Graz: At least nine killed in shooting at Austrian school - city's mayor Elke Kahr says
At least nine people have been killed and others injured in a shooting attack on a school in the Austrian city of Graz, the city's mayor has said.
Seven students and one adult were among the dead in Tuesday morning's attack, and the shooter was among them, Graz Mayor Elke Kahr told the Austrian Press Agency (APA).
Kronen Zeitung newspaper said a suspect had reportedly been found dead in a bathroom, but that could not immediately be confirmed.
Austria's Interior Ministry said there were several fatalities but did not say how many, while police said there were also injuries, without specifying a number.
Earlier APA, quoting Mayor Kahr, also said the shooter was among the dead.
Special forces were among those sent to the BORG Dreierschützengasse high school at 10am local time after reports of shots being heard.
At 11.30 am, police said on X that the school had been evacuated and everyone had been taken to a safe meeting point.
The situation was "secured", they said and there was no longer believed to be any danger.
National broadcaster ORF said several people had been seriously injured, including students and teachers, after what it called a "shooting spree" in the city in southeastern Austria.
Police said several emergency services, a police helicopter and Cobra, a police tactical unit, have been deployed and they told parents to go to the ASKO Stadium, the home ground of local football club, ESK Graz, to meet their children.
Pictures showed armed officers at the scene.
Graz is Austria's second-largest city, and has a population of around 300,000.

Graz school shooting survivors not in life-threatening condition, hospitals say
BELGRADE, Serbia and LONDON -- Eleven people injured in a school shooting in Graz, Austria, on Tuesday are still being treated but are not in life-threatening condition, officials at the three hospitals treating the patients told ABC News. Ten people were killed in the shooting at a high school in Austria's second-largest city on Tuesday, with the shooter also dying by suicide in a bathroom during the incident, according to local officials. Twelve people were initially injured, one of whom died in hospital on Tuesday. Austrians observed a nationwide minute of silence on Wednesday morning to mourn the victims. The suspect, a 21-year-old Austrian citizen and former student of the school who never graduated, acted alone, authorities said. The shooter used a long gun and a handgun which were found at the scene and are now being investigated, a Styria police spokesperson said. The suspect -- who was not employed at the time of the shooting -- legally owned the two weapons used in the attack, officials said. Police had no prior records on the suspect, a spokesperson said, and there was no prior warning. Officials searching the premises where the suspect lived found a farewell letter, but police have not offered a motive for the attack.
