Bengal news: Woman held captive for months, brutally assaulted by mother-son duo for refusing to act in porn film
A shocking incident came to light in the Howrah district of West Bengal where a 23-year-old woman was allegedly forcibly detained for months and brutally tortured by a man and his mother. The victim, a resident of Sodepur in North 24 Parganas district, had come in contact with the man from Howrah's Domjur area through Facebook five months back. He had promised her a job if she came to his residence. As she visited his Domjur residence to discuss the job, the man, along with his mother, allegedly assaulted her after failing to lure her into the profession of a bar dancer and forced her to do domestic chores, according to a police complaint filed by the woman's parents at Khardah police station. It is also alleged that they also forced her to act in a pornographic film. A few days ago, the woman managed to escape from the flat, where she was held captive, and returned home with bruises all over her body. The victim was admitted to Sagar Dutta Medical College and Hospital in Kamarhati. Following the FIR, the Khardah police forwarded the FIR to their Domjur counterparts. A team of police personnel visited the apartment of the accused. But both mother and son were found to have fled from there. A manhunt has been launched to nab them and further investigation is underway. Based on initial findings, the accused mother-son duo has likely fled abroad, possibly to Thailand, said the police. A senior police officer claimed that the woman had made multiple cash withdrawals from her bank account, which authorities believe may have been used to finance their escape plan, according to news agency PTI. "The accused woman had visited the bank several times and withdrew money. It seems the funds were used to facilitate their plan to abscond. We suspect the woman and her son have escaped to Bangkok," the officer said. The accused woman, along with her son, was running a film production house where "soft pornographic reels" were made, said the PTI report citing police sources. Investigators are also probing allegations that they were running a sex racket from the same premises. The victim has also claimed that her mobile phone was taken away by the accused.

Himachal vegetable seller arrested for sedition after he shares ‘anti-national post' on Indian Army's strikes in Pakistan
The Himachal Pradesh Police arrested a vegetable seller in Paonta Sahib, Sirmaur district Sunday on charges of sedition for allegedly posting anti-national content on his Facebook account following the air strikes in Pakistan. A case has been registered against Suleman Khan, 45, a native of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, under section 152 (sedition) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Paonta Sahib police station. On Monday, Khan was sent to four days' police custody. The police said he has been residing in Ward Badripur, Paonta Sahib, for the last 15 years. According to officers, Khan's antecedents are being verified, and his mobile phone has been seized for forensic examination. Manvinder Thakur, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Paonta Sahib, said, 'A delegation of local residents filed a police complaint against Suleman Khan. The delegation submitted a printout of one of the posts shared by the accused, in which he criticised the Indian military action against Pakistan following the Pulwama terrorist attack. We found that the post had been deleted a few days ago. In the deleted post, the suspect had also praised Pakistan. The matter is under investigation.' According to the First Information Report (FIR), 'Khan indulged in anti-national activities by criticising India's military response to Pakistan following the Pulwama terrorist attack. He also made derogatory remarks against the Prime Minister of India and posted the slogan 'Pakistan Zindabad' on his Facebook account.' Members of the delegation that lodged the complaint include Abhishek Verma, Amarjeet Singh, Kapil Sharma, and Vinod Kaushik. In the last week of May, the Himachal Pradesh Police arrested a 21-year-old man from Kangra for allegedly keeping 'sensitive and objectionable material' on his phone, and being in touch with individuals in Pakistan through online platforms. After the arrest, Mayank Chaudhary, Superintendent of Police (SP) Dehra, told The Indian Express, 'Indeed, sensitive and objectionable material was found on the suspect's mobile phone, which could endanger the sovereignty of the country. 100-foot giant alligator ‘detained' by North Carolina cops for ‘suspicion of being a dinosaur without proper papers'
A giant alligator weighing nearly 400 pounds and 10 feet in length created a buzz in Onslow County, North Carolina, when it was spotted relaxing close to traffic. The reptile, later named 'Pepe the Gator,' was found lounging along Old 30 Road on May 28, Komonews reported. Deputies from the Onslow County Sheriff's Office and officers from the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission quickly responded to the call and rescued the reptile. In a now-viral Facebook post, the Sheriff's Office shared a light-hearted post on the encounter, referring to the alligator as a 'prehistoric perp.' The post read, 'On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, deputies in Onslow County and officers with NC Wildlife Resources Commission wrangled this prehistoric perp off the pavement today after he was caught loitering near the double yellow line on Old 30 Road. Witnesses say he was just chilling and snapping, clearly ignoring the 'no loitering or lounging on roadways' sign.' The department also jokingly listed a few mock charges against the alligator, 'Pepe the Gator, 350–400 lbs, and almost 10 feet in length, has been cited for Suspicion of Being a Dinosaur Without Proper Papers, Public Loitering with Intent to Sunbathe, and Obstructing Traffic. Deputies reported no injuries, unless you count his pride when the gator refused to be cuffed. We're told the gator has been safely relocated — and no, he didn't get to ride shotgun.' The viral Facebook post shows several photos featuring the rescuers posing beside the alligator. See here: According to a report by PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office confirmed that Pepe was safely relocated to Camp Geiger, a Marine Corps base in nearby Jacksonville, North Carolina. Officials estimate the gator had wandered approximately three to five miles from its nearest water source before deciding to take a break on the roadside.
