CNN reveals how people really feel about Trump's response to LA riots

Daily Mail5 hours ago

CNN 's top data analyst revealed how Americans really feel about President Donald Trump 's approach to immigration after the president sent federal troops to Los Angeles in the face of violent riots. 'This is Trump's net approval rating on immigration,' Harry Enten said on air Monday while comparing his -21 approval rating in June 2017 to his current +1 rating on the issue. 'It's gone up like a rocket now versus eight years ago during Trump's first term,' he explained.
'There is no issue on which Trump is doing so much better than he was in his first term more than the issue of immigration. ' The comments came after riots and looting gripped Los Angeles over the weekend, triggered by immigration raids that resulted in dozens of arrests of what authorities said were illegal migrants and gang members.
Around 300 National Guard troops were deployed to the city, spurring anger and fear among many residents. Enten said that 'Donald Trump is eager to take on this fight,' citing two CBS surveys showing that LA locals are largely fed up with how their city and state has handled immigration.
'Trump is above 50 percent and his actions are above 50 percent,' the data chief said. 'The American electorate believe that the Democrats don't have a clue on the issue of immigration,' he added, mentioning California Gov. Gavin Newsom and LA Mayor Karen Bass .
A poll from CBS News conducted from June 4 to June 6 found that 54 percent of Americans approve of Trump's plans to deport all of those in the country illegally, Enten continued. Another 51 percent said they supported agents searching their respective towns for suspected illegal aliens.
Enten also produced three polls that all showed a clear preference for Republicans when it comes to trusting a party to handle immigration. 'No matter what poll you look at, no matter which way you cut it, the American public is with the Republicans, the American public is with Donald Trump,' he said.
Trump said the National Guard was necessary because Gov. Newsom and other Democrats have failed to quell recent protests targeting immigration agents. House Speaker Mike Johnson, a staunch Trump ally, endorsed the president's move, doubling down Trump's recent criticisms of California democrats and their cooperation with his orders.
Former Vice President Kamala Harris, who lives in Los Angeles, said the immigration arrests and Guard deployment were designed as part of a 'cruel, calculated agenda to spread panic and division.' As of writing, some 60 arrests have been made.

US-China trade talks to resume for a second day

LONDON, June 10 (Reuters) - Top U.S. and Chinese officials will resume trade talks for a second day in London on Tuesday, hoping to secure a breakthrough over export controls for goods such as rare earths that have threatened a global supply chain shock and slower economic growth. Investors are hoping that the two superpowers can improve ties after the relief sparked by a preliminary trade deal agreed in Geneva last month gave way to fresh doubts after Washington accused Beijing of blocking exports that are critical to sectors including autos, aerospace, semiconductors and defence. The talks come at a crucial time for both economies, with customs data showing that China's exports to the U.S. plunged 34.5% in May, the sharpest drop since February 2020, when the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic upended global trade. While the impact on U.S. inflation and the jobs market has so far been muted, the dollar remains under pressure from U.S. policymaking. The two sides met at the ornate Lancaster House in the British capital on Monday to discuss disagreements around the Geneva deal, and are due to resume talks early on Tuesday before both sides are expected to issue updates. The U.S. side is led by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, while the Chinese contingent is helmed by Vice Premier He Lifeng. The inclusion of Lutnick, whose agency oversees export controls for the U.S., is one indication of how central rare earths have become. China holds a near-monopoly on rare earth magnets, a crucial component in electric vehicle motors. Lutnick did not attend the Geneva talks at which the countries struck a 90-day deal to roll back some of the triple-digit tariffs they had placed on each other. Trump's often erratic policymaking on tariffs has roiled global markets, sparked congestion and confusion in major ports, and cost companies tens of billions of dollars in lost sales and higher costs. The second round of meetings between the two sides comes four days after Trump and Xi spoke by phone, their first direct interaction since Trump's January 20 inauguration. Following the call Trump said Xi had agreed to resume shipments to the U.S. of rare earths minerals and magnets, and Reuters reported that China has granted temporary export licenses to rare-earth suppliers of the top three U.S. automakers. But tensions remain high over the export controls, after factories around the world started to fret that they would not have enough of the materials they need to keep operating.

Donald Trump brands Greta Thunberg a 'young, angry person' in blistering attack

Donald Trump also suggested Greta Thunberg should take "anger management classes" following the Swede's emotional SOS video after her aid boat Madleen was intercepted Donald Trump took aim at Greta Thunberg in a savage rant - branding the climate campaigner a "young, angry person" with "anger issues". The President slammed the activist's attempt to provide Palestinians with aid on the British-flagged boat Madleen, which Israeli forces intercepted in the early hours of Monday. During which, a video emerged on X (Twitter) showing Greta, 22, appealing for help from the Swedish government. ‌ The campaigner, who was travelling with 11 other activists from across the world, has now reportedly been locked in a cell in Israel and will appear in court later today. However, Mr Trump showed no mercy as, in an interview with reporters today, he claimed Greta should attend "anger management classes". ‌ "Well, she's a strange person. She's a young, angry person. I don't know if it's real anger — it's hard to believe, actually... I saw what happened. She's certainly different," Mr Trump said. The bullish President continued: "Anger management — I think she has to go to an anger management class. That's my primary recommendation for her." It is believed Mr Trump had a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. Although the world leader, 78, did not confirm if Greta came up in that conversation, he referenced "other problems" Israeli faces. Shaking his head as he spoke, Mr Trump said: "I think Israel has enough problems without kidnapping Greta Thunberg. Is that what she said? She was kidnapped by Israel?" ‌ Madleen was seized by Israeli forces in "international waters," thought to be the western fringes of the Mediterrenean Sea. The activists had travelled for several days on the yacht in the hope they would reach the Gaza Strip to support stricken communities. Yet, once the ship was stopped, the Israeli Foreign Ministry described it as "a selfie yacht". It said: "The yacht is claiming that it is delivering humanitarian aid. In fact, it is a media gimmick for publicity (which includes less than a single truckload of aid) - a 'selfie yacht'." Greta, from Stockholm, is yet to respond to these remarks, as it is understood she has been locked up in an Israeli jail cell and will appear in a court for "illegal migrants" later today. Others onboard the ship have been - or are due to be - sent home to their home countries, authorities in Israel said. Maria Malmer Stenergard, the Swedish Minister of Foreign Affairs, said on Monday that she believes Greta is not in need of support from the ministry after the climate activist called on followers to pressure the government into action.

Doechii wins Best Female Hip Hop Artist to kick off 2025 BET Awards before speaking out against Trump

Doechii won her first BET Award for Best Female Hip Hop Artist on Monday night, using her acceptance speech to address the unrest over ICE raids in Los Angeles. The 26-year-old Tampa rapper (born Jaylah Ji'mya Hickmon) beat out Cardi B, Doja Cat, GloRilla, Latto, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Rapsody and Sexyy Red for the award, during the ceremony at the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles. She took to the stage to accept her award, thanking the BET network, adding, 'This is my first BET Awards, so this means a lot to me.' 'I grew up watching this. I want to acknowledge all of the girls in my category that worked hard, extremely talented and very creative. You ladies are amazing. So, thank you, BET, for honoring me with this,' she added. Her speech turned serious, though, after that, addressing the protests in downtown Los Angeles over mass deportations and ICE raids, which President Donald Trump responded to by deploying the National Guard in a controversial move. 'But as much as I'm honored by this award, I do want to address what's happening right now outside of the building,' she said to applause. Her speech turned serious, though, after that, addressing the protests in downtown Los Angeles over mass deportations and ICE raids, which President Donald Trump responded to by deploying the National Guard in a controversial move 'There are ruthless attacks that are creating fear and chaos in our communities in the name of "Law & order." Trump is using military forces to stop a protest,' she added. 'I want you all to consider what kind of government it appears to be one every time we exercise our democratic right to protest, the military is deployed against us,' she added. 'What type of government is that? People are being swept up and torn from their families, and I feel it's my responsibility as an artist to use this moment to speak up for all oppressed people,' she said to more applause. 'For black people. For Latino people, for trans people. For the people in Gaza. We all deserve to live in hope and not in fear. I hope we stand together. My brothers and my sisters, against hate, and we protest against it. Thank you, BET!' she concluded. 2025 BET Awards Winners Album of the Year $Ome $Exy $Ongs 4 U - Drake & PartyNextDoor 11:11 Deluxe - Chris Brown Alligator Bites Never Heal - Doechii Cowboy Carter - Beyoncé Glorious - GloRilla GNX - Kendrick Lamar Hurry Up Tomorrow - The Weeknd We Don't Trust You - Future & Metro Boomin Best Female R&B/Pop Artist Ari Lennox Ayra Starr Coco Jones Kehlani Muni Long Summer Walker SZA Victoria Monét Best Male R&B/Pop Artist Bruno Mars Chris Brown Drake Fridayy Leon Thomas Teddy Swims The Weeknd Usher Best Group 41 Common & Pete Rock Drake & PartyNextDoor FLO Future & Metro Boomin Jacquees & Dej Loaf Larry June, 2 Chainz, The Alchemist Maverick City Music Best Collaboration '30 For 30' - SZA Feat.
