Who are the defending champions at Wimbledon?
Barbora Krejcikova of the Czech Republic and Carlos Alcaraz of Spain. Krejcikova got past Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 2-6, 6-4 for her second Grand Slam title and first at the All England Club. Alcaraz beat seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic 6-2, 6-2, 7-6 (4) to win his second consecutive trophy at the grass-court major — defeating Djokovic each time — and fourth Slam title overall, a total Alcaraz now has raised to five at age 22.
Who are the top seeds at the All England Club?
Aryna Sabalenka is the top-seeded woman, and Jannik Sinner is the top-seeded man. They are the players who are ranked No. 1, and the tournament seedings — which were officially released Thursday — follow the WTA and ATP rankings. For the women, French Open champion Coco Gauff is No. 2, Jessica Pegula No. 3 and Paolini No. 4. For the men, Alcaraz is No. 2, Alexander Zverev No. 3 and Jack Draper No. 4.

Other basic facts about the grass-court Grand Slam tournament
Wimbledon is played outdoors on grass courts at the All England Club in southwest London; there are retractable roofs at Centre Court and No. 1 Court. Women play best-of-three-set matches with a first-to-10 tiebreaker at 6-all in the third; men play best-of-five with a tiebreaker at 6-all in the fifth. Unlike at the other three major tennis tournaments — the U.S. Open, Australian Open and French Open — there are no night sessions; there is an 11 p.m. curfew at Wimbledon. This is also the last Grand Slam event with 14 days of competition; later this year, the U.S. Open will join the Australian Open and French Open as a 15-day event that begins on Sunday instead of Monday.
What is new this year at Wimbledon?
The All England Club will use electronic line-calling during matches for the first time, replacing line judges. That puts Wimbledon in line with the Australian Open and U.S. Open, leaving the French Open as the last major with humans making in or out calls — at least as of now. Another change in 2025: The times for the two singles finals are moving later, with both now starting at 4 p.m. (11 a.m. ET).

That is reflected by all the recruiting services, including ESPN. ESPN ranks the Notre Dame class as the No. 3 class in the country, and 14 of Notre Dames' 21 commits ranked inside the latest ESPN300 rankings. Advertisement There is a new highest ranked Notre Dame commit in the ESPN rankings, as cornerback Khary Adams jumped up 39 spots and is now ranked as the No. 29 overall player in the country. Adams is also now the No. 2 ranked cornerback in the entire nation. Next up on the list is North Carolina defensive end Rodney Dunham, who ranks No. 57 overall in the ESPN rankings. Dunham is ranked as the No. 6 overall defensive end. Fellow North Carolina edge Ebenezer Ewetade ranks as the No. 237 overall player in the country. Safety Joey O'Brien ranked as the nation's No. 103 overall player by ESPN, although that ranking is still way too low for a player that should be a consensus Top 50 recruit. Florida cornerback Ayden Pouncey is also in the ESPN300, checking in as the No. 167 overall player, giving the Irish three secondary commits in the 2026 class. Tennessee cornerback Chaston Smith being ranked as a three-star by ESPN might be the biggest oversight on the list. Georgia wide receiver Bubba Frazier is ranked as the nation's No. 266 overall player while Florida quarterback Noah Grubbs checks in as the No. 162 overall player. Dodgers left-hander Kershaw strikes out 5, moves closer to 3,000 career strikeouts
Associated Press DENVER (AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw inched closer to 3,000 career strikeouts on Thursday, fanning five in six innings in a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies. Kershaw (4-0) has 2,997 strikeouts in his 18-year career, three short of becoming the 20th major leaguer to reach the milestone. The 37-year-old would be the third active pitcher to reach the mark behind Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer. Verlander, in his 20th season, has 3,468 strikeouts. Scherzer has 3,412 in 18 seasons. 'I knew I had eight to go,' Kershaw said. 'Eight in Colorado is never going to be easy to do. I felt good. But pitched well, got through six. A chance to strike out three at home would be really cool.' Kershaw's next start is expected to come at Dodger Stadium next Wednesday (July 2) against the Chicago White Sox. 'He's certainly competing, making pitches,' manager Dave Roberts said. 'I think he has gotten better each time out, even with not the best of stuff. He just found a way to be efficient.' Kershaw struck out three in the first two innings Thursday and got his fourth for the final out of the fifth. He struck out Tyler Freeman for the second out of the sixth inning and left the game after retiring the next batter. He threw 69 pitches, 41 for strikes. 'You always want to be efficient, no matter what,' Kershaw said. 'My days of throwing 115 pitches is probably over. Getting through six is probably the biggest thing at Coors Field. 'Doc (Roberts) is doing a good job of protecting me, which I appreciate. I just want to be able to go back out there every fifth, sixth day. Whatever that means is good for now.' Kershaw recorded two strikeouts on his 73 mph curve and got three more on sliders against a Rockies' lineup that included all right-handed batters. 'He did what he needed to do,' Roberts said. The three-time NL Cy Young Award winner and 10-time All-Star received plenty of crowd support in Colorado, getting a standing ovation from some in the Coors Field crowd when he left the mound after the sixth inning. Kershaw had made eight starts this season after being activated from the injured list May 17 following offseason left knee and foot surgeries. 'He has given us a shot in the arm,' Roberts said. 'We're sort of ailing on the starting pitching side. Coming in and giving us valuable innings. I just love that kind of edge that he gives on start day. We certainly feed off that.' Kershaw won his fourth straight game, and his ERA dropped to a season-low 3.03. ___ AP MLB: recommended

Top Penn State Recruiting Targets Commit to Notre Dame
Top Penn State Recruiting Targets Commit to Notre Dame originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The college football recruiting scene has not been kind as of late to Penn State. In the past week the Nittany Lions lost two of their top recruiting targets. Class of 2026 players Khary Adams (four-star) and Joey O'Brien (four-star) both committed to play at Notre Dame. The two are both ranked in the ESPN top 200 recruits list for their class. O'Brien and Adams each had Penn State listed in their top choices, prior to their official commitment. Joey O'Brien O'Brien is listed as the No. 4 defensive back in the class of 2026 according to ESPN. He is listed at at 6'4" and weighs in at 185 LBS. His speed and wide range of motion got him on the Irish's radar, as well as Penn's. The Nittany Lions were looking to add some more safety depth, after losing starter Kevin Winston Jr., who got drafted 82nd overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2025 NFL Draft. Advertisement Winston was highly touted after his 2023-2024 sophomore season. In his junior season this past year, he went out week two last season with a torn ACL against Bowling Green. This opened the flood gates for someone new to make an impact. Sophomore A.J. Harris had no problem in doing that. He helped there be little to no fall off when Winston jr. went down. Penn State finished considered as a top-10 defense, and Harris' draft stock climbed. On a "way too early" mock draft ESPN's Jordan Reid had Harris landing in the first round, getting drafted 18th overall by the Minnesota Vikings. With Harris being back in the safety stable this season, and Penn landing another highly praised player from the transfer portal in the same position, King Mack (Alabama). It leads to the question is this position really a vital need for Penn? They seem to think so, because they swung and missed on another top DB recruit in the class of 2026. Khary Adams Adams was ranked as the No. 68 overall prospect by ESPN, and the 8th ranked cornerback. On June 20 he made his commitment to Notre Dame official. With NIL playing a massive part in getting top tier talent, Penn State may be trending in the wrong direction. While the team who flatlined their chances of a national championship last year, seeming to be trending upwards. Advertisement On June 22 Offensive tackle, Grayson McKeough (four-star) commited to Notre Dame . He had Penn State among his final choices, but the top rated tackle, like O'Brien and Adams opted to play for the Fighting Irish.
