In Johor, e-hailing rider seriously injured after being hit, dragged 15m by bus at Pasir Gudang junction
KUALA LUMPUR, June 13 — Police are investigating a crash in Pasir Gudang, Johor, where an e-hailing rider was seriously injured after being hit and dragged about 15 metres by a bus at a traffic light intersection.
Seri Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred at around 6pm at the junction of Jalan Masai Kong Kong and Jalan Berlian 12, when the rider allegedly ran a red light, according to a report published in the New Straits Times yesterday.
The 20-year-old rider, who works part-time, was on a Honda EX5 motorcycle when he entered the junction and collided with a Hino bus driven by a 54-year-old man.
"The motorcyclist emerged from the left junction at Jalan Berlian 12 when the traffic light was red, entering the path of the oncoming bus,' said Mohd Sohaimi.
'The driver was unable to brake in time and collided with the victim, who was thrown onto the road and dragged approximately 15 metres.'
The rider sustained serious injuries and was rushed by ambulance to Sultan Ismail Hospital, where he remains unconscious and is being treated in the red zone.
The bus driver was unharmed in the crash, which is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
Mohd Sohaimi urged road users to obey traffic signals and be cautious at intersections to prevent such accidents.
Police are calling for witnesses or anyone with information about the incident to contact the Seri Alam District Police Headquarters at 07-3864222 to assist with the investigation.

'About eight suspects' are believed to be involved in the alleged kidnapping, with CCTV footage showing that two of them were wearing police vests at the time. On May 15, Rusdi said Ling's husband, Sarawakian businessman Hah Tiing Siu, was arrested to assist in an investigation, but did not disclose the nature of the investigation. MACC chief Azam Baki had previously said Ling was a witness in a money laundering investigation.

Lawyer urges police to release CCTV of Pamela Ling's abduction as probe hits wall
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — The lawyer representing Datin Pamela Ling, who was abducted more than two months ago, has urged police to make public the CCTV footage and images of her kidnappers in a bid to revive the stalled investigation. Lawyer N. Sivananthan expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress in the case, revealing that police had informed him last week they still had no leads. 'It's very frustrating, they have told me they have no leads whatsoever towards locating her or finding out what happened to her,' Sivananthan told Malaysiakini today. He said it was difficult to understand why police were still withholding footage and visuals of the abduction, which took place on April 9 near the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters in Putrajaya. 'At this stage, I don't understand why the police can't release the images to ask the public whether anyone can recognise them. 'What have they got to lose at this stage?' he added. Ling was in a Grab vehicle heading to meet anti-graft investigators when the car was intercepted by five other vehicles just as it neared the MACC premises. At a press conference on May 8, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed investigators had retrieved CCTV recordings of the incident. He said the footage suggested that at least eight individuals were involved in the abduction, including two men seen wearing police vests. Police believe the suspects were impersonating law enforcement personnel. A photofit of one of the suspects was also produced, but according to Rusdi, its low resolution rendered it of little use. Police had arrested Ling's husband Datuk Seri Thomas Hah Tiing Siu in connection with the case, but he was released the next day after the Putrajaya Magistrates' Court denied their request for a remand order. The Kuala Lumpur police have yet to respond to queries on whether they intend to release images of the suspects to the public.

Persistent stench leads to discovery of elderly woman's body in Ampang home
KUALA LUMPUR, June 14 — A foul smell that persisted for four days after residents returned from Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations led to the discovery of an elderly woman's body in a house in Ampang yesterday. According to Sinar Harian, neighbours traced the strong odour to a two-storey terraced house, where the body of the 76-year-old woman was found at 6.26pm. A neighbour, who wished to be known only as Along, 34, said the smell was first noticed on Monday, shortly after he returned to Kuala Lumpur from his hometown. 'My house and my father's are next to the victim's. I wasn't the only one who noticed the smell — other neighbours mentioned it too. 'They also said the woman's son hadn't been seen returning home. At first, we thought he might come back later. 'But after three days, the smell got stronger,' he reportedly told the national daily today. Along said he, his father, and several neighbours inspected the house and found the front gate unlocked. 'We tried to find the source of the smell, thinking it could be a dead rat. 'When we opened the house door — which was also unlocked — we found the elderly woman lying inside, covered with a cloth,' he said. He added that the woman usually lived with her youngest son and would sometimes ask neighbours for food while waiting for him to return. 'I called the police right after we found her,' he said. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail confirmed that a report was received at 6.30pm regarding the discovery. A post-mortem is scheduled to be carried out at Hospital Kuala Lumpur this evening to determine the cause of death.
