How to Have Sex director Molly Manning Walker will head up this year's jury for Cannes' Un Certain Regard sidebar.
The British filmmaker, whose debut feature won the section's top prize in 2023, will be joined on the jury by French-Swiss director Louise Courvoisier, whose Holy Cow won Un Certain Regard's Youth Award last year, Italian filmmaker Roberto Minervini, the 2024 ex-aequno best director winner for The Damned, Argentinian actor Nahuel Pérez Biscayart (120 BPM), and International Film Festival Rotterdam director Vanja Kaludjercic.

'It's such an honour to return to Cannes as the President of the Un Certain Regard Jury,' Walker said in a statement. 'This selection will forever hold a special place in my heart. Being a part of it really changed my world. I can't wait to discover the films at the epicentre of new cinema. Right now more than ever I feel that cinema is so key to bringing us together and allowing us to feel, to connect with each other. To escape, wonder and learn about each other. I'm excited to go on this journey with the other Jury members as I know it will be one hell of an adventure escaping into these filmmakers' worlds.'
The five-member jury will be tasked with awarding prizes for Cannes' main sidebar, which highlights emerging voices and formally adventurous work. Guan Hu's Black Dog won the Un Certain Regard prize for best film last year.
This year's program includes 20 titles, and is packed with directorial debuts, including Scarlett Johansson's Eleanor the Great, starring June Squibb; Harrison Dickinson's Urchin, the first time behind the camera for the Babygirl and Triangle of Sadness star; and Akinola Davies' My Father's Shadow, starring Slow Horses actor Sope Dìrísù.
The 2025 Un Certain Regard sections will open on Wednesday, May 14, with Promised Sky from Tunisian director Erige Sehiri.
The 78th Festival de Cannes will runs from May 13 to May 24.

LONDON — David Beckham, the former England soccer captain who has been an ambassador for the U.N. children's fund for two decades, will receive a knighthood in next week's honors list from King Charles III, according to media reports Friday. Without citing sources, the BBC said Beckham is set to receive further recognition for both his soccer career and his contributions to British society. The knighthood would make Beckham 'Sir David' while his wife since 1999, former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham, would become 'Lady Beckham.' In 2003, Beckham was awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to soccer. Victoria Beckham got the same honor for services to the fashion industry in a later New Year Honours list. Honors are awarded twice a year, once at New Year's and then in June to mark the king's birthday. They are mostly made on the recommendation of the government, though the monarch has input too. Prime Minister Keir Starmer's office would not confirm the reports, as is custom. Buckingham Palace declined to comment. The Associated Press has not been able to independently confirm the awarding of the knighthood, which The Sun newspaper first reported. In video footage published by The Sun from the Chelsea Flower Show earlier this month, the king is seen asking Beckham if he 'received his 50th birthday present.' The king appeared to say, 'I'm glad it got to you,' with Beckham responding: 'It was incredible, thank you. It was very kind.' Beckham is the only English soccer player to score in three World Cups, and his illustrious career included the treble-winning campaign of 1999, when Manchester United won the Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. With 115 appearances for England's national team, Beckham is third on the all-time list. He also captained the side on 59 occasions. After leaving Manchester United in 2003, Beckham played for Real Madrid, Los Angeles Galaxy and Paris Saint-German. He now co-owns the MLS team Inter Miami. His career wasn't always a high, though. After the 1998 World Cup in France, Beckham was widely vilified for his petulant kick of Argentina player Diego Simeone, which saw him sent off. Many fans blamed him for England's exit. In the 2023 Netflix documentary series 'Beckham,' he described the abuse he experienced, which included an effigy of him hanging from a noose outside a London pub. 'I knew it was bad at the time, but going over that whole thing was quite a tough one,' he told the AP. The four-part documentary series about Beckham's life and professional career scored him an Emmy in 2024 for outstanding documentary or non-fiction series. Beckham has been a style icon and celebrity and has been a prominent supporter of charities, including UNICEF, which created 'The David Beckham UNICEF Fund' in 2015 to mark a decade's partnership between the two. Beckham also played a pivotal role in London being awarded the Summer Olympic Games in 2012.

Sources told the BBC, Sky Sports and The Times about the plan Thursday night. Beckham, 50, will take on the title of Sir, while his wife, Victoria Beckham, will be known as Lady Beckham. Beckham, who has long served as an ambassador for the King's Foundation and UNICEF, was first nominated for knighthood in 2011. The Inter Miami co-owner, who retired from soccer in 2013, was appointed as an OBE -- Order of the British Empire -- in 2003. Beckham appeared in 115 games for the England men's national team. He was captain during 59 of those appearances. He is the only English men's player to score at three different World Cups. Beckham also won six Premier League crowns while at Manchester United before starring at Real Madrid and moving to the MLS to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy. He later spent time with AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. King Charles, 76, was born Nov. 14, 1948, but will celebrate his official birthday at June's traditional Trooping the Color ceremony. Inter Miami co-owner and Manchester United legend David Beckham will be granted knighthood as part of King Charles' birthday honors list, according to multiple British media reports. And his former Spice girl wife, Victoria, will be known as Lady Beckham. Beckham, who turned 50 last month, was the longtime captain of England's national team, has been involved with many global charities and was appointed an officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003. BBC Sport and The Times reported that Beckham will be rewarded for his soccer career and his contributions to British society next week, when the list of knighthood recipients is announced. He reportedly was first nominated for knighthood in 2011. Beckham played a key role in London landing the 2012 Olympics and has been an ambassador for Unicef since 2005. He appeared in 115 games for the English national team, and helped lead Manchester United to six Premier League titles, including the treble in 1999. After leaving Manchester United, he played for Real Madrid, L.A. Galaxy, Paris St-Germain and AC Milan. He is only English player to score at three World Cups. He retired in 2013 and announced a year later that he was launching an MLS team in Miami. He partnered with brothers Jorge and Jose Mas to form Inter Miami, which played its inaugural season in 2020 and in 2023 signed former FC Barcelona stars Messi, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, and later added Luis Suarez. After a long search for a stadium site, Beckham and the Mas brothers are now constructing the 25,000-seat Miami Freedom Park stadium adjacent to Miami International Airport. It is scheduled to open for the 2026 MLS season.
