China's foreign ministry on Thursday vowed to "resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of its overseas students" after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a six-month ban on foreign students enrolling at Harvard University.
"China has always opposed the politicization of educational cooperation," ministry spokesman Lin Jian said. "The relevant actions by the U.S. side will only harm America's image and international credibility."

EU chief backs ICC after US sanctions judges over Netanyahu warrant
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has reiterated European backing for the International Criminal Court, after the US slapped sanctions on four judges it accuses of 'illegitimate and baseless actions' against Washington and its allies, including Israel. 'The Commission fully supports the [ICC and] its officials. The ICC holds perpetrators of the world's gravest crimes to account [and] gives victims a voice,' the European Commission chief posted on X. 'It must be free to act without pressure. We will always stand for global justice [and] the respect of international law.' On Thursday, the Trump administration followed through on a threat to sanction officials associated with the court, issuing sanctions against four judges. Two of the judges, Reine Alapini-Gansou of Benin and Beti Hohler of Slovenia, were sanctioned for their role in the ICC issuing arrest warrants for Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in November, according to the US State Department.

Alan Dershowitz Urges President Trump to Pardon Ghislaine Maxwell
NEW YORK — Former lawyer for Jeffrey Epstein and President Donald Trump, Alan Dershowitz, has publicly urged President Trump to grant a pardon to Ghislaine Maxwell, the British socialite currently facing charges related to Epstein's criminal activities, according to the Daily Mail. Dershowitz, who has represented high-profile clients and was previously involved in Epstein's legal matters, argues that Maxwell deserves clemency and that a presidential pardon could be justified. This plea has sparked significant public and media debate given the high-profile nature of the case. Maxwell is accused of aiding Epstein in the alleged trafficking and abuse of minors. The legal proceedings against her have drawn international attention, making any discussion about a pardon highly controversial. The Trump administration has not yet commented on Dershowitz's request, and it remains unclear whether the president will consider such a pardon.
