The beneficiaries hail from EWS, middle-class as well as affluent backgrounds. BJP sources said this was an attempt to highlight the party's 'inclusive development agenda'.
Corner Office
Former cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba, recently appointed as a full-time NITI Aayog member, will soon move into a corner office at the think-tank's Parliament Street office. It is learnt that Gauba has been allotted room number 241, which has been undergoing renovation for several days now, on the second floor. He will be the only NITI Aayog member to sit on this floor; the Vice Chairman and other members occupy offices on the first floor. Gauba currently works out of the fifth floor.

Former president APJ Abdul Kalam's Aadhaar card and passport are among the truckloads of personal papers his family is donating to the National Archives. Kalam's family members will personally hand over the private papers to archives officials this week. Also among the documents are his speeches and the birthday greetings he received from world leaders. The National Archives has private papers of several other eminent figures including Mahatma Gandhi.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla ensured that his constituency, Rajasthan's Kota, hosted the Under-20 National Wrestling Championship. He has called it an attempt to unearth young talent who can bring glory to the country. According to the chief of the Rajasthan Wrestling Association, Rajiv Dutta, over 800 wrestlers from 26 states and UTs participated in the competition held last week.

RSS's farmers body criticises NITI Aayog for its suggestion of lowering tariffs on agriculture imports
New Delhi The Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS), an affiliate of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), on Saturday (June 14, 2025)condemned the NITI Aayog's recommendation under the proposed Indo-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in which the think tank has suggested that India should lower tariffs on the import of agricultural produce such as genetically modified crops (soybean and corn) from the U.S. In a recent paper, NITI Aayog had also suggested negating tariffs on the poultry and dairy sectors. Currently, GM food crops are under judicial scrutiny in India and, hence, banned at present. Terming the recommendations as a risky step for 70 crore Indians dependent on agriculture, the All India General Secretary of BKS, Mohini Mohan Mishra, asked why NITI Aayog was trying to get involved in the tariff battle with America at a time when the Union government is looking at self-reliance in the production of oilseeds. '.... reducing the import duty of edible oil is a contradictory decision in itself,' said Mr. Mishra. He added that the NITI Aayog should reconsider their recommendations and prepare to move forward on the basis of the self-reliance policy of the government. Questioning the report's suggestions in favour of import of GM soy and maize, Mr. Mishra said that it is well-known that in America the crops are used as fodder for livestock. 'If the government's policy supports us in pulses and oilseeds, then the farmers of the country are ready to make India self-reliant. In such a situation, it is not good for India if the think tank bows down to someone's pressure. If the NITI Aayog does not trust the capability of the country, then the government must seriously reflect on the working of the organisation,' added the BKS general secretary.

Five foreign educational institutions seeking to set up campuses in India get letters of intent
Union Minister of Education Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday (June 14, 2025) handed over letters of intent to five foreign educational institutions that had expressed interest in setting up campuses in India. The institutions are Aberdeen University of Scotland, University of York in the U.K., Illinois Institute of Technology in the U.S., Western Australia University and IED, a design institute from Europe. These institutions will have their campuses at the 'international education city' that is being planned in Navi Mumbai. The initiative is in line with the National Education Policy 2020, which allows foreign universities to establish campuses in India. 'India can be a global knowledge destination. We have simplified the regulations. We are enabling joint degrees, dual and twinning programs, academic credit mobility and institutional autonomy. Our approach is clear, open, inclusive, ambitious and confident,' Mr. Pradhan said at the event held in Mumbai. In his speech, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke of more plans for the State. 'This EduCity is in the vicinity of New Mumbai Airport. Apart from EduCity, we are creating a MediCity, we are creating a SportsCity, and also the one which we are yet to announce formally is our Innovation City. This Innovation City will be a one of its kind, playing host to the innovation ecosystem,' Mr. Fadnavis said. In a media interaction later, Mr. Fadnavis told reporters that decisions regarding hiring, affirmative action and admission processes will be taken by the authorities of the universities and the State government would not intervene in that.

Urgent checks on AI's 787 fleet: Aviation minister
NEW DELHI: Air India's Boeing 787 Dreamliner fleet is undergoing urgent safety checks following the June 12 crash, civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu said Saturday, while promising "all necessary steps" to strengthen aviation safety. We are on track to complete the remaining 24 within the regulator's timeline," the airline said. AI warned of possible delays on long-haul routes due to extended turnaround times. "Customers will be duly notified about any delays. They are advised to check the status of their flights before heading to the airport," the airline said. Addressing his first presser since the tragedy, Naidu said Modi govt had set up a high-level committee led by Union home secretary Govind Mohan to examine the crash and recommend long-term aviation safety reforms. The committee was announced after Modi visited the crash site Friday. Naidu said the panel will not interfere with ongoing investigations but will focus on systemic reforms to prevent future disasters. Airports Accident Investigation Bureau is conducting the primary probe. The committee will work in parallel, identifying the root cause and contributing factors, including mechanical failure, human error, and regulatory lapses. The panel will also draft updated SOPs, benchmarked to international practices. Its report is due by Sept 13. "The black box has been recovered," Naidu said, adding that decoding the data will clarify what went wrong. "On Ahmedabad-London flight, pilot gave a Mayday call to ATC just after take-off. ATC responded, but there was no reply from the cockpit. It crashed 2km from airport," he added. Meanwhile, Air India CEO Campbell Wilson announced, "Air India will be making an interim payment of Rs 25 lakh to each of the families of the deceased and also to the survivor. This is in addition to Rs 1 crore already committed by Tata Sons."
