This is the second year of the Gotham TV Awards, which broke away from the film awards last year to align with the Emmy cycle. But don't look too deeply into the results to help with your Emmy predictions. While Adolescence, The Studio, and The Pitt are all in the top two in the Gold Derby odds in their respective categories, the Gotham winners in each category are determined by juries of four or five people, and the acting categories aren't gendered.

The Gotham Awards also presented seven tributes at the ceremony. Two creator tributes were given out to Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk and Étoile duo Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino. The cast of The Handmaid's Tale received the ensemble tribute. Brian Tyree Henry, who was also nominated for his performance in Dope Thief, was honored with the performer tribute. Sheryl Lee Ralph received the Sidney Poitier Icon Tribute, David E. Kelley took home the visionary tribute, and Parker Posey was given the legend tribute. Posey was introduced by her White Lotus costars Leslie Bibb and Sam Rockwell, who riffed on her character Victoria Ratliff's much-imitated Southern accent.
"Thank you, Mike White, for writing this character for me, for believing in a middle-aged woman, and believing in a legend," Posey said in her speech. "Thank you, HBO, for believing in a legend!"

From Viral Ad To $8 Soap: How Sydney Sweeney Turned Fan Obsession Into A Marketing Goldmine
A limited-edition soap reportedly containing a small amount of Sydney Sweeney's bathwater will go on sale for $8 this week. The Emmy-nominated "Euphoria" star partnered with men's grooming brand Dr. Squatch to launch Sydney's Bathwater Bliss. The campaign originated from a Dr. Squatch advertisement featuring Sweeney in a bubble bath promoting the brand's natural body wash. Originally released in October, the video went viral and sparked a wave of social media memes and comments centered around the idea of her bathwater. Don't Miss: Maker of the $60,000 foldable home has 3 factory buildings, 600+ houses built, and big plans to solve housing — Invest where it hurts — and help millions heal:. 'You kept asking about my bathwater after the @drsquatch ad... so we kept it,' she wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday announcing the soap launch. The product's description markets it as blending the outdoors and Sweeney's bathtub, with ingredients like pine, Douglas fir, and a 'touch' of her bathwater labeled as one of nature's finest aphrodisiacs. The brand announced a limited run of 5,000 units of Sydney's Bathwater Bliss, set to go on sale on June 6. To build hype ahead of the release, Dr. Squatch is distributing 100 bars through a pre-launch Instagram giveaway contest, according to People magazine. Targeting Gen Z men, a key demographic for Dr. Squatch, the brand has heavily invested in TikTok advertising, spending $3.6 million in the first eight months of 2021, according to Marketing Dive. This campaign continues that trend, leveraging social media buzz and limited availability to generate anticipation ahead of the product's release. Trending: The launch of Sydney's Bathwater Bliss sparked mixed reactions across the internet. Reddit users debated the ethics and hygiene of using real bathwater in a commercial product, with threads questioning the limits of celebrity branding and personal fluid use in skincare. "Fans always joke about wanting my bath water... I was like, this is just such a cool way to have a conversation with the audience and give them what they want," Sweeney told GQ. She described the soap as having an outdoorsy scent of pine, earthy moss, and fir—also known as the brand's signature Morning Wood fragrance—mixed with some city bath water. "There's no playbook for turning Sydney Sweeney's actual bath water into a bar of soap," Dr. Squatch Senior Vice President of Global Marketing John Ludeke said in a statement to The New York Times. "But that's exactly why we did it." He added that the goal was to spark conversations about men's personal care campaign draws on a history of provocative celebrity product stunts that captured public attention. Gwyneth Paltrow's 2020 launch of the 'This Smells Like My Vagina' candle, made headlines and sold out quickly. In 2019, internet personality Belle Delphine generated over $90,000 in profits after selling jars of her so-called "GamerGirlBathWater' at $30 a piece. Sydney's Bathwater Bliss builds on past instances of bold celebrity branding—leveraging star power, limited supply, and unconventional marketing to spark viral interest and strong consumer demand. 2025 Emmys Animated Series Predictions
Variety Awards Circuit section is the home for all awards news and related content throughout the year, featuring the following: the official predictions for the upcoming Oscars, Emmys, Grammys and Tony Awards ceremonies, curated by Variety chief awards editor Clayton Davis. The prediction pages reflect the current standings in the race and do not reflect personal preferences for any individual contender. As other formal (and informal) polls suggest, competitions are fluid and subject to change based on buzz and events. Predictions are updated every Thursday. Why the TV Community Is 'Curious, but Not Yet Committed' Outstanding Animated Program Commentary (Updated: June 5, 2025): After seven acclaimed seasons and more than 50 Emmy nominations, 'Big Mouth' could finally claim the trophy for Outstanding Animated Program with its eighth and final installment. Since its 2017 debut on Netflix, the irreverent adult comedy has pushed boundaries with its bold mix of raunchy humor and heartfelt exploration of puberty, identity and growing up. With Maya Rudolph already a four-time Emmy winner for her role as Connie the Hormone Monstress and a voice cast that includes 222 star-studded guests, the show has become a cultural force in animation. Nick Kroll has also been making the rounds, giving heartfelt interviews that have garnered headlines and increased awareness for the show. Netflix is also juggling the former winner, 'Arcane,' and the new series 'Devil May Cry,' which could also break through and dominate the category. The last time a network or studio picked up three nominations in this category in the same year was 2012 — Fox's 'American Dad!,' 'Bob's Burgers,' and 'The Simpsons' — which all lost to Nickelodeon's 'The Penguins of Madagascar.' Speaking of Fox, they'll have the record-breaking 'The Simpsons' in the mix, which holds the record for most nominations (33) and wins (12) in this category, that could come in and take it home once more. There's also a pathway for Paramount's 'Star Trek: Lower Decks' to also nab a spot, which has been close on a few times, but hasn't received recognition yet. The Emmys eligibility period ends on May 31. Nomination voting runs from June 12 to June 23, with official nominations set to be announced July 15. George Wendt's cause of death has been revealed weeks after his sudden passing. The 'Cheers' star, famous for playing barfly Norm Peterson in all 11 seasons of the beloved NBC show, died from cardiac arrest, according to the death certificate obtained by TMZ on Thursday. The certificate also reportedly lists congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, and hypertension as underlying causes. 12 George Wendt as Norm Peterson on 'Cheers.' Wendt's loved ones confirmed to The Post that the TV icon died 'peacefully in his sleep' on Tuesday, May 17, at age 76. 12 The star starred in the beloved NBC sitcom all 11 seasons. WireImage 'George was a doting family man, a well-loved friend and confidant to all of those lucky enough to have known him,' the family rep's told The Post in a statement. 'He will be missed forever. The family has requested privacy during this time.' Wendt, who earned six Emmy nominations for Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Norm, made his final few public appearances in 2024. In August of that year, he reunited with his 'Cheers' co-stars Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson on their podcast, 'Where Everybody Knows Your Name.' He seemed happy to be in the company of his famous colleagues and even addressed how he landed the role in the sitcom that ran from 1982 to 1993. 12 The show's Boston bar was where 'everybody knows your name.' 'I am sending all my love to Bernadette and the children. It is going to take me a long time to get used to this. I love you, Georgie.' 12 After Wendt's death, Ted Danson told The Post he was 'devastated.' It was impossible not to like him. As Carla, I was often standing next to him, as Norm always took the same seat at the end of the bar, which made it easy to grab him and beat the crap out of him at least once a week. I loved doing it and he loved pretending it didn't hurt. What a guy! I'll miss him more than words can say.' Despite 'Cheers' ending after 11 seasons and 28 Emmys, Wendt's character lived on. He went on to play Norm in two 'Cheers' spinoffs: 'The Tortellis' and 'Frasier,' as well as shows like 'The Simpsons,' 'Family Guy,' 'Wings,' and more. Wendt starred as himself on 'Seinfeld' and 'The Larry Sanders Show,' and was featured as a recurring character on 'The Naked Truth' and 'Sabrina the Teenage Witch.' Wendt is survived by his wife, actress Bernadette Birkett; their children Hilary, Joe and Daniel; and his stepchildren, Joshua and Andrew.
