgum.

Interior last month laid out a process for shortening National Environmental Policy Act reviews of simpler projects to 14 days but allowing 28-day reviews for more complex proposals. The process typically takes two years. The agency based the announcement on President Donald Trump's declaration of an energy emergency.

NWSL's Angel City wears T-shirts reading `Immigrant City Football Club'

Angel City, the National Women's Soccer League team based in Los Angeles, distributed T-shirts to fans on Saturday that proclaimed 'Immigrant City Football Club.' Members of the team and the coaching staff also wore the shirts before their game Saturday night against the North Carolina Courage in solidarity with immigrants in the city who have been targeted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. The back of the shirts said 'Los Angeles is for Everyone' in English and Spanish. The team said some 10,000 shirts were distributed. Protests over President Donald Trump's immigration policies broke out in Los Angeles a week ago. National Guard members and Marine troops have been sent into the city and dozens of similar protests have broken out nationwide. Last week Angel City issued a statement on social media addressing the protests. "We are heartbroken by the fear and uncertainty many in our Los Angeles community are feeling right now,' it said. "At Angel City, we believe in the power of belonging. We know that our city is stronger because of it's diversity and the people and families who shape it, love it and call it home." The players' unions for the NWSL and the WNBA also expressed solidarity with families 'facing fear, hardship, and uncertainty tied to immigration.' "We stand with all people seeking safety, dignity, and opportunity, no matter where they come from or where they hope to go,' the NWSLPA and WNBPA posted jointly. 'Every person deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. We know not every situation is simple. But offering compassion should never be up for debate.' ___ AP soccer: Anne M. Dozens of Marin GOP members celebrate Army's 250th birthday with pancake breakfast

Dozens of members of the Marin GOP gathered in San Rafael bright and early on Saturday to celebrate the Army's 250th birthday and President Trump's birthday. "Let's just have a breakfast, let's have people come out, casual, people talk, get to know each other," John Turnacliff, the chair of Marin GOP, told CBS News Bay Area. He said members of the group are feeling optimistic about the Trump administration. "Everybody I talked with when we're asked, 'Are you getting everything you expected from President Trump being elected?' I would say, 'I'm getting everything I expected, and way more,'" Turnacliff said. "I absolutely love what America stands for. I believe it's worth fighting for," Julie Zeller, a member of the Marin GOP, told CBS News Bay Area. She has also been following recent developments of protests against the Trump administration. "I definitely agree in free speech, and that is one of the beauties of our Constitution and what our founding fathers gave us. I absolutely agree with them voicing their dissatisfaction with how things are going. I do not agree with any violence whatsoever, that very much concerns me," she said. She, along with other members of the group, said they are feeling energized, and during times of tension, want to find solutions of unity and not division. "I'm a believer that it takes two wings to fly a straight course. You need a right wing, and you need a left wing. And right now, we just have a left wing and we're going in circles on a lot of issues," Frank Drouillard, the treasurer of Marin GOP, said. "They oppose everything Trump. They oppose everybody that supports Trump, and I think that is very sick for our country." Members of the Marin GOP group said they will continue to show their support for Mr. Trump, nearly 3,000 miles away.
