LTIMindtree CEO Debashis Chatterjee retires early; Venugopal Lambu takes charge amid leadership confusion
Debashis Chatterjee
, chief executive officer (CEO) and managing director (MD) of IT firm
LTIMindtree
, has opted to retire due to personal reasons effective May 30, six months before his term ends on November 13 this year.
Venugopal Lambu
, currently the CEO Designate, has been appointed CEO and MD of
LTIMindtree
with effect from May 31, the sixth-largest IT services company by revenue, said in a statement.
The decision was taken at the board meeting of the
Larsen & Toubro
(L&T) subsidiary at its 29th annual general meeting (AGM) on Friday. Lambu has also been appointed as a director on its board with effect from May 31, 2025, up to his original date of appointment as director, i.e. January 23, 2030, the statement added.
Before rejoining LTIMindtree, Lambu served as the CEO of talent recruitment firm Randstad Digital, the $3 billion digital arm of Randstad. Lambu, who has previously worked at LTIMindtree from October 2020 to January 2023, was appointed CEO designate in January this year.
Lambu's comeback is seen as a strategy to stabilise the ship at LTIMindtree, which has seen a series of over 10 senior executive exits over the past two years, especially after its formation in November 2022.
Chatterjee led the newly formed LTIMindtree after serving as CEO and MD of Mindtree from 2019 until its merger with L&T Infotech.
'Debashis Chatterjee has been working closely with Mr. Venu Lambu to ensure a seamless leadership transition, facilitating continuity and strategic alignment as the company moves forward,' the statement added.
The Mumbai-based software services provider reported subdued financial numbers over the past quarters, with the fourth and final quarter of FY25 ending March seeing its profit rise 2.5% on a revenue growth of 9.9% at Rs 9,772 crore. The quarter was helped by foreign exchange gains arising from the rupee's weakness against the dollar. The overall business demand continued to be impacted by macro uncertainties and cautious client spending, along industry lines.
For the full year, its net profit declined 1.7% to $544 million, while revenue grew 4.8% to $4.5 billion.
LTIMindtree's order book for the January-March period declined marginally to $1.6 billion from the previous quarter's $1.68 billion, but improved from $1.43 billion a year earlier.
This month, LTIMIndtree clinched its largest-ever deal -- a $450 million, seven-year engagement with a global agribusiness player.

J-K: Lavender gave small town Bhaderwah a national identity: Union minister Jitendra Singh
'Bhaderwah, once a quiet hilly town, is now a beacon of India's rural startup revolution. Lavender has not just added fragrance to these mountains, it has added identity, income, and inspiration,' Singh said. Inaugurating a two-day Lavender festival 2025 organised by CSIR-IIIM Jammu in Doda district's Bhaderwah town, the minister of state in the Prime Minister's office lauded the Agri-Startup model of Lavender farming as a transformative force that has rewritten the narrative of entrepreneurship in remote and hilly terrains. Jammu, Jun 1 (PTI) Lavender has given the small Jammu and Kashmir town of Bhaderwah a national identity and also a national role in India's economic growth, Union Minister Jitendra Singh said on Sunday. He said this single mission has answered multiple challenges and busted the myth that startups are limited to IT or require foreign degrees. 'Our youth in Jammu and Kashmir, in collaboration with CSIR-IIIM, have shown that passion, perseverance, and learning can build sustainable ventures rooted in agriculture,' he said. The minister proudly shared that young entrepreneurs in Bhaderwah are earning an average of Rs 65 lakhs annually through lavender cultivation and value-added products, motivating many others to leave conventional jobs and pursue farming as a lucrative business opportunity. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing Bhaderwah and the Purple Revolution to the national stage. 'When the Prime Minister dedicated nearly 10 minutes in his 'Mann Ki Baat' to talk about this Lavender mission in detail, it gave the best possible global introduction to Bhaderwah — one that we could not have imagined,' Singh said. The Minister emphasised that it was Modi's vision of StartUp India and StandUp India, announced from the ramparts of the Red Fort, that ignited the entrepreneurial spirit in regions that previously needed long explanations to justify their existence on the developmental map. He revealed that there are currently 50 distillation units operational in Bhaderwah, with lavender-derived products being supplied to markets in Maharashtra and other states. The model has not only attracted attention from neighbouring states like Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, but also from the North-Eastern states, whose representatives were present at the festival to gain first-hand insights, he said. 'This is a new paradigm the world is witnessing – a rural, agriculture-based startup revolution that is both scalable and sustainable,' he remarked. Another myth that Singh addressed was the misconception that StartUps are only for the young. He shared that a special exhibition featuring 60 plus age group entrepreneurs will be showcased in the next edition of the festival. Drawing a broader economic context, Singh said, 'India has moved from the fifth largest to the fourth largest economy, and sectors like lavender cultivation will further fuel our rise. These unexplored areas, when empowered, will become pillars of value addition and employment generation.' He also addressed skepticism around India's economic resilience amid aggressive defence postures. 'Despite challenging times and operations like Sindoor, India's economy has not only remained buoyant but also grown. That is a fitting reply to skeptics,' he asserted. Singh praised director CSIR-IIIM Zabeer Ahmad and his team for organizing an unprecedented event in Bhaderwah that drew visitors from all over India. He invited everyone to visit the lavender fields over the next 10–15 days during peak bloom and hear directly from the entrepreneurs themselves. Passenger vehicle sales remain flat in May amid sluggish demand
Agencies Representational Image Sales of cars, sedans and utility vehicles remained largely flat last month, albeit on a high base, amid sluggish consumer demand in the local market. As per initial industry estimates about 352,000 passenger vehicles were sold last month, which is an increase of about 0.1% over the same period last fiscal. Automakers in India mostly report wholesale dispatches from factories to dealerships and not retail sales to customers. Retail sales are estimated to have dropped by 0.8% in this period, industry insiders said. A senior industry executive who did not wish to be identified said, 'There is pressure in the market. But we also have to remember that the base is now very high. India is one of the very high markets in the world which is selling more than 4 million passenger vehicles annually. So even if the growth is modest, and is likely to remain so for some time, volumes are still good.' Demand in the local market continued to be driven by SUVs last month, with companies like Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) and Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) clocking robust sales numbers. Market leaders Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai did not release sales numbers for May Sunday. Homegrown auto major Mahindra, in fact, continued to maintain its lead over rival Tata Motors in May, powered by demand for its range of utility vehicles. Mahindra sold 52,431 units last month, which is an increase of 21% over 43,218 units sold in May 2024. At Tata Motors, sales fell by 11% to 41,557 units in the same period. Nalinikanth Gollagunta, CEO, Automotive Division, M&M, said, 'Thanks to continued demand for our products, we were able to deliver industry-leading growth across our ICE and BEV portfolio.' Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) reported an increase of 22% to sell 29,280 units last month. Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President, Sales-Service-Used Car Business, said, in line with overall market trends, the company's MPV and SUV segments continued to be the primary growth drivers—reflecting a clear shift in customer preference towards versatile mobility options.'With the onset of the monsoon and forecasts indicating a normal to above-normal season, we remain optimistic about improved market sentiment in the coming months, particularly across rural and semi-urban regions. This, backed by our vast product portfolio and innovative campaigns, we are well-positioned to maintain this growth trajectory', Wadhwa informed. Kia India and JSW MG Motor saw sales grow by 14% (to 22315 units) and 40% (to 6304 units), respectively. In the two-wheeler segment, demand remained healthy with Chennai-based TVS Motor Company reporting sales increase of 14% at 309,287 units in May. Sales of commercial vehicles was subdued. Market leader Tata Motors saw sales fall 9% to 25,872 units in the month under review. In the farm equipment sector, Mahindra sold 38,914 tractors last month, which is an increase of 10% over Veejay Nakra, President – Farm Equipment Business, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, 'Early advancement of above normal Southwest monsoon should bode well for kharif sowing. Land preparation activities are progressing well for paddy sowing. Approval of hike in MSP for Paddy and other kharif crops will bring positive sentiments among farmers. Better reservoir levels , Government announcement of record foodgrain production and introduction of various schemes will help farmers aim higher productivity going forward and in turn augur well for tractor demand.' Kiri Industries' net loss widens to Rs 85 crore in Q4, revenue drops
Kiri Industries Limited, a dye and chemical maker, has announced that the company posted a net loss of Rs 84.6 crore during the quarter (Q4 FY25), which is much higher than the Rs 9.6 crore loss it reported in the same period previous fiscal (Q4 FY24). Revenue also declined by 6.5 per cent, falling to Rs 205 crore in the last quarter of FY25 from Rs 219.3 crore a year ago, according to its stock exchange filing. Despite the disappointing earnings, the company made a major announcement along with the financial results. Kiri Industries has signed a Share Purchase Agreement (SPA) with Zhejiang Longsheng Group to sell its entire 37.57 per cent stake in DyStar, a global dyes and chemicals company. The base sale price is $676.26 million, which is roughly Rs 5,765 crore at current exchange rates. This deal is notable because the sale value is much higher than Kiri Industries' current market capitalisation, which stands at about Rs 3,800 crore. As part of the agreement, Zhejiang Longsheng Group will acquire 26.23 lakh equity shares held by Kiri Industries in DyStar. In addition to the base amount, Kiri Industries may also receive an extra $20.29 million. This would be paid if there is any shortfall in the base amount or if the buyer needs to fulfil other responsibilities under the agreement. However, the final amount could still change depending on certain conditions, the company said in its regulatory filing. The deal is still subject to regulatory approvals and other closing formalities. Once completed, this sale could provide a major cash boost to Kiri Industries and help reshape its business direction. Meanwhile, shares of Kiri Industries dropped 9.43 per cent on Friday to Rs 658 on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). Kiri Industries Limited (KIL) is an Indian company engaged in the manufacturing and export of dyes, dye intermediates, and basic chemicals. As a fully integrated dyes and chemicals producer, KIL operates a wide range of facilities. The company is listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
