India is poised to become the "data capital of the world" in the coming years, said Union Minister of Communications,

A major factor underpinning this growth is the drastic reduction in communication costs. The Minister noted that the price of one GB of data has fallen from 287 rupees just 11 years ago to just 9 rupees today, representing a 97% reduction in costs of communication.
Comparing this internationally, Scindia said that India's data cost of 11 cents per GB is only 5% of the world average of $2.5 per GB.
"India, I believe in the next five years will become the data capital of the world in the time to come," Scindia said, speaking at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Annual Business Summit 2025 on Friday.
Scindia said that India is now globally recognized as a digital-first economy, a shift largely led by the advancements in its telecom sector over the last decade. He cited significant growth in connectivity, with mobile subscribers increasing from around 800 million to 1.2 billion, making India the second-largest mobile market globally.
Internet users have risen sharply from approximately 250 million to 974 million, while broadband users have jumped from a mere 66 million to nearly 940 million, he said.
The Minister also pointed to India's progress in achieving self-reliance in technology, mentioning the successful development of an indigenous 4G telecom stack. This makes India the fifth country globally with this capability.
The indigenous technology is currently being deployed on
BSNL
's network, with close to 94,000 towers already installed out of a planned 100,000. He also noted that BSNL has posted a record net profit for the second consecutive quarter after 18 years.

ADB support for Viksit Bharat 2047
New Delhi: Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Masato Kanda has committed up to USD 10 billion for India's urban transformation, including metro extensions, new regional rapid transit system (RRTS) corridors, and urban infrastructure and services. This is a five-year initiative, ADB said in a statement on Sunday. While sharing the pictures of his meeting with the ADB President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he and the ADB president shared a perspective on a wide range of issues, including India's rapid transformation over the past decade, which saw the empowerment and upliftment of countless people. "India's rapid transformation over the last decade has empowered countless people and we are working to add further momentum in this journey!" Modi wrote. Masato Kando, who arrived in India last week, marking his official state visit after becoming the ADB President, said, "By scaling up public and private sector finance, deepening knowledge collaboration, and mobilising capital, we stand ready to support India's drive to become a developed nation by 2047 and to deliver inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth for its 1.4 billion people.' ADB has reportedly collaborated with over 110 cities across 22 states on projects related to water supply, sanitation, housing, and solid waste management, with an active urban portfolio comprising 27 loans amounting to $5.15 billion. Earlier, the ADB president also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, where the two discussed plans to bring rural prosperity, scaling rooftop solar capacities and operationalising the UCF. He also met Urban Development Minister Manohar Lal Khattar to outline the next steps for channelling private capital into urban projects.

Paris [France], June 1 (ANI): Highlighting growing global confidence in India's economic prospects, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal on Sunday said there is strong enthusiasm in Europe to enter into a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with India. Speaking to ANI during his ongoing visit to Paris, France, Goyal noted that India's rising reputation has made nations increasingly eager to deepen trade and diplomatic ties. He also noted the positive momentum following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in New Delhi earlier this year. 'There is no time limit for these discussions, but the European Union President, Ursula von der Leyen and Prime Minister Modi had a meeting in New Delhi in February. It was decided that we should conclude a good Free Trade Agreement by the end of this year. Considering the relations that I have built with my counterpart, the European Union Trade Commissioner, Maros Sefcovic, I feel that we will progress very fast and take it forward soon. There is enthusiasm in Europe to enter into a Free Trade Agreement with India, and from the feedback we get from the industry in India, it seems India will also benefit from this,' Goyal said, adding that when both will benefit, it is natural that it is our responsibility to do it quickly.
