South Carolina man shot dead while entering booby-trapped home: Police
A man died after entering a booby-trapped residence in South Carolina on Monday evening, according to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies received notice of a reported shooting in Saint Matthews, South Carolina, and discovered 34-year-old Jordan Dove suffering "from an apparent gunshot wound," the sheriff's office said in a statement on Tuesday.
Dove, who was from Lugoff, South Carolina, is believed to have been shot while checking on a vacant house that belonged to a family member, police said.

"Upon getting to the scene, it was determined very quickly that the discharge of the firearm came from inside the residence," police said.
After inspecting the home, officials said they believe the residence had been booby-trapped. Deputies encountered a "shotgun that was rigged at the back door to go off once anyone attempted to gain entry." The shotgun was dismantled from the trap while investigators examined the scene, police said.
A perimeter was also set around the residence and the front door was barricaded shut with no other occupants inside the home, police said.
Calhoun County Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to the hospital, but Dove "succumbed to his injury," police said.
Sheriff Thomas Summers said the booby-trapped home appeared to be "targeted towards law enforcement."
"It is yet another example of the dangers faced by law enforcement everyday," Summers said in a statement.

Police said charges will be "forthcoming" against Alfonzo Brown, the homeowner, who is currently in prison out of state.
This is an isolated incident and not a threat to the public at this time, according to officials.
Police said the investigation is "very active" and anyone that may have information regarding the incident should contact the sheriff's office investigators at 803-874-2741.

MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KREX) – A man, who was sentenced for murder following a dispute on Super Bowl Sunday in 2020, had his appeal denied by the Colorado Court of Appeals. Christopher Rizo was convicted to life in prison without parole for killing Thomas Huddleston outside Roosters Tavern on Feb. 2, 2020. At the same time, Thomas returned to his truck to get his gun. Rizo yelled at Thomas to get out of the vehicle before Bill swung at him. Rizo shot Bill twice in the leg who then dropped to the knees. Bill heard a series of gunshots and saw Thomas fall to the ground, according to court documents. Rizo picked up Thomas' gun and fled the area. Thomas was declared dead at the scene; he was shot 12 times. A tourniquet was placed on Bill's leg, and he was sent to the hospital. Rizo contested his sentencing saying he was acting in self-defense, and he was not given due process, a fair trial or an impartial jury. In the appeal, Rizo, who did not testify in the original trial, argued the court failed to instruct the jury regarding self-defense or multiple assailants and it should not have admitted his behavior in the bar before the shooting as evidence. Because of this it led to cumulative error, Rizo contended The appeals court didn't find any such issues. It said the jury was instructed to use the model self-defense instruction. Rizo's conduct is also admissible evidence because it happened 'contemporaneously' with the shooting, court documents read. 'Specifically, Rizo's conduct provided relevant evidence of his motive for reappearing at the bar more than two hours after he was kicked out and of his mental state as he approached Thomas and Bill,' according to court documents. The appeals court also said it did not find any errors in the trial meaning no cumulative error occurred. Rizo also contended his life sentence without parole was unconstitutional as it's a cruel and unusual punishment. But the appeals court said it was not persuaded by his argument. Deputies: Man arrested after pointing gun on highway
MARSHALL TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A 24-year-old man was arrested on Wednesday afternoon after pointing a gun at a 31-year-old man on a highway near Marshall, according to deputies. The Calhoun County Sheriff's Office says that it was dispatched to I-94 heading eastbound at around 2 p.m. The 31–year-old man, from Norton Shores, said that a man in a Chevrolet Cruze pointed a gun at him on the highway as he tried going past him, according to CCSO. Deputies say that the 24-year-old was located and stopped after getting off the highway and onto Old U.S. 27. A gun was found that matched the description officials had been given. The 24-year-old was supposedly preventing the 31-year-old from passing him on the road, according to CCSO. The man was taken into custody at the Calhoun County Jail on charges of felonious assault and carrying a concealed weapon. Deputies say there were no injuries reported.
