Pant is India's second highest-ranked batter in Test cricket. In 12 Test matches played so far against the English team, he has scored 781 runs.
The Indian men's cricket team, under the leadership of Shubman Gill, landed in England last week and has kicked off their preparations as well for the upcoming five-match Test series against England. In their first away assignment of the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, India will face England in five Tests. The series opener is scheduled to take place at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 to 24, and the next four matches are scheduled to take place at Birmingham (July 2-6), Lord's (July 10-14), Manchester (July 23-27) and The Oval (July 31-August 4).
Wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant will be a key player for India in the upcoming series, and the 27-year-old stumper has announced his arrival in England by hitting a big six that broke the roof of the stadium.
In a video going viral on the internet from India's net session in London, Pant can be seen hitting Washington Sundar for a maximum by going down on one knee, and the ball then broke the roof of the stadium upon landing.

Pant, who scored a century for Lucknow Super Giants in his last competitive match played at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 27, has been appointed as India's vice-captain for the Test series.
The left-handed batter has a good Test record in England. In nine Tests played so far on English soil, with the help of two centuries and two fifties, he has amassed a total of 556 runs.
Pant, who is India's second-highest-ranked batter in Test cricket, scored 146 and 57 runs in the last Test played on English soil (in Birmingham from July 1-5, 2022).
After the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from Test cricket, Pant will be one of India's senior-most batters in Test cricket, and he would like to bat with responsibility and make big runs against the Ben Stokes-led side to help India win a Test series against England in England for the first time since 2007.
India's squad for five-match Test series against England: Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (VC & WK), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav

India win INR 12.32 crore from ICC despite not qualifying for WTC final, almost same as last time champs Australia

Despite not qualifying for the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final, Team India will earn almost as much as the winners of the last two editions, New Zealand (2021) and Australia (2025). This was possible due to ICC's decision to pump up the WTC purse to $3.6 million. India, the runner-up of the last two editions, missed out on a hat-trick WTC final appearance at Lord's after finishing third in the WTC points table for the 2023-25 cycle. South Africa and Australia qualified for the final to be played on June 11 at Lord's after finishing No.1 and No.2 in the points table. Australia will be the first team to have a shot a defending the WTC title. They had beaten India in the final at the same venue two years ago to lay their hands on the maiden WTC title. The winners of the WTC Final, to be played between Australia and South Africa, will take home a purse of $ 3.6 million, more than double of what New Zealand (2021) and Australia (2023) earned after winning the previous two finals. The losing finalists, too, will earn more than the earlier top prize money, assured of more than $ 2.1 million this time. The winners of the previous two editions (New Zealand and Australia) won $1.6 million each, while the losing finalists (India) got $ 800,000. "The increase in prize money exhibits the ICC's efforts to prioritise Test cricket as it looks to build on the momentum of the first three cycles of the nine-team competition," the ICC said. This time, India will get $ 1,440,000, which is roughly around ₹12.32 crore, for finishing third. The third edition saw South Africa finish on a high with 2-0 home series wins over Sri Lanka and Pakistan, ending with 69.44 percentage points. Defending champions Australia finished with 67.54 points while India finished with 50.00 after leading the table for much of the time. A 0-3 defeat to New Zealand at home and a 3-1 loss in Australia hurt India's chances of advancing to their third consecutive WTC final. The winner of the WTC Final will receive three million six hundred thousand US dollars. The runners-up will be awarded two million one hundred sixty thousand US dollars. India, finishing third in the standings, will receive one million four hundred forty thousand US dollars. New Zealand will earn one million two hundred thousand US dollars. England will take home nine hundred sixty thousand US dollars. Sri Lanka will receive eight hundred forty thousand US dollars. Bangladesh is set to receive seven hundred twenty thousand US dollars. West Indies will be awarded six hundred thousand US dollars. Pakistan, finishing ninth, will receive four hundred eighty thousand US dollars.

Arshdeep back in Kent, focussing on red-ball rhythm ahead of England Test series

London, Jun 10 (PTI) India left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh is delighted to be back in Kent where he had earlier played county cricket as he looks to rediscover his red-ball rhythm ahead of the five-match Test series against England beginning June 20. The 26-year-old is eyeing his maiden Test appearance after being named in the Indian squad. The team is playing a four-day tour match against India A at the Kent County Cricket Ground at Beckenham from June 13. Primarily known for his white-ball exploits, Arshdeep, who represented Kent in the County Championship two years ago, had a notable season in the IPL 2025 with Punjab Kings, who finished runners-up. "As for today's training session, my only motivation was to get a feel for the rhythm -- how the body feels, how the red ball is coming out of the hand -- because all the players have been playing with the white ball for quite a while. So I really enjoyed it," he told "Going forward, as we keep progressing step by step, the intensity will keep increasing, and we'll keep making it more and more difficult for the batters to face the ball." India, without the services of retired Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, will be led by new skipper Shubman Gill. The team includes a crop of young batters such as Sai Sudharsan and Yashasvi Jaiswal. Arshdeep said he is enjoying bowling to his team-mates as he sharpens his red-ball skills. "It was fun bowling to the batters. They looked quite compact, and there was a competitive spirit—even though we were just working on rhythm, they were fully competing. So that made it even more fun," he said. "We had to grind properly and try to get them out with a solid plan. Sai has joined the team for the first time, and he looked very compact too. The skipper looked in good touch. I'll try my best to keep improving and get them out more often going ahead." 'When your attack includes Bumrah, comparison doesn't exist' ===================================== Arshdeep said he is focused on enhancing his skills while training alongside pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah. "Whenever I hold the ball, I always feel that I am the best. But everyone knows—when you're in an attack that includes a player named Jasprit Bumrah, then the word 'comparison' doesn't even exist," he said. "So, the focus is on how we can improve each other's game, each other's skill sets—and how we can help the team. That's where my focus lies." Reflecting on his earlier stint in Kent, Arshdeep said: "It feels really good to be here. At first, you get that 'homely' feeling, that yes, I've spent two months here before, so it feels great. I'm really looking forward to creating many more memories here. "It's a small place, very peaceful. Not many people around. If you need peace of mind, this is the best place—because there's always a cool breeze blowing, a soft warmth from the sun, and when you sip hot chocolate in that setting, it's pure bliss. "And if you have a sweet tooth, make sure to have some churros with it," said Arshdeep. The opening Test begins in Leeds on June 20.

India set to take on Hong Kong in AFC Asian Cup qualifier clash

Kowloon (Hong Kong), June 9 (UNI) India will take on Hong Kong, China on Matchday 2 in Group C of the AFC Asian Cup Saudi Arabia 2027 Qualifiers Final Round on Tuesday, at the Kai Tak Stadium here at 17:30 IST. The Group C table is still a clean slate with all four teams level on a point apiece after both games on Matchday 1 on March 25 ended goalless. India and Bangladesh drew in Shillong, while Hong Kong also got a point away to Singapore. Only the group winners will qualify for the Asian Cup in 2027. India, who made it to two successive Asian Cups for the first time in 2023, are aiming to extend the historic streak. Hong Kong also qualified for the previous tournament, but with only one available berth, either side is bound to miss out. India head coach Manolo Marquez exuded confidence on the eve of the Blue Tigers' clash against Hong Kong. 'Our preparations have been much better this time, if we compare with the previous FIFA windows, where you practically don't have too much time. We had about three weeks to prepare, between Kolkata, Bangkok, and here in Hong Kong. And we are ready to perform. Nothing special,' said Marquez. 'The environment in the team is quite good as well. Obviously, in all teams across the world, the environment is better when you are winning games constantly. But the environment, the relationship between the players, regardless of the results, is very good,' he said. India centre-back Konsham Chinglensana Singh echoed the coach's words. 'We are well prepared for the game after three weeks in the camp. Mentally, and physically, we have prepared well, and are ready for the game,' he said. The Blue Tigers have not had the rub of the green in recent times. Out of the three matches they have played in 2025 so far, they have won one, drawn one, and lost their last match against Thailand last week. Márquez, however, is not too worried about the 0-2 defeat against Thailand. 'In my opinion, most coaches are not worried about the scores in the friendly games. We are focussing on the important match (Hong Kong),' he said. 'I know everyone speaks about the score (against Thailand). But if we scored from the chances we created, it would have been different. This is football.' In what will be the inaugural football match at the newly built 50,000-capacity Kai Tak Stadium, the tickets, reportedly, have sold out, and a full house can be expected on Tuesday. The stadium features a retractable roof, which will be kept closed during the match. On Monday, the Blue Tigers had an official training session at the venue to get a feel of the conditions. 'We will try to enjoy the situation in this stadium. I don't know if it will be completely full, but a lot of people will be there. It will be a nice event, but obviously, we are focusing on winning the game,' said Marquez. Hong Kong, China's head coach, Ashley Westwood, is no stranger to Indian football, having coached clubs like Bengaluru FC, ATK, and Punjab FC in India before taking up international coaching roles, first in Afghanistan, followed by Hong Kong. Westwood spoke highly of the development that Indian football has seen over the years. 'I went to India in 2013, and the country is a million miles away from where it was back then. I know their coach, I watched the ISL. He's a good coach, and he's been doing good things with FC Goa. He coaches right, he prepares right, and his players are always fit. 'The spirit's good in the squad, and everybody gets on with each other. We're looking forward to it,' he said. Hong Kong midfielder Ngan Cheuk Pan stressed on the importance for his teammates and him to focus on their own game, for the clash against India. 'We're following the tactics set by the coach and focusing on what we can do to improve our own performance. We want to be able to play our own game,' he said. India and Hong Kong, China have crossed swords 24 times. The Blue Tigers have won nine of these matches, while the hosts for Tuesday's game have won eight; seven matches have ended in draws. The match will be streamed live on FanCode. UNI BM
