German tennis star Alexander Zverev hopes his grand slam luck has changed after his plane heading to the French Open was struck by lightning.
He was dumped out of his home Hamburg Open this week in the last 16 amid a stomach virus and more drama followed as he tried to reach Paris for the clay grand slam, which starts on Sunday.

"After take-off, there was a lightning strike on the plane and we had to return to Hamburg and make an emergency landing," Zverev told reporters.
"It seemed pretty funny because there was only a little noise, no real shaking or anything. It was the first time I'd been struck by lightning in the air."
Zverev arrived in Paris late and on a different plane, but does not play his first-round match against the American Learner Tien until Tuesday.
"It's not an injury, but a stomach virus. It will go away, then I'll feel OK again. I hope to be 100% fit," he added.

Zverev has yet to win a grand slam singles title and lost last year's French Open final in five sets to Carlos Alcaraz. His clay form this season has been mixed.
"The first matches will be important for me, that's for sure," added the world number three.

As Bayern Munich gets closer with Jonathan Tah, FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are looking to strike
According to a report from Mundo Deportivo (as captured by Football Espana), Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah is getting interest from both FC Barcelona and Real Madrid as he — allegedly — is nearing a deal with Bayern Munich: Barcelona are hoping to make at least a couple of signings this summer, and the first of those to arrive could be Jonathan Tah. The soon-to-be free agent defender has still to decide his future, but at this stage, it appears that his desire is to be reunited with Hansi Flick in the capital of Catalonia. seems to run contrary to the recent reports we have seen emanating from Germany (like here, here, and here), but let's continue: As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Tah is still prioritising a move to Barcelona. At this stage, he has yet to make a decision on his future as he is awaiting a definitive decision from the newly-crowned La Liga champions. Flick is the reason that Tah is waiting for Barcelona. The pair worked together when the 60-year-old was head coach of the German national team, and he is also personally pushing for the Catalans to move for the Bayer Leverkusen defender. For these reasons, Tah is willing to wait a little longer before confirming his future plans. Advertisement Interestingly, FC Barcelona is not the only club from LaLiga eyeing Tah. Real Madrid is also in the mix: Real Madrid are also said to have an interest in Tah, whose current manager Xabi Alonso will be taking the reins at the Santiago Bernabeu from this summer onwards. A move to the Spanish capital is a possibility for the Germany international, but for now, it is more likely that he goes to Barcelona or Bayern Munich. There are some complexities for Tah, though, when it comes to FC Barcelona per Mundo Deportivo's Roger Torelló (via @iMiaSanMia): While Jonathan Tah's move to FC Bayern is considered a matter of time in Germany, sources close to the player have insisted that he hasn't made a decision yet. Tah, who had a verbal agreement with Barcelona but couldn't finalize the move due to Barça's FFP issues, is willing to wait a bit longer for them. Hansi Flick is the main supporter of the move, but Tah is also aware that the coach cannot guarantee his registration, as it is beyond his scope of responsibilities. Even so, Tah is willing to wait a little longer and is keeping Bayern on hold. Barça consider the signing to be complicated, but Hansi Flick is insisting. Bayern Munich still feels like the leader to land Tah, but FC Barcelona and Real Madrid are just the kind of clubs who could at least cause a player to have a wandering eye. French Open: Aryna Sabalenka Says Title Would Mean The World To Her
PARIS, FRANCE - JUNE 05: Aryna Sabalenka gives an on-court interview after her victory over Iga ... More Swiatek of Poland in the Women's Singles Semi Final match on Day Twelve of the 2025 French Open at Roland Garros on June 05, 2025 in Paris, France. (Photo by) World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka said winning the French Open title would 'mean the world' to her and her team after the Belarusian downed Iga Swiatek to reach her first final on the Parisian clay. Sabalenka is known as a hardcourt specialist, having won three Grand Slam titles on this surface – Australian Open (2023, 2024) and U.S. Open (2024). But the 27-year-old proved on Thursday that she can put up a challenge on clay after defeating claycourt queen Swiatek 7-6(1) 4-6 6-0 in the semifinals, ending the Pole's reign in the French capital, where she has won four titles. "I'm super happy with the win today and beating Iga at Roland Garros," Sabalenka said after her win. "It's just something unbelievable and something I'm super proud of, and yeah, just happy to get through this difficult match." Sabalenka needed two hours and 19 minutes to snap four-time champion Swiatek's 26-match winning streak at the event. Her victory over Swiatek was her tour-leading 40th main-draw win of this season, and she has won her last five Grand Slam semifinal matches. In Saturday's final, Sabalenka will face second-ranked Coco Gauff of the United States, as the World No. 1 and 2 players face off in a French Open final for the first time in more than a decade. Sabalenka and Gauff have a totally deadlocked head-to-head. They are 5-5 overall and 1-1 at Grand Slam events. Top-ranked Sabalenka knows she would need to play her best tennis and work for the title in Saturday's blockbuster clash. "It's going to mean everything to me and my team,' Sabalenka said when asked about the prospect of winning her maiden French Open title. 'Because I have to say that almost like the whole life I've been told where [clay] is not my thing and then I didn't have any confidence. "And in the past I don't know how many years, we've been able to develop my game so much, so I feel really comfortable on this surface and actually enjoy playing on clay. If I'll be able to get this trophy, it's just going to mean the world for us,' Aryna Sabalenka concluded.
