State government reaches out to 5,000 private organisations about PPP model for ITIs
MUMBAI: The state skill education department has penned a letter to over 5,000 companies, organisations, professionals, and entrepreneurs informing them about the public-private-partnerships (PPP) in developing Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) across the state. Skill, employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha on Wednesday announced the decision in the Mantralaya. The government resolution (GR) regarding this policy will be announced on June 6, the coronation day of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
To promote this policy, the minister will visit Nashik, Solapur, Nagpur, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar within the next week.
'The necessary improvements have not been made in ITIs for the last many years. There is a need to make these institutions more employment-oriented to restore their former glory,' Lodha said. 'Various industrial institutions across the state need skilled manpower.' He further explained that the industrial groups who 'invest' in running these institutions will get skilled manpower for their industries in return.
Lodha also said he is discussing with all the stakeholders to ensure no errors in the decision. A letter with details about the policy and expected cooperation from private players has been sent out to 5,000 small and large industrial groups, institutions, and boards of directors across the state.
The PPP will last for 10 and 20 years -- the concerned industrial group must invest at least ₹10 crore for a 10-year commitment and ₹20 crore for a 20-year one. 50% of this money will be spent on infrastructure and modern machinery. The rest will be spent on human resources.
Currently, the government is paying the salaries of teachers in the ITIs. The participating industrial groups can appoint more skilled teachers if necessary. However, they will receive the same remuneration as the other teachers and any extra compensation will have to be covered by the private group.
The industrial groups can implement the curriculum they want with the government's approval.
Lessons from the 'Adopted School' scheme
In 2022, the then school education minister Deepak Kesarkar announced the adopted school scheme to revive school infrastructure using corporate social responsibility and non-governmental Organisations. The scheme was widely opposed by the teachers, parents, and students as it allowed the private players to rename the school and conduct non-school activities on premises.
Referring to it, Lodha said, 'Taking lessons from that we made certain changes in the scheme. Although the ITIs and the land belong to the government in this policy, we will give (the private players) the authority to design the curriculum and appoint teachers to the industries.'
He further said students will be admitted through the common admission process.

Medikabazaar, the medical equipment supplier, expects to put the controversies surrounding the startup behind it as it targets profitability this year, CEO Dinesh Lodha told Mint in an exclusive interview. The startup, which is entangled in legal disputes, has started exports and is expanding its portfolio offerings to drive growth. Lodha, who was appointed group CEO in August 2024, said the business is turning around and that will help rebuild confidence among its investors and customers. 'This is the third quarter going on, [since] I joined, and in the last two quarters there are significant changes happening in the business. We have cut down our loss by 80% by quarter four from quarter one," he told Mint. 'In Q4 we ended up at a revenue run rate of ₹2,200 crore, with some losses. Next year, we're looking at a run rate of ₹3,200 crore by Q4FY26, with Ebitda profitability. For the first time the company will show a solid profitability and a good cash flow." Lodha said his mandate is to run the business and that the dispute between investors is not a distraction. 'The team is very focused. And my approach is also very focused," said Lodha. 'The way things are getting turned around, I think people are getting more and more confident. We are not losing customers because of this." The company has also started its own brand called MB+ for medical consumables, pharmaceuticals, and vaccines that it will directly offer to customers, which is a high-margin business and will form a significant chunk of the company's revenue, said Lodha. It is targeting tier-2 and tier-3 hospitals and aims to offer complete supply chain and procurement solutions to at least 100-150 hospitals in the next 12-14 months. 'In India, nobody has the portfolio breadth that we have with presence in equipment and devices, consumables, disposables, IVD (in vitro diagnostics) and pharma," said Lodha. 'We offer a one-stop solution in all procurement segments… that's a very big opportunity for hospitals to really work with one company as a single-window procurement partner rather than working with, say, 200 distributors." Shivaji Maharaj coronation day to be marked with lecture series at ITIs across Maharashtra

Addressing a press conference at the Mantralaya, the Skill, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Minister said, 'This initiative is based on the theme of 'rashtrahit' (national interest) and will be conducted under the department's Panch Parivartan (five-fold transformation) mission. Topics such as family awareness, social harmony, environmental conservation, civic duties and indigenous thinking will be covered in the lectures.' Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of Maratha empire, was crowned as king on the Raigad fort on June 6, 1674. Lodha also announced that six new advanced courses will be introduced in ITIs from the upcoming academic year. 'These are artificial intelligence (AI), industrial robotics, drone technology, 3D printing, electric vehicle technology and solar energy systems. These courses aim to provide students with global-standard training in emerging technologies,' he said. The department's new Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model has received a positive response from industry players. With over 1.2 lakh students enrolled in ITIs across the state, the new initiatives are expected to improve job prospects and bridge the gap between skills and industry requirements, Lodha said. Delhi CM honours CBSE top performers, reiterates reforms
Chief minister Rekha Gupta on Friday congratulated the students of classes 10 and 12 who performed well in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations this year. The honorary event was held at Rajkiya Pratibha Bal Vikas Vidyalaya in north Delhi's Civil Lines. Delhi's education minister Ashish Sood was also present at the event, where CM Gupta felicitated 87 students — 16 from class 10 and 71 from class 12 — with tablets. The results were declared earlier this month. Additionally, principals of 20 government schools, whose institutions recorded 100% results in the CBSE examinations, were also honoured and awarded computers, an official said. 'Students have achieved this milestone through dedication, discipline, and relentless effort. Today, you are not only making your parents and school proud but are also bringing honour to the entire nation. The Delhi government is proud of all of you,' the CM said while addressing the students. She also assured educational reforms aiming to equip every government school with smart classrooms, hygienic toilets, digital libraries, and well-trained teachers. 'The Delhi government signed three-year MoUs with four prominent industry partners — Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL), Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt Ltd (SMIPL), Quest Alliance, and Hettich Power Wood Working Institute (HPWWI),' the official said. The CM stated that the primary objective of these MoUs is not only to ensure technical education but also maintain vocational excellence, hands-on training with modern industrial equipment, and robust employment opportunities. Providing details on the same, the CM said that students in various ITIs across Delhi will now receive direct, advanced, and practical training aligned with industry standards. HPWWI will offer free technical training under the Wood Working Technician Trade (formerly Carpenter Trade) at ITIs in Jail Road and Nand Nagri. This will include tools, equipment, specialized instructor training, and on-the-job experience. Similarly, SMIPL will establish a state-of-the-art training centre at ITI Jahangirpuri for trades such as two-wheeler repair, welding, and robotics, while also developing necessary infrastructure under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Quest Alliance will provide training in career awareness, employability skills, and soft skills, with a special focus on encouraging female students to take up non-traditional trades like welding and fitting. Meanwhile, MSIL will deliver specialized training in automobile-related trades such as four-wheelers, diesel engines, and auto body repair at ITIs in Pusa and Arab Ki Sarai, offering students access to advanced technical knowledge and real-world industry projects. Sood also highlighted key features of the MoUs, stating that all training programs under this initiative will be completely free of cost. 'Upon course completion, students will receive recognised certificates that validate their skills. The core objective is to prepare youth for employment, make them self-reliant, and equip them with modern technologies to successfully thrive in a dynamic industrial environment,' Sood said.
